Sheesh! Seems like life in collegiate towers can lead you down rabbit holes of intellectual thinking that leads to nowhere.
Well, first of all you would have to define language. Language isn't always verbal and almost every species has some sort of rudimentary way to communicate. If we're talking about the spoken language, my opinion is that it evolved over tens or even hundreds of thousands of years. Humans took a very different evolutionary path from most other species. Where some species achieved great speed and strength, we relied on our intelligence to survive. But unlike most species whose survival skills were mostly instinctual and hereditary, much of ours probably required instruction.
These are just my opinions but I think as our tools and methods became more complex along with our societal structure it makes sense that our means to communicate would also become more complex or it would become increasingly difficult to share all the new information. It could have started out with simple sounds relating to warnings or requests for specific things but this would have all taken place long before there was any way to keep a record of it. Any written language would have come long, long after a spoken language had evolved and since archeologists can't really dig up conversations it's a little difficult to pin point when it started or how long it took to evolve.
There are some aspects of our evolution that we may never know because time has a real efficient way of erasing evidence. The actual parts that combine to make speech possible don't fossilize so at what point in our history we developed the capability to create complex sounds and actual words can only be guessed. The puzzle may never be complete.
