I don't play or have an account here (that I can recall). In fact, I was on the GoneGambling site and if anyone is familiar, pop-ups are part of it (from their sponsors), and this came up. Not like I had tried to log in or anything, so not sure if it was caused/linked because of my account info at GoneGambling (that could tell I was from the U.S.). I almost hesitate to say it is the ISP because I can access anything else related to gambling. But it is somewhat of an "omen" of how things could eventually be

That's from the bingo site itself, not your ISP ;)

How can the site know, however, where I am located? (Keep in mind this was a random popup ad, I didn't select to go there or enter any info). Not worried about it, just curious, though

It's called geotargeting.

The landing page recognizes your IP and displays what it wants people with your IP location to see.

Bryan uses it here too, that's how come US visitors don't see banners for casinos anymore.

Most sites can detect your IP address (which indicates city and state), browser type and language. Like Dom said, this is how I disallow US based visitors to be served casino banners. The main index page looks a bit different for US visitors. No ads - only info.

This is a rant. No apologies. It is what it is.

It brings tears to my eyes and I am very serious about that! Tears of fury, frustration and anger! I am supposed to live in the freest country in the world.

We are being left out of the free market! I thought this country was all about free trade! Is it only for outsourcing of American jobs to line the pockets of the wealthiest among us? Our money is not allowed to flow out of this country only taken from us by government and corporations?

These are dark days and I am ashamed the American people don't wake up. It isn't just about not being able to gamble. I thought we were all about free choice.

We live in a republic which is defined as A political system in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who can elect people to represent them.

Unfortunately, our government has become so corrupt our votes no longer count. We elected Gore in 2000 and Kerry in 2004. Diebold and corrupt election officials delivered these elections to PNAC. If you don't know what that is go look it up. It makes for a good read.

It is all about the MONEY.

Addisyn, I really hate all the recent changes too...who knew it would be this bad this quick. Especially the frustrations surrounding being able to deposit/cash out from Microgaming, which I really miss and has put a dent in my recreation enjoyment and income, somewhat. And they (gov't/some lawmakers) are going about it in such a roundabout way where you almost have to investigate and do trial and error and go through frustrating sessions of "maybe it will go through, try again later," type of thing. I don't know what's worse, trying to dig through and find a way around it by the govt. making it gradually but increasingly difficult to deposit or just stopping it altogether. I guess we can still hold onto hope, as far away as it may seem.
