The question here is how much is enough in your betting account when playing craps to get by losses. Is there a magic formula?

I play frequently but am not a large bettor. The rule I have been using is--
If my account is 1500 or more I bet in increments of 10 dollars. If between 100 and 1499 I bet 5. If below 100 I bet 2. I have not based this on anything other than my own experience playing.

I am very curious what other bettors do and what they think is the right amount to have in their accounts for various bets. Or if their is some formula that works well for everything.

Thanks all for any of your thughts on this:rolleyes:

I don't play online but I don't bother with craps in Vegas unless I'm going to buy US$2k worth of chips for a $5 minimum table. I guess at a $2 table that'd be at least $750. Basically, 400:1. "1" being the table minimum. Even at that ratio, less than 15 minutes to bust is not unusual if you're covering any numbers to speak of. But if you get a heater going, woo hoo! Try betting the pass line, then if you make a number, placing bets in the "come" field to find their way to the numbers as you roll is a pretty good way to find numbers to cover without laying it all out too early and then crap out. Find 2 or 3 numbers this way, press your bets and see if you can hit some. Don't forget to bet odds on your pass line bet. Best rush I can generate without killing off brain cells! Good luck! I love craps!

As bern pointed out, you definitely have to have a high BR for craps - even more so than blackjack. To put this in perspective, at a $5 5x odds table, you're going to have $30 in play alone for the pass line and your odds bet on a 6/8 roll.

I don't know about online casinos, but some B&M casinos even offer 10x odds down in Atlantic City

10x my first bet has always worked for me.

With a craps bankroll of only 10x your bet, you're just throwing your money out of the window.

Say you roll a 6 or 8 and have $1 on the pass line. You take 5x odds for another $5. Next roll out: 7. You lose.

1 roll = < $6...

Unless I'm missing something here, a 10x BR is suicide.

Googling "bankrolling craps" produced some of the following:

Let us say that you are a wise craps player and only make a Pass Line bet with double odds and two Come bets with double odds. Your spread is 9 units. If you are a $5 player, you will be risking $45. You should have $4,500 ...to back up your play. -

...If you bet $5 pass line with double odds ($10) your bet total is only $15. There might be one pass line decision every 2-3 minutes, so your $300 buy-in will now last for at least twenty decisions, or about an hour. This longer time at the table will enable you to look for a streak of multiple passes, so you can increase your bets while youre winning and make even more money!

If you wager this way, your buy-in ($300) would be twenty times your bet size, which is considered more than adequate. In fact many Crapshooters would prefer a 10X ratio, which would allow you to either increase your individual bets, or buy-in for a smaller amount. -

You need at least 50 bets to play a table game for a full three-hour session. When calculating the size of your bankroll, also keep in mind that an average bet is not necessarily the lowest bet. This absolutely applies to craps. If the minimum bet is $10, then a pass-line bet with triple odds and two come bets with triple odds will require $120 on the table. All that money can disappear with one roll of 7. So a bankroll of $500 ($10 x 50 bets) can be overwhelmed quickly if the dice turn cold. To stay in the game with $120 on the table you must increase your session bankroll to at least $6,000, or lower the amount of money youre risking on one shooter. If you choose the latter option, you should decrease odds and decrease the number of bets, or find a table that allows $5 bets. -

So my bankroll of formula of 400:1 (1 = table minimyum bet amount) falls in the middle of all the above ranges of 60:1 - 900:1.

I'm crushed! lol I picked the top 3 or so Google results. Naturally, Scoblete's gonna be on top. Anyone who can write the no.1 book about a tablegame when readers can still bust out playing craps in about 20 mins even if they've memorized it cover to cover is gotta be a smart guy. I've wore that book out and I'd say that I have increased my average win at craps by about 25% as a result, all kidding aside. This is not online craps I'm talkin about tho, can't control the dice online, mais non?

I don't play the Pass Line. I Place Win 6 & 8 every roll. Also it depends if your goal is a certain win percentage, or a certain amount of time at the table, regardless of outcome. My goal is 10-20% profit. I know it seems small to most of you, but, I stick to low varience/high RTP games, and, where else can you make 10-20% on your money in a relatively short time these days? :)

Good point. However, 10-20% is not why most people gamble. And municiple bonds pay about 5% tax free with no risk which is as good as 10% any other way if that's your goal. I'd be 10 kinds a mad if I laid out $5k for chips, played a couple of hours and couldn't get over 20% and that's only against 11kinds a mad if I busted!
