Is this the norm?

Hey all,

Fairly newish to slots - maybe a few months in - but today I've come across something I haven't encountered before and wonder if this is standard procedure with online casinos...? So I joined up today and took out welcome bonus of 100% plus 100 free spins over 5 days on some nice looking slots. Wager was 35xB. I've seen recommendations for this casino on both here and other sites - but I don't want to say which one I'm referring to at the mo, just in case this is common practice etc...

So I deposited £20, played through my initial 20 FS on Gonzo's Quest and won about £10.. once the free spins were over, I decided to keep going and a few spins in I hit the Bonus Game Free Falls twice in 5 spins. I thought typical using bonus money but hey ho, more to wager with. Then I noticed that my balance which had gone from £50ish to just over £130, said real funds £98 odd, at which point I realised cash was played prior to bonus money. I spoke to live chat, who were lovely and said I could withdraw as long as ID checked out, as I'd been playing with real money, but that I'd lose the untouched £30 odd bonus. Fair do's.

However, although all of my documents had already been approved when I joined (super fast I may add!) and although when I withdrew it said that the payment would be in my account within an hour (hmmm...) , I later received an email saying I hadn't wagered enough to withdraw.

Apparently their terms (which I found 3 links in from the Welcome Bonus terms) are that their min dep of £20 needs to be wagered at least twice before any withdrawal. And this is the case on every single deposit..not just one tied to a bonus.

Is this standard? I've played on many sites including Sky, Will Hill, Royal Panda, VS, Trada, PPower etc and never heard of this? I get the whole money laundering shizzle, but why do other sites like those listed above not have to implement such a thing? It doesn't seem worthwhile to me as a fairly low roller to play at a casino (albeit with a much better site/game selection) if I can't enjoy a cheeky win from a £20 deposit here and there without having to wager £40....

P.S. UK players - which sites do you use most regularly? (Slot wise!!! :icon_twis: )

Thanks xx

Be careful with Bonuses!
It is  crucial  that you understand and agree to the terms and conditions of any bonus that you accept. Most of the complaints that come through our arbitration service are bonus related; it would be safe to say that there are tens of thousands of players who have never complained because they realized after the fact that they did not understand or had never read the terms. Nothing in a casino is free – so whenever you see “free” being used, there are stipulations. It is important for you to understand that.

Please check out our Bonus Section that lists the offers given by our Accredited Casinos. No deposit bonuses, welcome bonuses (AKA sign up bonuses [SUBs]), exclusive bonuses, reload bonuses, free spin bonuses...all this and more!
One time is the norm, but there are casinos that ask you do wager up to five times. That is mostly if they suspect something or for free spins, but two times on every deposit seems well, stupid and unfair but...

..here my guess is that they have that rule because if they are allowing people to cash out before entering the bonus, then they want the players to risk their own money too.

Wagering your deposit a minmum of at least once is very common practice.

One time I had £20 in videoslots and needed it for some extra booze as my cousin landed in for a visit unforseen.

I didn't take into account that I had already made a withdrawal that day, so there would be a £2.50 fee for a withdrawal.

So I deposited £10 and withdrew the £30 and received an Email warning from videoslots about the term, which I was unaware of at the time :(

Anyway, yes it very common, although I have never heard it being 2x your deposit, that seems unfair to me. It is hard enought to wager it once most days :D

And to answer your question, Videoslots is where I play most. How can anyone compete with a casino that processes withdrawals in under 15 minutes in most cases? ;)

Northern Ireland incase you're wondering why I answered when you asked UK :p

Maybe it's just that I've never come across it - I mainly play on Sky and VS and it's just never been an issue for me - the odd £5/£10 deposits and no problem with withdrawing much larger wins (Sky in particular allow loads of deposits/withdraws a day (I think I've withdrawn 5 x in one day from them without question).

It's a shame as I like the site etc... perhaps if the minimum deposit wasn't £20 it wouldn't seem as bad... xx

Lol! I see where they're coming from in terms of depositing and not staking anything etc to stop people taking the p*ss, but as you say, it seems harsh, particularly for low rollers.. I was spending my £90 already ;)

You're UK it's fine - the North makes all the difference :p xx

I think it depends on how big the casino is. The smaller the bigger costs for them with deposits and withdrawals.
I remember years ago how upset we were when a few casinos changed to 48 hours reverse time. The worst part was that their reason for doing so was that we just circled the money :eek2: The fact is...we do :D

Sky is huge so their costs is probably very low.

I'm really not sure how 'big' this casino is. But (and this is probably a big hint) the fact that a feature they have is the ability 'lock' your withdrawals was one I took into account when choosing another to try. Nothing worse than blinking pending reversible withdrawals. xx

Oh and it's definitely on EVERY deposit:

I mean if you really like the casino and are content with making straight deposits (If you do) and having to wager your deposit twice then I mean it's not as bad as the 5x wagering that Tirilej stated she's seen around.

I wouldn't want to deposit £20 and have to plough through £100 before I can withdraw

However wagering through £40 isn't really THAT bad if you are lucky enough early on.

I mean we all wager through once anyway. Yes i did state wagering 2x was slightly unfair. Mainly because I am against having to wager any part of your deposit before being freely able to withdraw.

So if the casino are a good and trustworthy group and process withdrawals hassle free and in under 24 hours, I guess I would be happy with that

Not really too much to complain about imo, not that I am implying that you are incase that gets misconstrued :D

I just know two that have that. Rizk, which doesn't use BS-rules like twice the deposit, and Slotsmillion that probably do :D
Or there are a third I don't know about :)

Well I was about to say...! ;)

I think it will be a case of a once in a while casino, rather than a regular one. I like to deposit small amounts regularly (throughout the day) and larger amounts of a weekend (and/or after a few drinks lol) with the ability to withdraw a portion of wins - without being tied into wagering reqs. I've not found any casino other than Sky Vegas/Casino that works as well for me yet, min £5 deposits, no limit on deposits/withdrawals etc.. I was looking for similar, but with a much larger variety of games and a better loyalty scheme for frequent low rollers... VS is perfect in that respect and the free rolls are a brucie bonus, but I can't get a win to save my life on there ATM! First time I've not qualified for free rolls this week in months! :eek2:

P.S - 5x wagering your own money should be illegal imo !

If you play at a casino that doesn't have a "Lock Withdrawal" option, you can always do what I always do and that is Close your account for 24 hours with the take a break option available under the Player Responsibilty sections

Yes it should! :p

I like to play at Casinoeuro during the week also. If you deposit £10 between Monday-Thursday you are guaranteed a prize on the Weekend. Nearly always it's 20 odd freespins, and gives you a chance at the weekend if you leave yourself nothing to play and end up bored. You can win anything from freespins to bonus cash that of course needs to be wagered.

I once won £50 that left me quiet shocked

They also have a daily deals promo where you get all kinds of other offers when you deposit (usually min of £20) including freespins. Beware you do have to opt in BEFORE you deposit if you ever choose to play there.

If I get lucky with my Deposit que sera, sera. If not I have another chance.

But VS definitely can'y be beaten

Just rushing out, but thanks - I'm a member of CasinoEuro I think!? I'll check them out again tonight xx. I like to know I have something coming for the poor days lol - VS gives me a regular fix on Mondays and Fridays - no matter how small my race winnings/WE booster are lol x
