Hi there in geekland!

I got a new computer last year and paid for the Norton software

The renewal is coming up in a few days Is it worth the 69 bucks they want to charge for renewal? I really like it better than mccaffee which i had with my old computer
What is the best freebie I can download to do the same stuff as Norton?

Oh and by the way , recently, when playing at JC or Slotastic I keep getting a msg (probl) from Norton ) that there is high disc usage whatever that means
And the slots are still jerky, fast , slow Somethiong is wrong here very annoying
THANKS for any suggestions!

Definitely not worth it, Norton is a bloated pile of crap IMO. I tried to rescue a relatives computer years ago with Norton "protecting" it, there were a ton of pop-ups and warnings about the viruses it allowed to infect the machine, but didn't do anything useful for cleaning and obviously didn't protect it in the first place. There were over 1000 infected files, several emails per second being sent to people in her contact list, etc. Ended up having to reformat and install windows from scratch, along with Avast for virus protection.

Avast is free, I've used it for years and it works well. AVG is also a popular free one, never used it but heard good things about it.

norton is crap total garbage

heres a few decent thing to secure you pc 1 spybot s@D its free and blocks bad crap 2 avast cloud antivirus another freebie 3 bitdefender was always a good program id say panda cloud if you need a lightweight solution .i can tell you this much norton is bloatware and sux you pcs power when removing make sure you get all there software also remove programs you dont use that came with your pc .and emember to pick up a usb key or external drive if you have alot of data and back up your important things bi monthy :)

I've been using Norton for years and love it. I would suggest when you go to renew that you call support and not just do it automatically. They will help you download the latest software version and may get you a better price if you start questioning them.

I always find better prices at amazon or newegg for the new version. Enter the new registration number into what you already have installed and voila! all set for another year. I use NIS (Norton Internet Security). They've finally taken the hint and slimmed it down so it isn't so bloated as in previous years.

I agree with the nay-sayers.
I know it was a long time ago, but I put Norton on my desktop PC and it was total crap. Yes, OK it protected the computer, but at an extreme cost; the PC ran at about half the speed AND they charged me £70+ per year for the privilage!
Total garbage.

I'm not sure if it's a full anti-virus progam - but the best thing I have ever used for getting rid of unwanted viruses etc is Malwarebytes.
That one IS worth the money!

If you take security seriously then don't use a broken Operating System to begin with.

If you are like 99% of users who just want to browse the internet, access email and messaging, play games, watch videos and listen to music - then I would strongly recommend replacing your Windows OS with Ubuntu (Linux).

Not only is it free, but it's faster and more reliable than windows. You will never have to worry about security because there are no viruses. I can safely open any attachment or vist any website without worrying about becoming infected.
