Tips Paigow.....never played and would like to try

I am an expert at paigow tiles but not paigow poker lol. Basically the poker version means the player and dealer both get 7 cards out of a deck of 53 cards, the additional card being a Joker and is counted as an Ace but can also be used to complete a flush or straight in the high hand(5 cards). To win you have to beat the dealer's hands, both hi and lo. The lo hand consists of 2 cards whereas the high hand consists of 5 cards. A push in either the lo hand or high hand favours the dealer.

I would suggest you play for fun at MG casinos since they help you set the cards using the optimal strategy.

Frankly paigow poker is boring when compared to the 'real thing' ie paigow tiles as there is much more to learn and the tiles give you pleasure through the cracking sounds and 'feeling' which is something similar to mahjong.

Any advice about how to play or any strategy involved?
There is a fairly simple strategy for this game - you should be able to find it on The Wizard of Odds site.
I used to play this game a LOT back in the days when it was allowed at 100% in Intercasino's and Will Hills' monthly bonuses (those WERE the days!), but have hardly touched it for the last 5 or 6 years.
It's definitely worth getting to know; it's a lot more interesting than Blackjack and there are ways of playing in a "defencive" style if you are on a bad run.

When I last visited Vegas (bloody yonks ago now :(), PaiGow was the only game that I actually made any profit on!

I like the game, it is game that is not fast paced and for the most part relaxing. I do think a good place to try it would be on a free game site or in fun mode until you get the hang of it. There really is alot to remember though. And one thing to keep in mind when your playing is that most places have a "set way" the dealer has to play their cards. The player can set theirs anyway they want as long as the top hand isn't higher than the back hand. In a B&M casino, the dealer will give you advice on setting your hand if asked, but I am not sure if that happens online.

Now I would love to learn how to play with tiles. When I go to Las Vegas I try and look to see if a casino is holding a class on teaching you how to play but for some reason they never have them, just classes on Poker. I try to watch people playing the game at the table but they go so fast I can't figure it out.

Good luck Nifty, and let us know how you make out if you try it.

I used to play this a fair bit and the strategy that kept winnings/losses at an okay level were to try and make two hands when possible, for eg sake say you have a full house but no lo hand, split this into 3OAK and a pair (if the pair is 9`s or above).

A damn good run in demo mode would be the best advice though bud ;).

One game I have been testing out on lately is multi hand 3 card poker with a pair or above extra bet, I will give this a try in real mode soon.

Please be careful with this game - it can drop your balance quicker than you can say "Where's my credit card..." :eek2:

When I play, I usually bet 1.5 to 2 x more on the anti than the Pair Plus bet = sort on insurance.
But seriously, when you hit a bad run you are losing 3 bets on each hand on each deal - which can be vicious if you're playing 3 hands and betting large-ish. :(

Thanks for the advice bud ;), the game i`ve been testing is the 5 hand one, as like any game of poker it requires balls of steel regarding folding or raising on weak hands, no matter how bad a losing run goes you would have to have terrible luck on a losing sequence of all 5 hands per game, remember the dealer has to beat 5 hands each game and the Pair Plus Bet returns more for hands higher than a pair, tbh i`ve never played a game that appears to have such a very slight house edge, remember the dealer does not take extra cash from you for hands of a pair and above ;).
