Hi all,

I want to play poker online but hear all these horror stories about cheating casinos. How they let lesser players win more than they should, how their software helps to increase their rake, cheating players etc.

Which pokerroom is fair, doesn't do any of the rogue practices I mentioned above and actually does something against cheating?

Is there such a pokerroom? Or do they simply not exist?

I have checked out the Prima Poker Accredited Online Poker Rooms, but would like to hear your opinions.

John

Welcome to the forums johndem ;

The security depts. of the cardrooms aren't very open about the cheating detection methods that they employ. Some poker rooms take it much more seriously than others, of course. IMHO, there are quite a few cardrooms out there, that have shown by their policies / actions that they could care less about cheating / collusion.

There are only two major cardrooms out there that have gone public regarding past attempts to thwart cheating in their poker rooms PokerStars, and Party Poker.

I have played pretty much exclusively at PokerStars the last few years. I do not feel as though the software is designed to increase the rake.

One of the major problems I have with the poker rooms, (Although I fully understand why they do it) is that they do not tell what is potting in their investigations departments. I can tell you that Prima (Microgaming) has some of the best and most serious anti cheating systems out there. I also fully agree with REODeathwagon's vote for Pokerstars and Party poker. I just don't like playing there from a personal side. The play at Pokerstars can be most annoying and Party is to big for me. I usually look out for the regular fishes I know at the Prima Network. That way most days are pay days, :D

Thanks a lot for your replies. I appreciate your help a lot!

Chatmaster, can you tell me why you find the play at PokerStars annoying?
Is there not enough fish?

No, it is not that. I think I just do not feel at home at poker stars. I am very sensitive about things like that, lol. I tend to play to loose at Pokerstars and often risk allot more than it is worth. :D

And what about Partypoker? I hear lots of stories that their software is either rigged or just way off.

What are your experiences with them?

Any major online poker room is going to have stories of the software being rigged. It is the way losers justify their losses. As opposed to finding and filling, the holes in their own poker game. I personally played alot of hands at PartyPoker and never felt that their software was rigged or even slightly off.

PartyPoker has a very good regular and frequent bonus system. I rate the bonus system as very good for such a large poker room with lots of games / limits / players.

Besides their lacking customer [no] service issues, the only other problem I personally had with PartyPoker was the extremely high ante to bet amount ratio in their stud games.

I just have to laugh when players accuse poker software of being rigged. At least you'll know they're a fish if they claim it is ;)

Why would a publicly traded company such as PP, or any other major poker network/provider "rig" a game, just to earn a few extra bucks on rake? They could care less who wins or loses a hand/tournament, as long as they get their rake/entry fees.

Why would they want to jeopordize a multi million/billion dollar business for a fish?

Here's a quite funny read that directly pertains to some poker software being rigged: https://www.casinomeister.com/forums/threads/ipoker-titan-noble-fair-pure-scums.13980/

bpb sums it all up in a few lines during the thread:

People like you who are convinced that online poker is rigged generally share a few commonalities.

1) They suck at poker
2) They're bound to lose a lot of money at poker because they don't realize #1

But hey, maybe you're the exception.

johndem;

Two more things on Party Poker (iGlobal Media) that may kind of conflict with each other.

First as an American with now limited gaming choices. I think one way you can judge a business, is how it treats old customers it no longer serves.

Party Poker (iGlobal Media) gave the American market players advance warning of their USA pullout. Unlike, some of the other I Gaming companies that pulled out of the USA, Party Poker did not leave players bankrolls / deposits, caught in the middle of their business decision to pullout of the USA market.

On the flipside of this, is how Party Poker treated their USA based affiliates after the USA pullout. I think that many of the affiliates were dissatisfied with the market pullout procedures used. I am not an affiliate, and do not know the explicit details. Maybe one that reads this board will comment?

I have read several posts by people that had arguments on why online poker rooms would like to cheat or use their software to increase rake. Some of these arguments are completely legit and reason to worry BUT the majority of reputable poker software providers do understand the risk involved in tampering with the results of games. That is why the software are audited. If you also consider that people like Wizard of odds and eCOGRA have an extensive amount of knowledge to test the software and to pick up most types of tampering, the risk is extremely high to the poker rooms to damage their business in the long run.

At many tables when I go sit I pick up on a fish very quickly. It is like the fish has this sign on the forehead of "I am the cow, milk me!" I cannot see the need for poker rooms to even consider tampering with the outcome as the fishes are plenty and the rakes keep on running high, however if there is the smallest chance of their software being rigged the pros will pick up on it VERY quickly, with great publicity from respectable players this will mean the end of the poker room's business, I am pretty sure of it.

Exactly. With software like Poker Tracker and the obsessive nature of so many players if a poker room was cheating it would quickly be outed. In the day and age of regulations and the need to legitimize the industry it would be suicide to cheat.

Thats true but look how many casinos blatantly rip-off their players if they win!!

And they manage to stay in business.

I wouldn't be at all suprised if at least one of the "big" networks is tweaking the software a bit to either juice the rake, or have house players who can see all the cards.

Where theres money theres temptation, and big money = HUGE temptation.

I wouldn't be surprised either, but then again there is no concrete proof. I think there is more proof that UVO's has landed in Rosswell than there is of any Big operators cheating...

Ok thanks a lot for the info.

I have to say that some of the claims being made seem so credible, that you start to believe it. I mean if you withdraw your money they can no longer make any money of it. So that could a motive, to make sure you don't win too much or for a too long period of time. I'm sure that some rogue casinos use this method.

I think it would be much harder to catch a rigged video poker or blackjack game then poker. So many people are using some sort of software in poker. Think of it as any site that allows the use of Poker Tracker and supports it is a site that has nothing to hide.
