Quitting slots

I am interested in peoples opinions on quitting slots. In particular, has anyone reached a point where they became disillusioned with the fairness of slots, or simply got fed up of losing money (in the sense that the price of the "entertainment" was too high) or found particular casinos payout ratios to be too low. Or simply like myself recently have found that you have such a long persistent losing streak that you simply tire of losing and self exclude from a particular casino?

I found myself earlier this evening self-excluding from a number of casinos after an unprecedented losing streak. In the context of my lifelong losses this was not a big deal (about 2K (pound sterling) over 2 weeks) but the nature of it (constant losses and small wins) was such that I decided to call it a day with about 6 casinos.

The mathematician inside me tells me that this is the nature of the beast but I found the limit of my patience here. I am genuinely interested in the stories/opinions of others who have had similar episodes and how they felt about such things. Do you carry on and wait for the turnaround, or do you reach a point where the cost of the losses outweigh the entertainment aspect of gaming??

I'm surprised, as a mathematics man, that you're asking these questions.

If you're familiar with things like variance, RTP, TRTP and the Law of Large Numbers, then you can pretty much answer any question about any game of chance.

Everyone looks at it differently, but its just about always emotional and sometimes delusional...the underlying maths doesn't change.

How do you feel after you lose? If you are in a pissy mood and feel disgusted it is no longer entertainment.

I really feel I get a lot more from B&M casinos and that is where I do the majority of my playing. When I hear about people playing thousands per week on-line I always think how it would be if they played at an actual land based casino with that money. Free rooms, spa treatments, free food, shows, nightlife.

Sure, there are people who can't get out regularly for health reasons or no casinos nearby and for them, on-line casinos are great for all their play.

If you play $1000 a week on-line try not playing for a month and go to a nice land based casino with $4000 and live it up for a over-nighter if you can.

I'm not playing the slots for the rest of the month. I think everyone needs an occasional break as playing the slots can be quite habit forming.

The reason I'm not playing is as you said "constant losses and small wins" lately I've busted out at various casinos without so much as fifteen minutes play time and I've had to redeposit (which I hate doing) only to bust under ten minutes. The slots are fun but have the ability to get frustrating when that sort of thing continues happening.

I'm a heavy gamer with all the consoles etc. I was on the bus the other day playing on my Nintendo 3DS (chipped with about 300 games) and discovered that I have Monopoly on there (one of my all time favs) so I've ditched the slots and instead have been playing on my 3DS.

Yes indeed the mathematics is pretty transparent, but the psychology of gambling also interests me a great deal. Everyone will have different limits to their patience and I was really just seeing how many other people have found that a particular game or just gambling in general (I am not asking people to name the game or casino - I am not trying to s*itstir) broke their patience or made them lose their enthusiasm for the casino like I did yesterday. I know that I will come back after a while and play again but I wondered how many people often take a break from it after a really bad run.

I have quit on several occasions.

A few years back I unknowingly excluded myself from nearly all MGS casinos after asking for an exclusion at just one,I ended up on some sort of blacklist for 6 months.

Back then my gambling style was small deposits, if I won even just double my deposit then it was fine.But if I continued to lose the small deposits stacked up and then the big deposits and silly bets started.Sometimes I got lucky and ended up breaking even or winning ,but a lot of the time I ended up feeling shitty and angry at myself for being so stupid.

Although I have never been so stupid since then,all my accounts now have sensible weekly deposit limits.

My recent break was summer last year for around 5 months.I ended up joining a gym to fill the time I played slots and it worked. I still go go to the gym and I'm playing slots again but less so and only a few days per week.

i think thats a trap alot of people including me have fallen into, playing within your limits, i know ive chased losses before and ended up doing ridiculous bets in the hope they will drop a big win, and likewise sometimes its worked other times not, i find going old school with a pen and paper works for me, having wins and losses and an overall figure right under your nose seems to work well for me, its hard to ignore when its sitting on the desk next to the keyboard

I have done all those things. I've quit casinos (like 32red) because I just can't seem to win there, can't believe I'll ever get my TRTP and am disillusioned. I have quit many casinos after joining and WINNING based on the logic that as I'm way over my TRTP the casino will take it back over the coming sessions. Neither scenarios have a mathematical foundation, just my instinct. Now I play lower stakes, enjoy a good session and if I lose that's fine. If I cashout a profit all the better. Like many players on here, I've just got bored for a while and not played for a few weeks, once or twice a few months. It's all a matter of understanding of what you are doing, and experience.
It sounds like you aren't enjoying playing. If not, take a break, because it's a bad idea to play if you're angry or resentful at bad runs - you'll make bad decisions and the bad events will snowball. Focus on other things for a while, come back refreshed and play small stakes, and a get a new perspective.

My experience is, it always comes in Streaks... I never had a really bad day loosing a lot and then i started winning again... There are days i can hit every slot and win, and days i can't win. What i learned and started to do is: When i don't win, i stop and continue on another day...

Bad streaks are totally nothing weird, even if the stay for a long time....

I had a streak last year where i lost for like 6 weeks in a row. And then i went to the local casino on friday, after 20 spins i got 5 scatters on Cleopatra: = 2500x bet. The day after i played the "Greek Goddess" slot on Buzzluck for the first time and won a 6700$ Random Jackpot with 1$ bet. That happened in 2 days.... All these streaks are possible.

But i have no doubt that all the well known Software Providers use Software that is 100% fair.

I actually quit VP a couple of years ago after a long losing run at several of the highest rated casinos. I found that I was annoyed and frustrated before I even started playing with a deposit.
I knew then that whatever it was I was hoping to get from the casinos/games, I definitely wasn't getting it in any way. I think I quit online gambling then altogether until winter just past (just before I joined Casinomeister).

I've been playing slots exclusively since, but I'm sure I'll quite those altogether as well soon enough.
And quitting slots permanently is easy; I do it every day

I quit twice a month, usually around 3 days before pay day.

On a bad month I quit 3 days after pay day.

I decided to take a break and just uninstalled a bunch of casinos last night too - the last couple of years for me have been just dismal, I can occasionally get a few bucks ahead and then it's straight downhill. I'm pretty strict with my gambling budget and with no wins to fill up the pot, it goes pretty fast.

Funny though, I just realized that the last decent cashout I had was from a tourney win at Rushmore and I don't even remember how long ago that was.

Anyhow I figure if I take a couple weeks off maybe I'll get some other things done and come back to it in a better frame of mind.
