Oh, I am jealous. I visited Malta 3 years ago, and the only rep that bought me a beer was IanO who was living there at that time. Where were you Andy?
I've been quite a few places, and the blue lagoon is probably the most beautiful water I have ever swam in. If you are on a budget, there are water taxis to take you there that are much cheaper than a boat cruise. The beach is uber crowded, but the lagoon is large so once you are swimming it is not crowded at all.
I don't think I had a bad meal in Malta. Order rabbit at least once, it's the national dish, and is very expensive many other countries. There are also these little pastry shops that sell sausage rolls and savory pies, including one with cheese and peas that is traditional maltese. Very cheap, great for grabbing a little something to tide you over, or a quick lunch on the run during a busy day. Pizza is excellent, fresh seafood everywhere, outdoor patios overlooking the water, even at McDonalds.
I visited Portofino casino, my feeling was a little meh.
I will try post a few of my pics from my visit.
This website I found pretty informative, but it looks like it is out of date.

You must try Kinnie. I think it is an acquired taste. Gotta give Cisk a big thumbs up.
Bring good shoes. I don't know how they do it, but everywhere is uphill somehow.
Pretty much every weekend all summer is a long weekend, and a festival or two happening. They love fireworks, there are displays somewhere or other very frequently.
