Mahjong looks complicated but extremely cool. I've seen a rise in playing the game online for real money and have decided to give it a whirl.

Does anyone else know about Mahjong and if so, is it as fun as it looks? I've written a lot of content about mahjong as I am a writer for gaming sites but would like to know more about it from a player perspective. Is there money in it? What are the best sites to play at and why?

Anything you've got would be helpful though I'm very interested in learning from anyone who plays it for real money.

If you want to play for free, you can play on pogo. You can play for cash on worldwinner.

This game is not difficult to learn but its not easy to excel in. I started playing the game since I was 16 and in my 20s and 30s played an average of 20 hours per week. In a way, its also like texas hold 'em poker as you have to understand your opponents.

There are so many versions of the game nowadays I have now lost track of them. The game that I play consists of 136 tiles where the dealer gets 14 tiles and the other 3 players get 13 tiles. To be able to win you must have an arrangement of tiles in 4 sets of 3 tiles and the remaining 2 tiles to be of the same. Calculation of winnings differs according to the rules set by the players concerned.

I believe it would be easier for a person who knows a bit of math to play the game as when you have 13 tiles you need to quickly realise what tile you need to complete the winning hand and that's not always easy. If any of you guys can download a set of mahjong tiles in a thread here I can show you how to play, step by step.

Out of interest would you say you are a winning Mahjong player? Has it been profitable for you?

Yes, I win roughly 70% of the time and someone remarked this gave me a mre stable income than my full-time job lol. For the past 5 years though, I havent been playing, partly due to illness but mostly because no one wants to play with me.

Wow I am way off, when I seen the title I thought "how does one play Mahjong and win $$" unless it was like solitaire.

I did not know it was commonly played with more than 1 person :) I have only ever played it alone.

You learn something everyday at CM
