That tax is on the Casino's winnings. It should be the same for players as it always is/was. No State tax but any single play wins over $700 are subject to Federal tax which you can offset with your gambling losses up to the win amount.

Tax refunds for Canadians

I wonder if Canadians then would get the tax back just as if we had played in a US B&M

In the states, any win of $1200 on Slots or Video Poker requires the casino to report the winnings to the IRS. Gambling losses are tax deductible only up to the amount of your winnings. In in most states, the state withholds taxes from the payout. For example, I live in Texas where we have no state income tax, however, whenever I hit a $1200 or better win in the state of Louisiana a percentage is withheld to cover Louisiana State Income Tax.

Since I am not a resident of that state, I am not obligated to pay State Income taxes in Louisiana. In order to have the withholding refunded to me I must file a Louisiana State Income Tax return as a non-resident. Yes, it is a hassle and they take their sweet time processing the refunds.

Surely our Federal Government has a similar system in place for Canadian residents but perhaps I am wrong. Have you looked in to this?

Chris Christie is really OK--especially for a Republican!

I believe that Governor Chistie has let the cat out of the bag with regard to legalizing I Gaming in most of the USA. There is no question that this bill will have a major impact on the currently convoluted and contradictory I Gaming laws in the USA.

It is no secret that our government is in the midst of a financial meltdown and the assholes in Washington are under pressure to get their hands on additional tax revenue--regardless of party affiliation.

Hopefully, change is on the horizon in the land of the free regarding this issue.

As far as I am concerned, Chris Christie is the Man!

He ran as a Republican but after being elected he is governing as a New Jerseyan. He doesn't care which way the political wind is blowing if he sees something that needs fixing he will fix it. I am a little reluctant to see him possibly run for President, I want him to stay here for a while. He has surely made a few mistakes along the way but he has my full faith and confidence. Most of the people he is pissing off are the same people I want to be pissed off.

Get ready for betting in your jammies, at work, from the kitchen table, or at the beach:

I play in the nude, will I still be allowed to play?

I've been waiting such a LONG time for this to happen!!! I am so happy!!! I think they will say to themselves "why in the world did we wait so long", after seeing how much money they make.

No more running around to stores buying cards, or going through some online processor, getting looks from banks like I am a criminal, etc...a sigh of relief just came over me.

Does anyone know of a time limit? I skimmed the article and saw it could take 6-12 months, but from when? Now?

Will we be playing in a year or so? Hopefully sooner.

I've heard estimates ranging from 4 months to 2 years but I think it's gonna go quick and as far as I know you may be able to play in NJ casinos in the nude now as long as you have at least 1 pocket somewhere with money in it!

4 months would be great!

I bet it will be closer to a year tho. :(

One more question... It says other states will be allowed to play, but when will we find out which states? My luck, my state won't "sign off" on it. We are just now in the running for a land based casino after years and years and years of trying.

All I read was that other States will be able to use the NJ system as long as that other State does not have a specific law against it. The 'When' question is anybody's guess because it's never been done before.

If your State does not let you participate come to Jersey, we got lots of room here. Just make sure you bring a boat, life vest, boots, snow shovel, rock salt, plenty of dough for taxes, a commercial strength umbrella rated for at least 75 MPH winds, and a love of crazy drivers and traffic jams.

My personal feeling is that they are likely to attempt to get online prior to the fall 2013 holiday season, i.e., sometime in September or October.

Reason being that business picks up after summer vacations are finished and kids are back in school. And then there is the end-of-year general festive craziness that can tend to lead to spending on recreational gaming.

I'd think if I was a gaming concern, I'd really try to get online by then.

I would bet Massachusetts will have that law. Deval Patrick is against this I think. (could be wrong)

Yup, used to all that in bold. :D

This was recently increased to $1199.00. Unless i am reading it wrong. Whenever i go to a casino in RL never taxed on anything unless a single win is over $1199.00. Naturally then there comes the reporting to the IRS which if you can show losses by withdrawls you can claim them and not have to pay on the win.
