This a slightly nuanced question, but bare with me.

So, Flutter, owner of several major brands such as Paddy Power, Betfair, and Fan Duel, are looking to

for every wager made for customers in the state of Illinois. The company claim they are having to do this to offset the cost of operating in this particular state.

My experience in this industry is that there is commonly a lot of uproar when something of this nature is introduced - think of nerfed RTP's. Then other companies follow suit and before long it becomes the norm.

So I am curious that if something similar was introduced into online casinos, would this stop you betting or would you live with it if it meant you could continue gambling?

I think that it would hit those very high volatility slots such as NoLimitCity more that anyone else because low rollers will not go near them. It is also opening up an argument that they are pushing those in poverty and poor into spending more than they can afford.
I'm happy with my 50p Secrets of stones spins but bollix to playing Dead or Alive .90p per spin as wagering jumps from .45p to .90p on that slot

Sounds similar to the 10%, then 9% betting tax the uk used to have which was finally abolished in the early 00's
It is what the market will judge it as. If, they giving better odds then I'm sure it won't be an issue for thier market.
For me, who might spend a whole £1 on a bet..... not going to happen.

No chance.

I'd pay a 50p surcharge on the initial deposit, maybe even £1 on a £20 deposit but not per wager.

Crazy idea lol

I could see an attempt to stick a charge on your deposit, say 1%-5% admin fee.

Or, a bit like how the pot is collected for a progressive jackpot, a percentage of a wager is shaved off each bet.

It's kind of mad how we have got to this point.

It used to be that online had an advantage over land-based, as they would always have lower overheads and those savings could be passed onto customers. However, the never-ending pursuit of ever great profits, combined with some eye-watering tax thresholds in some US states appears to be wiping out that advantage. This hurts players the most IMO.

Quick as a Flash, DraftKings has done the same -

This is for sports betting, just a reminder on that.

My guess is that they waited to see if Fanduel got any blowback, and, because they didn't, quickly moved to add their own admin fee on bets. Don't be surprised if this is rolled out to more States over the coming weeks and months.

Draft kings must be stuck for a few quid
