Jackpot City dodgy advertising

Hi all,

I'm a player in New Zealand and our laws prohibit advertising of online casinos. Even the one owned by a land based operation (but based in Malta) is prohibited from being advertised.

Lately on a popular radio station there have been multiple adverts for Jackpot City casino ending in ".net" as a free gaming website and claims it's "not a gambling website".

To me it's obvious what they're trying to do, and it's advertising their real money site by proxy. They tried the same thing with TV ads before they got pulled down. It's downright scummy and dodgy behaviour as far as I'm concerned, just curious to see what your thoughts are.

Downright scummy is definitely one way to put it lol I've noticed " . NET " ads for casinos they usually start just bang on 10pm I've seen wildz , casumo, neon vegas, and jackpot city. NET they are indeed trying too get one over the customers...out of curiosity which radio station are they advertising on ?

It's a trick the poker operators used in the US to get around the implied advertising ban after Black Friday - since they couldn't advertise the dot com site (because that's a regulated but prohibited gambling site) they spun up dot net sites, often using the same software, but with play money "social casino" offerings instead.

For media that was broadcast internationally (as a lot of poker media was at the time), it meant that US players were funnelled to the play money site, and non-US real money players could be redirected to their respective real money site.

Once these companies introduce a second entity, it adds a lot more confusion to the mix - particularly if one or both entities are dishonourable. People will search the brand and "accidentally" find the real money site, people can forget the extension and type dot com as a matter of habit, or they use the same technical shenanigans above albeit for nefarious purposes.

Or you could be the UKGC asleep at the wheel and allow shady crypto casinos to promote their real money site on football shirts... ?

Interesting, can't see why they would advertise via radio a 'free' site and spend $$ in doing so, unless there was some cross marketing going on, once you sign up. I expect the New Zealand Gambling Commission will no doubt close that loop hole in the near future.
I don't think we technically have a gambling commission, that sort of stuff is handled by our Department of internal affairs which seems rather lackluster. They still haven't banned credit cards from gambling transactions yet despite being petitioned for over 5 years ago.

Obviously their angle is to get people to start typing "jackpot City" with google autofilling the name. Funnily enough the ".com" appears at the top of the list. No ".net" in sight.

The Rock. Advertising during work hours too. Haven't seen any other casinos advertised apart from web ads which is normal.

Is a simple trick... .net site does not need to be in the top Google positions at all. Anyone who plays for free on the .net version will be searching for 'Jackpot City' the next time they'll want to play and will end up on the real money site that ranks anywhere on the planet for their brand name #1.

Those guys there aren't simple Joe's.... search for 'buffalo partners hack' or related, and you'll find a lot of interesting read
