The owner of the Irish Bookmaker Paddy Power, Flutter Entertainment have announced today that the company is to cut up to 1,400 jobs as a result of the company being unable to absorb the full costs of the tax rises imposed on the gambling industry.

According to the BBC, staff in their Leeds and Dublin offices are to be hit the hardest, with the company also shedding staff in their Romania and Portugal offices.

Really ambivalent towards this

I don't want to see anyone out of a job as everyone willing to work should be able to BUT the increase of betting shops when FOBT's were making them millions was like a cancer spreading through the country.

I feel sorry for those out of work, but as a corporation I hope it eventually crashes and burns

AI will be the real reason for the job losses. Pure greed
It's quite scary to think were the AI revolution is taking the world. I'm not one for conspiracy theories etc. But it feels like our reliance on technology and pace in which AI is developing is ridiculous. The world will be very different in the next couple.of years

I always say thank you to Chatgpt - hoping that when it does take over, it will remember that i was nice so it at least might let me be one of the slave supervisors or managers

I feel for the youngesters who have no assets. And what is the point of so many subjects at school these days when so many subjects are redundent for their job prospects?

Best option for kids these days is to learn a trade. Someone will always need a plumber or electrician, or builder etc etc.
My lads 5 - he's already taking an interest everytime I'm servicing my cars or bikes - got him his own little mechanics kit. Loves getting involved in any diy project so keep encouraging him to get amongst it whenever I'm working on anything

Amazes me how many people can't change a tyre, chamge their oil or hang picture on the wall
