Language barriers

I'm sure I created a similar thread about across the world vast differentiations in idions and phraseology (English) but I come across this one often, and it's for French-speaking members.
Here, an acceptable response to merci would be de rien; but talking to francophones outside ON/Qc, i get a weird, kind of blank stare.
Is it not the correct response elsewhere? (also, i know bienvenue is acceptable here, though strictly speaking it's the 'welcome' likened to 'happy arrival' not 'returned/accepted thanks'

In France, well, in the region where I lived they would say.

"à l'aise" as in "no probs" or "pas de problème" but quickly spoken, so half was somehow eaten up.

de rien was the more formal variant.

pas de probleme here as well (very informal) - same, a garbled version like i dont know becomes dunno

My French is utterly atrocious; tried to learn living in Qc (Gatineau), but Franglish was the common currency, so I was completely pooched

One of the reasons I wish Ispoke it better is to understand tongues like Italian, Portugese and Spanish (my Spanish is even worse)
The one I can speak rather well, Indonesian (or, because of commonalities like the romance languages, Malay), I've never a chance to use it, even as eclectic as Canada is.

Speaking of language barriers.. They can be a pain in the butt, or sometimes funny.
But did you know they could be beautiful?
Im talking of course, of the great language barrier reef.
