Anyone familiar with the rules surrounding this? According to the UKGC a casino has 72 hours to verify someone's identity and age. If you are not asked for your details, I.e passport etc within 72 hours then are you playing illegally? Also what happens if details are wrong on sign up, for instance, a digit out on DOB or mis-spelt name etc?

If someone can confirm it would be appreciated.

i don't think they have to ask you within 72 hours but rather they have 72 hours from requesting your documents to confirm all the details are correct .

Not according to the UKGC. They say

"If you have opened an account and deposited money, the company has 72 hours to check that you are old enough to gamble. If it can't confirm your age within that time it must freeze the account"
Also says similar about identity for money laundering.

When registering from the UK, the registration entries are immediately cross-referenced with GAMSTOP, then most Jersey/Gibraltar/IoM casinos use a VerifyMe service for age/address checking. Malta based casinos will normally request manual verification of photo ID and address within 72 hours.

GAMSTOP is currently optional for operators, expected to be compulsory from December 2018 but is subject to ongoing IT issues. For UKGC licensed operators, age and address must be verified within 72 hours of opening an account or it will be closed automatically. But when the operator is duel-licenced (e.g. UKGC/MGA) there is some leeway on this. All accounts on MGA must be verified when withdrawals exceed €2300 (or GBP equivalent) that is why so many disputes appear months/years later.

Hi, do you know what details casinos are supposed to be checking on Gamstop? Interesting that you mention IT issues. Might explain why so many are having problems with it.

Not very impressed with how they match. I would have thought matching 3 from 5 would be much more effective. I'm down to 4 before I even start as I use different emails for different casinos (ie guts@mydomain, videoslots@mydomain etc). Anyone addicted could quite easily get round the checks, I would have thought if say a postcode and surname matched then extra checks should be done rather than just allowing it to go through.

Tend to agree with this. Should be a suspended account until verifications can be carried out.

That is why I always try to verify my account in casino before depositing any money.:)
