There's so many things wrong with this... He's 28, the girl is 14....

Investigators say they met through an online gambling Web site in January and started a sexual relationship.

I almost blew my stack until I read the following:

Twenty-eight-year-old Andrew Pettitt of Arnot, Pa., still faces trial next month on charges of third-degree sex offense, second-degree assault and perverted practice involving the alleged victim.

I'd rather them drop the kidnapping charges than to have the whole case thrown out of court on a technicallity.

The Garrett County Sheriff's Office said when they arrested Pettitt in September that the girl willingly left her home in the Bronx with Pettitt about a week before they were found.

I'd like to know WTF the child was doing at an online gambling web site and which site .....

Good question Mousey....where were the parents?

My daughter is only eight, and she uses the computer alot. But I know EVERY website she visits, and she knows what's allowed and what isn't. AND for how long. Even on some of the kids sites she plays at, they have a chat function, and unless I'm sitting with her, I have it disabled.

I just wonder if it was Pogo and they're blowing it out of proportion as to where they met.

Here's another case of "heard it through the grapevine." It seems that papers are just recycling the original story, and changing what they see fit.

Here's the original story. Notice it says through online gaming. Gaming could be anything from Doom to online casinos.

Pa. man arrested living in car with runaway teen

Garrett deputies file sex charges; girl returns to N.Y.
From Staff Reports
Cumberland Times-News

OAKLAND — A 28-year-old Pennsylvania man was arrested early Wednesday in Garrett County where he had reportedly spent the last three days living out of his car with a 14-year-old runaway girl from New York’s Bronx borough.

A deputy on patrol observed a suspicious vehicle on a dirt road off Maryland Highway near the intersection with Leon White Road at Oakland at about 4 a.m., according to the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies then found Andrew Jason Pettitt of Arnot, Pa., and a 14-year-old girl who had reportedly run away from home the night of Sept. 11 with the assistance of Pettitt.

Pennsylvania and New York authorities had been searching for Pettitt and the runaway youth, who was listed as a missing person with the New York City Police Department.

Deputies arrested Pettitt on two counts each of third-degree sex offense, second-degree assault, perverted practice and contributing to certain conditions of a child in addition to a single charge of kidnapping.

Pettitt was jailed in the Garrett County Detention Center in lieu of $305,000 bond following bail review in district court.

Pettitt and the minor were interviewed by detectives, who learned the pair had been in Garrett County for the past three days living in Pettitt’s vehicle. During that time, Pettitt allegedly engaged in an inappropriate consensual sexual relationship with the minor, police said.

Further investigation revealed Pettitt met the victim in January through online gaming and then started a relationship with her.

Pettitt subsequently traveled to New York where he allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship with the girl.

A week ago, they left New York for return to Pettitt’s residence in Tioga County. After one day there, they traveled to Garrett County. Police found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in Pettitt’s Subaru Legacy. The vehicle has been impounded.

Late Wednesday morning, police said the youth had been released to the custody of her parents. Apparently she will not be charged in the case.

Additional charges are pending against Pettitt in Pennsylvania and New York.

Thanks Winbig. So much for reporters reporting 'facts'. So now I wonder which was it? Gaming? As you said that could be MSN, Pogo, etc. Guess reporters don't know the difference.

That's for sure. They all love to use these neat "buzz words" to make their articles more "interesting."

The only good thing that's going to happen is that this guy is going to prison for a very long time.

At 14, she's well below the age of consent, so even if she did go with him willingly, that doesn't mean squat. She's not old enough to make that decision.

Maybe if we started castrating sex offenders and/or child molesters, people wouldn't be doing this shit. It makes me SICK.

I have 4 girls, my oldest is almost 14 - she has bugged me for about 2 years for a My Space account - I am always monitoring what she is doing but still I don't like it. I have friends that tell me I'm being over protective, but I've heard of to many horror stories of online predators. I know what I let her do will trickle down and all my other girls are waiting for their chance to open these My space accounts.

As long as you educate her on what to do/not do with any social networking site such as myspace, she should be ok.

The main thing is to NOT give out personal information on those, or any other site.

My friend told me last night that one of his friend's forum accounts was breached because someone used information given on his myspace account to guess his password....
