Jury Duty

Just Serve With Pride.
You may not even be picked.

Or just tell them......

Simple to get out of. Just say on the form you belong to the BNP and they will not call you - my Mum did that, works every time.
You might not serve anyway, you will go into a room of about 20-30 people and 15 will be chosen by ballot, that's when you could be removed. Of those 15 they will read 12 names out so you have an 80% RTP if you are one of the 15. You will be paid for the day regardless, via claim form and they pay you within the week usually.
If one of the 12 you will be asked to affirm an oath on the Bible or if a muzbot an affirmation card, after the lawyers have had chance to object to you which won't usually happen. Don't think your service will be quick. it will last at least 2 weeks, as if your case lasts 2 days you'll get another one and so-on until the 2 weeks is up. If you get a complex trial it can go on for months. Your employer cannot take any action against you for being called, or force you to use holiday pay or leave up. The employer needs to fill a form in which you have to give in on day 1 for loss of earnings which you will be refunded, if self-employed an accountants letter as proof. You can claim daily subsistence expenses (petrol costs/parking/food etc):

Hours Served per Day

Days Served

Maximum Allowance per Day

Up to 4 1-10 £32.47
Up to 4 11-200 £64.95
Up to 4 201 + £114.95
Over 4 1-10 £64.95
Over 4 11-200 £129.91
Over 4 201 + £228.06

It's bloody tedious and you cannot have laptops/phones during the day so no online gaming lol. If you speak outside the jury room about the trial you are in contempt, they are very hot on that. Just pray one fellow juror doesn't get ill or not turn up one day or you'll have to start again like happened to me. Look on it as an experience. You can also attach a 'rider' to the verdict if the majority of jurors agree (you are not told this and very few are aware of it) but it essentially means for example:
A bloke is kept awake by noisy neighbours, and snaps eventually, smashing through the wall with a hammer from his house and then punching the householder. Charged with assault, criminal damage and ABH he is found guilty according to the facts. You jurors agree that he suffered immense provocation and frustration, but find him guilty. However, you only do so on the basis he is NOT given a custodial sentence having suffered himself.
You (after stating 'guilty') get the foreman to read out a statement, brief as possible, to the judge on behalf of you all citing preference for a 'minimal' punishment. Judges are there to sentence and like you will already be aware of mitigating facts, and don't like this BUT it is your right, and it looks bad if they ignore the sentiments of 12 men good and true.....

Enjoy!

Yeah, my little bit of humour.:D

I must officially give notice that I am reporting your post to the https://www.casinomeister.com/forums/threads/56637/ thread for a CLASS A VIOLATION! You have transgressed the second-most serious rule after 'should of' with wilful use of 'your' in place of 'you're'.:(

I've handed in my British passport and shall expel myself to one of the colonies :(

You will spend one year banished to the British Antarctic Territory with no internet access.

Today I heard on the radio that California is wanting to "be first" in having "NON CITIZENS" called for Jury Duty!

Now we call them via Voter Registration and Motor Vehicle Registration-----duh!?

Mary Jean

I read that this week. What do you think the thought process is for this, because I really don't understand the reasoning behind it.

Could you shed a little light on where the individuals that are pushing for this are coming from?

California The Left Coast of the US

Since I only heard about this particular bright idea this morning, I cannot intelligently say, but since our legislature is predominantly left wing in Sacramento, I can only guess that it is one more of their domineering adventures, such as banning plastic bags, banning bottled water, banning fireplace fires on the days that one would most want one, banning farmers from turning over their land because a water faucet leaked and it made a "wet land", stopping farmers from plowing their fields in "mid-plow" because some "inspector" said he saw a rare mouse----etc----etc---

It is getting tough to live in California!

MaryJean

p.s. Can you guess what will happen when the Jury cannot speak English and they need interpreters besides?

I figured as much. I feel bad for you Mary Jean! I work with persons who don't speak English and it causes problems. I could see a lot of potential for things getting misinterpreted in the translation.
