Personal rules for Online gaming

Hi guys,
I am trying to lay down some ground rules for my venture into online gaming so as to prevent myself from being sucked into the hole. The most obvious difference from B&M joints is physcal location. Online gaming effectively teleports the casino right into your bedroom (or vice versa). I've also read some posts on the horrors of online gaming, just to keep myself planted and how things can go horribly wrong.
What are personal rules? Mine are as follows:

1. Identify the capital (must be spare cash that can be lost without remorse)
2. Identify a cut off based on profit, loss or time. (my weakness)
3. Do not game when the kids are around
4. Do not play before work or major events like anniversary, birthdays, etc.

Thanks for sharing.

I think another thing is, if someone ask you to go hang out, don't stay home and play. Just Go. Social life should be above casino life, unless your social life is your casino life.

LOL. But good advice actually

I have a seperate "spare cash" bank account which is dedicated to online gaming. When its dry, its dry...my other account is untouchable...except by the bloody mortgage company and the Inland Revenue :D

I've been playing since early 2002 and have learned a lot along the way:

1. Never play when you're tired, emotional, upset, etc.

2. If you're on a losing streak (3 or more deposits without winning), take at least a few days off. Don't keep depositing to try to win back what you've lost.

3. Before you log into a casino, decide how long you will play.. an hour? 5 hours? 3 days nonstop? Set a timer and stick to it. Regardless of the results, log off when you reach your limit.

4. Do the same thing with balances. Determine how much you are willing to lose before you call it quits for the session. Example: You can set autoplay to 100 spins and have it stop if your balance drops to a specific level. Conversely, you can have it stop if it increases to a certain level.

Autoplay saves me from the "I'm now hypnotized by Thor" situation that I used to experience quite often (fill in with your favorite 'fast paced' slots).

5. I use a prepaid debit card to control my spending. I can only spend what's on the card, so I can't go too crazy.

6. Have realistic expectations every session. Don't expect to win huge amounts every time. Expect to break even but hope for a nice hit.

7. If you win and cash out, use the winnings for something OTHER than casino deposits :D

Best of luck to you!

Im a bonus hunter - so hare are my rules - whcih have made me a positive revenue each month i 4 years:)

1. never play without a bonus - 50% is the smallest I ever play with.

2. wagering requirements never bigger that 20 times deposit and bonus

3. Play only BJ or VP - if the bonus is very good tricard is okay.

4. Withdraw when you have reach even a small win - I sometimes withdraw winnings down to 40-50$

5. Flatbet - im flatbetting with 10$ or 25$ - that will give some looses but I the long run you will win more.

6. Only play at payable casinos - its a waste of time playing all the crap!

Good luck at the tables.

You'll need luck in finding bonuses that fulfill these criteria, AND are from a casino that intends to pay without hassle.

I will always play where the best offer appears to be. I will always take a good bonus from my regular casinos, but I will often ignore big "too good to be true" bonuses from those that have had problems. I always read T & C, to ensure the offer really is as good as it seems.

If I get a mailer "200% up to 16,000", I will check very carefully. NO - this is NOT a silly example, I REALLY DID get this last year on several occasions. I had no problem ignoring it!

Sheez! How boring are you guys!!!

FFS - If you are gonna gamble - GAMBLE!

Blow every penny you got, until it runs out. When it runs out, ask your granny for more.

The big win will come in eventually - it always does. LOL!!

I nearly fell asleep reading this thread.

Were you recently employed as a copywriter by Jackpot Factory by any chance?

Wow! How did you guess that!?!

What do you want to know?

What is the best game to play for curing sarcasm?

As for advice to the OP, many poker rooms/casinos will allow you to set deposit limits and betting limits that you can only change once every two weeks or something. It is good to set these before you begin playing to help yourself from tilting off all your money.

THanks Freezer.

Does 32Red have this feature? I've been getting a bad run. Was up almost 5k and now gave it back and more. It sucks. I've no discipline. As much as I try to stick to my rules, it crumbles as soon as place the first bet. Sigh... perhaps I'm not strong and disciplined enough to game online.

Rules

Never go back once a place has pissed me off.

I also try to avoid short pay video poker games, but I'm not so good at that discipline.

I can say I'm going to do this responsible money management thing, but it's a waste of breath/typing. I want to win money, but I also want to have fun so sometimes I just have to go for it.

Fortunately, I've been on this incredible winning streak lately and I've been much better about yanking the money out of my Neteller.

Rules

1. never gamble sober

2. always share your winnings (with a hooker)

3. if you bust out, immediately go to CM and start a "(insert casino name here) sucks!" thread.

4. don't play VP with your King Neptune's bonus

Personal limits

I took a break for awhile, had been on a losing streak. Have been making small deposits to see if something will hit, have become a very low roller for a while, and I have found better control doing this. I find that I can enjoy 30, 40, or even 50 just as much as 300,400,500 and although I haven't gotten the hits in the thousands, I am not losing as much either, and I have hit some nice things in the 600-900 dollar range. These are usually after getting a hit for around 200 and then increasing my usual 90 cents bet to 2.25 and every once in a while the $9 spin.
Also trying more casinos, but being careful which ones. Getting some nice extras through gonegambling, which is where I go to take a break from the real gaming also. I have also found the cashout button, not quick enough this morning, LOL, but I did find it again and use it a bit more often and am trying to build up my Neteller account to use for gambling so my checking account will be eventually virtually off limits for that activity.

Unfortunately, I don't believe this is a feature available on any Microgaming casino. I suppose it can't hurt to call 32Red and ask if they could put a weekly deposit limit on your account though.
