Hiya: Why are the, "Old" Threads not deleated, or at least the, "Reply" button removed from them, or "locked"?

There are many people who see a thread, or the link to a thread, "listed at the bottom of the page" to others of the same topic, that are anywhere from a few weeks, to several years old. Yet, if you clicked on it, and actually replied to it, you get a Warning not to be replying to OLD post.

I don't know. Never got around to implementing a cut off date, I guess. I just figured that members would look at the date and make an informed decision. I shouldn't have to fool-proof everything y'know.

But maybe I should ;)

Need the Info....

I don't think a cut off date would be a good thing, as sometimes the subject of certain threads can still be relevant. I know I do a lot of searches on casino names when I get offers, I like to see what kind of rep they have on the threads here. Sometimes that info may be a little old but still applicable.
So anyway, just my thoughts on that;)

Yeah but, there are some live threads that are +8 years old. When they get bumped, it's annoying. It's better for members to start new threads instead of bumping the old ones - like more than a year old.

Deleting is not an option nor a consideration.

Looking for a solution.

How about making old threads change to a different color on the 1 year anniversary ? This way they can be distinguished from the new ones even if someone bumped it...?

.

Maybe just pop-up a reminder when forum member is trying to reply (clicks on "Reply" button) on thread last reply on which was more than 1 year ago?
Somethin like "Hey! You are bumping an old thread! Why don't just create new or try find not so old?"

Something like that.

Or just, "Lock" it, like what happens when a new tread turns into a flame war or something........The whole idea being, Stop people from bringing back old threads, well, "It won't happen, if it CAN'T Happen".

Isn't there an option to automatically lock a thread after a year (for example) of inactivity. IF it is still relevant to reply to, a request can be made to a moderator to manually unlock it. At the moment, it takes only ONE person to add to an old thread, and it becomes current, and anyone then reading the latest reply would assume this is a new discussion, and thus may add further replies to it.

Often, the issues in an old thread are no different to current issues, and I think most members assume that if a thread appears on the first page, it is current, even though it has appeared there because it has been bumped.
