so..... after I THOUGHT I was almost there thanks to your help, I am now online (for now) with an old box unit tower I brought in 2011!
After the driver rollback/update - PC forced a restart and that was that, no more screen>>>pc communication.
I think it has to be the graphics card gone kaput now does it not????
Anyway this old unit is soooo slow and outdated, dunno how long it will last, just when I was crawling towards getting back on my feet, BOOM, something else comes along
I think the new graphics card is too expensive so if I disappear from CM for a while, you'll all know why
Edit: I think the exact style/name of graphics card is Nivea G-force (or something like that), it is named fully in my "time for a new PC thread" - Maybe someone can point me in the direction of a cheap one maybe?
Are these usually plug n play please?
1 Reboot in Safe Mode.
2 Uninstall the driver.
3 Disconnect from the internet and then restart the system.
4 In normal mode, install the new driver.
Trouble is i have no pc diagnostic tool..to check your graphics card, so can't help much.Reason why update was not successful was because your pc has conflicting software issues. You probably did not remove old traces of different versions software, thus your system is confused.
Will give it a try, that's if I can see what I'm doing if it will display lol
Remind me please is it F11 as its starting to boot up to get the safe mode menu?
F11 or Alt + F10 for recovery or reboot..this is for Windows 8 version.
Do you have a manual for your Windows 8? i worry you might do the wrong thing in haste.
In short, you must go to "Advanced options -> Startup Settings -> Restart". Then, press 4 or F4 on your keyboard to start in Safe Mode, press 5 or F5 to boot into "Safe Mode with Networking," or press 6 or F6 to go into "Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
No manual and no display, so I have to listen out for it booting up, drill the F11 and hope the disply shows the boot menu.
Sadly I cannot do any of these as the screen is black throughout start up and when PC is fully 'ready to go'
I am gonna ask you if you can see cmd prompt in your black screen?i.e. - C:/I'm having a nightmare lol.
No discs, no manuals, no recover software.
I basically paid a guy who used to run his own PC business to do a build from scratch.
Chose the components with advice from members here and he brought it to my house all pre-loaded and ready to go.
Even been googling and PC world don't appear to offer the 'free' diagnostics that they used to do???

You do not have permission to view link Log in or register now.- free diagnostic tool
Then how come you can access the internet?Did you use your mobile?

Nope, cannot see anything.
It is like the screen is receiving no signal at all from the PC
One screen
My primary PC it displays black screen, tower is working as all the keyboard and mouse lights are on and the fan is running.
Old PC (the 2011 one) is working with the same screen so its not the screen, speed is so slow, it reminds me of my ZX Spectrum days!
Despite my (VERY) limited knowledge and from your guys input I am 99% convinced its either
i) The video card Nivida thing-ma-bob
ii) The driver causing a problem
iii) The little black plug which allows the fittings to match on the monitor cable
*Apologies for the lack of technical jargon - also thanks for all the input today one and all!

Just one more thing.
Did you check if the display card is still properly in its slot? Maybe it loosened up when you were running around the house with the case?
