3 weeks ago at the age of 44 I ended up having a heart attack. I had 2 stents put in. This was all my own fault!!!!! I blame myself because of my smoking. Working out a few times a week and having a good diet does not give you permission to think that it's ok to smoke.I am very lucky to have recovered fully. I have had no desire to smoke since and never will again.

Please stop smoking!! Why wait for a heart attack to get you to stop smoking when you can avoid it by stopping now. I just wanted to share this and hope it helps someone stop smoking or at least make the first step to do so.

I AM SOOOOOO GLAD YOU ARE OK!!!!

Sending you super hugs!

Glad you are on the way to a healthier lifestyle. I'm sorry it took a wake-up call like yours to get things going. Best of health to you.

I smoked for about 14-15 years - for awhile up to two packs a day Camel non-filters.

I quit cold turkey when I hit thirty. The first couple of weeks were pretty tough, but after that - not a prob. And that was over twenty years ago. :D

I haven't smoked since then...cigarettes that is :p

My specialty is cardiac nursing and that is what I did for 10 years. Pulling stents, getting them ready..etc,..glad you didn't have to have open heart.

I gave up almost a month ago with the help of the patch. The first week was rough, 2nd week not so much and by the third week I was going without the patch for 2-3 days.

I started working out again and eating healthier...!!

Your probably gonna kill me for not mailing you. Sorry the truth is, I did not want anyone to know. I hate to worry anyone and I do not like talking about such personal problems I have and have anyone pity or worry about me. Then I pondered this for 2 weeks and thought if this helps one person stop smoking then it is worth it.
I will mail you later!

All the best cl. You are in my thoughts. I am a smoker also and yes i know time to stop. I am just not at that point yet. Glad your ok.

Ty Laura,I understand I felt like that as well. In your own time. I did stop smoking during my pregnancy 7 years ago. Then as soon as our daughter was born I could not wait to light up again. I just hope you can look at the warning signs for heart attacks in woman. I did not have any chest pains at all!! Both of my arms were in horrible horrific pain for 10 hours. It was in the middle of the night. Instead of waking up my hubby I took that cold/flu medicine to get me back to sleep I was in so much pain and thought I would deal with it in the morning if this could get me to sleep lol. My husband is so pissed at me for not waking him and greatful I am alive !he was and still is a mess about this. I am just lucky to, I am still in the game lol

Yes...you are in the dog house:lolup: I am a great worrier!!!

I am so glad you are doing good. I too am a smoker, have quit numerous times. BUT, I use the cigarettes as a crutch when times are tough. I know it is a very lame excuse, but have taken some steps to cut back. I was smoking 4-5 packs a day (not a typo), once cigarettes went to $5.00/pack here I decided I at least needed to cut back. I now only smoke outside the house, and I am rolling my own cigarettes to reduce the cost (just read cigarettes will be going up to $10/pack by the end of summer here).

When I started smoking (39 years ago, cigarettes were .50/pack) we didn't know all of the bad stuff. I was just told by my doctor I need to loose 20 pounds and to cut my cholesterol back 200 points. Perhaps, when I have accomplished that I can seriously consider quitting again. Sorry for the derail!

Sincerely, I am very glad you are doing well!

So happy you are doing better and quit smoking .
It was one the best things I ever did too :]
I came down with double pneumonia 5 and a half years ago . Had been going back and forth about quitting for New Years . Well that was taken out of my hands because I coulnd't even breath nevermind smoke . Good luck to everyone that tries and if it takes more than once then KEEP TRYING

Clj7221,

I am happy for you that you are doing better! Smoking has been a hard thing for me, too. I'd quit and start, quit and start. Once, I went over a year, and got the craving and my will power was taking the day off.

I have problems now. Finally realized I really didn't want to die (until I am a hundred years or more!), so I quit Dec. 8. The craving hasn't stopped but I am fighting it for my life.

Lung diseases like Emphysema, Chronic bronchitis, all the different diseases under the COPD label. Then we have lung cancer, a super nasty thing to deal with. All pretty much caused by smoking. And yet we humans still do it.

Next, I have to go on a diet, putting weight on this time when I quit. Bad, Bad girl!! :o

Glad you're better! Wow, how scary! I used to smoke about a pack of Marlboro Reds a day then I started buying cans of Top tobacco and rolling my own. I hand roll and only when I want a cigartte, not in bulk in advance. I smoke about 4 or 5 a day this way and I don't notice any extra cravings. I know it's still way better to quit altogether but I'm also a realist. It'll never happen. Even if both of my lungs fell out and my cats managed to run off with 'em. I'd just stick lit cigs into the air intake pipe on the iron lung. :o

I should not be telling anyone to stop smoking because of what happened to me. I should have done this post in a different way. Many times I don't think things through before I post. It is so not easy to stop smoking. I did when I was pregnant and then when my daughter was born, I could not wait to light up again. It is hard and everyone has to do it when they are ready. I appreciate reading everyone's posts and sharing things you have all gone through and are going through. The fear is keeping me from lighting up. When I have the urge I take a nicorrete gum. It certainly is not even close to a smoke but it taste like crap that I spit it out and I don't think about a cigarette again for another week lol.

Smoking was the worst drug ive ever quit.
And ive quit a few

Iam glad your ok your a Lucky 1
You Hit The Jackpot Man !!!

What I really hate in smoking, is that you become dependent on this crap. My friend forgot his cigarettes when we went to a five-day hike in the mountains. I think he did not have fun at all. Though he was waiting for almost half a year of this hike.

This habit has to thing to do with physical dependence. I recommend your friend to read Allen Karr's book "easy way to stop smoking" as I did few years ago. And I haven't been smoking any single cigarette since the day I finished reading.
