Why aren't Australians permitted at wagerworks casinos?
Wagerworks and some of their licencees have been very strict (too strict IMO) in following local laws. As Aussies can't play at Aussie based online casinos, even though they can play the offshore ones legit as I understand, Wagerworks seem to have erred on the side of caution and adopted the "illegal" stance.
I suspect this has something more to do with IGT than WW themselves as IGT UK owns WW. What I do find a little confusing is that some casinos using WW have a less comprehensive list of "banned" countries than others.
For example, while Germany, US, Oz, Holland and quite a few others are on every WW licencee's banned list, some aren't. Case in point, Austria where, according to the T&C's when I looked, players can play Paddy Power but not Virgin.
Also Canada, where they can play Sky Vegas (if they can work out how to deposit!!), but not Paddy Power or Virgin. Although I suspect that is more down to the fact that Sky Vegas use hybrid games from different manufacturers and aren't an exclusive WW licencee.
As far as Oz goes, you can't play at any of the 3 mentioned, and probably not other exclusive WW licencees (that needs checking), but as far as I can make out, you may be able to play at Tote and get your hands on Cleopatra - I say "may" as their T&C's were fuzzy last time I looked....Australia was not specifically mentioned.
All in all, a bit odd, but hopefully things will change at some point in the future as jurisdictions wake up to the benefits of regulation and WW licencees put pressure on WW to be a little less cautious, which is inevitable.
