Horse Racing & Tips Thread

Comp time. But I will open it up to those who do not usually visit this thread via the remarkable thread given that this is the most important meeting of the year to me.
£30 to the person that is able to produce the best placings for two horses in the 16.15 at Cheltenham on the opening day tomorrow-Tuesday.
At least 12 posts before this post and you have to be good looking qualifies for entry.
Your bet is based on a £1.00 bet on the race with two horses getting placed as if it was a real bet in Paddy Power who are basing this bet on 6 places.
If there is a tie then finishing places are based on finishing position that is firstly based on the best placed finisher. If there is a tie I will reward both or all with £30
Good luck all that enter

Any tips for 14-30-cheltenham and 15:05Cheltenham

So far ive gone for Cepage was 12/1 when backed now 20/1 but BOG on that
and Silver Streak 16/1 in the 15:05Cheltenham

Both free £5 bets and long shots,
But I am looking to place some more bets on them races but Not sure who to back

Don't know much about horses or follow them, got £5 free bet so chucked on an acca. I've been to the races once and it was a great day out, ended up walking out even but I had a football acca on that day that paid £750 :). That's my best horse story, sorry!

Here is a write up I did for a whatsapp group of friends all of which take my word for it and place a few of these bets every year. Some win some lose, kind of like life.

Hey guys,
This years opening day has a lot less runners due to the pandemic, I guess it stop Joe Soap and his mates sending a no-hoper as they don't get the day out- totally understandable. Fields(racing numbers not actual fields smartarses...) are smaller but the racing is competitive enough.

Race 1(1:20)
Appreciate It is worthy of his fav tag. Second last year in the bumper, small tiny concern he won't stay up the hill as last year he didn't see it out too well, but not terrible either he was second of twenty odd. At 5/6 I know he is very short for some but it is probably about the right price.
Now Metier has done nothing wrong at 11/2 currently it is very likely he will fill a place if he is no match for the fav.
Blue Lord is a little bigger 10/1 but has a very strong place chance also. Can't see it overturning the fav though as he was third in behind last time.Stiff track here is a big help though. The hill in his favour imo.

Race 2 (1:55)
Shiskin super short at 1/2 but super talented, wins bar an accident imo.
Allmankind is best of the rest and is 5/4 betting without the fav for those who like it.

Race 3 (2:30)
Milan Native at 7/1 PP pay 5 places.
Has had a wind op since last run, taken it very handy this year considering he won the Kim Muir here off 8lb lower last eyar.
I am not sure if this is his target any more with Tiger Roll out though a win here puts him in the picture for the grand national for connections.....

Race 4 (3:05)
Best race of the day the Champion Hurdle.
You all know I admire Honeysuckle, best mare since Annie Power!
6/4 is short for a CH but along with last years winner Epatante has the mares allowance to help.
Honestly if I had a brain I would have backed Goshen around the time it won at Wincanton(was 16/1 for this,at that point)
But even now at 5/1 has a massive chance. With ten runners and PP paying 4 places it could be seen as a shot to nothing.
The other one I fancy though is Sharjah at 8/1 ew. 2nd last year in this and while poor last time out he did exactly the same 12 months ago in the Irish champion ie Bounce Back!

Race 5 (3:40)
When you look at Willie Mullins record in this race it is incredible(Quevega we will never forget)
his jolly here Concertista won the Dawn Run here by 12L last year.
Really dominant since also. Very good favs chance.
At a massive price Minella Melody(twice second to the fav) can outrun huge odds of 22/1.

Rcae 6 (4:15)
This is wide open!

I have picked two against the field but could make a case of a dozen of them.
Zoffanien at 16/1 very good win last time. Tricky Dicky takes the ride. With 6 places im happy to take a punt.
Jeff Kidder is 50/1 for a reason but and it is a big but on a jumping day the horse have heaps going for it.
Only beaten 3L by Saint Sam last time is now a stone better off but 45points bigger, thats a value punt to me!

Race 7 (4.50)
PP go 4 places here again.
The top two in betting Next Destination and Galvin will both stay for sure and priced about right.
I think theres a little value in Remastered at 7/1 very much improved jumping great form just wont want the ground any drier.

So here is my plays for the day make of them what you will.

4 horse accum or win only Yankee
1.20 Appreciate It
1.55 Shiskin
3.05 Honeysuckle
3.40 Concertista
Pays 14.5/1 for the accum on PP (bog on multiples here is your friend)

4 horse ew accum or ew lucky 15/yankee
1.20 Metier
2.30 Milan Native
3.05 Sharjah
4.50 Remastered
Pays 3899/1 for the accum(lol)

Then two small each way singles in the 4.15 as its a 6 place minefield.

Zoffanien 16/1
Jeff Kidder 50/1.

This gives you a bet in all races today good luck guys.

@geordiecolin
Nice comp man. My 2 picks above can be used for your comp too sir!

@cncas2123 good to have you back, I hope you got on goshen at the fancier prices!

Nice bet mate but to enter the comp you need to post two horses from the 4:15 race. You do not need to actually bet on the race :)

And please do not send me a PM with your selection. It needs to be posted in here.

I think it may be a good day for both Rachael Blackmore and Henry Skelton for the each way backers.

My selections for today are

Lucky 31 (x62) Each Way

7. Alnadam

My free bets are on 2:30 Alnadam EW at PP Honeysuckle £5 win at Ladbrokes and my Skybet £10 no lose bet is on Metier £5 EW.

Good luck with your bets today :)

My Lucky 15 today:

Goshen 3.05
Concertista 3.40
Coltor 4.15
Next Destination 4.50

I have backed Metier with Skybet @11/2 for the £10, but Appreciate It is my main bet in that race. I took a short price four timer of Shiskin, Chacin Por Soir, Monkfish and Envoi Allen as they all look like the real deal to me, I just cant see any chink in the armour of any of them.
Didnt get Goshin at big prices, but am on @ 6/1 ew, cant see it not being in the first 3 if the same horse that ran at Wincanton turns up.

I think Pym is overpriced at 12-1 in the second race, so will have an ew bet on that with sky paying 7 places.

@geordiecolin thanks for the comp, i like Coltor and Balko Saint in that race.

Good luck to all today and for the rest of the week, hopefully we can all have a good few days.

Win or lose I am really looking forward to the week ahead. Under normal circumstances I would probably be working there this week while staying with my daughter
(I am a professional prostitute)

Got quite a few bets today, but opened a new paddy power account for the bet £20 get £60 in free bets and done these

1.20 Metier £10 each way
1.55 Allmankind £10 win
2.30 The Wolf £5 each way
3.05 Goshen £10 win
3.40 Whitehotchillifili £5 each way
4.15 Zoffanien £5 each way
4.50 Next Destination £10 win

I think Appreciate It is vulnerable in the first, also got small EW bets on Blue Lord and Grumpy Charley

My two for the comp, thanks @geordiecolin

Zoffanien and Nassalam

Good luck today everyone

I'm a bit confuddled Col. I thought that you already had a Paddy account?

Daughter didn't :D
Anyone thinking of multiple accounts with Betfair/PP be aware they use IE Snare so use a different IP and device, both that have never been used on another account in the group. Or ensure you remove IE Snare first. They are very proactive at blocking multiple accounts and voiding winnings.

Trust someone from Sunderland to be so cunning!
On the phone to one of my daughters as it happens :p

Maybe I should get another PP account opened lol. No think i better not.

Anyway PP do some not bad prices. Some specials are crap odds but some are real good.

Salah was a good bet last night at evens for shot on target.

Finding it hard to decide what to bet on today. Go short priced so called bankers or look for outside e/w bets.

Have got a short priced treble on Appreciate It, Shiskin and Concertista as they were doing a PP special at 8/1 on the treble which is great odds if they win. Just feeling fav will get beat in first and fancy Metier to do it.

Couple more big priced one from me over today and tomorrow

EW Lucky 31 on these

2.30 Weds Saint Sonnet 33/1
4.15 Today Hell Red 40/1 - This was touted as Nicholls's Triumph horse when he won impressively earlier in the season. His comeback run was poor and needs overlooking, but he could bounce back and get a place here.
4.15 Weds Amoola Gold 16/1 - Is 8lbs better off for 2L defeat by favourite Sky Pirate. Is 8lbs better off with Ibleo when beating Venetias horse a neck at Ascot. Was beaten a neck by First Flow when receiving 10lbs (relative marks 138/148) at Ascot. First Flow now rated 166. Is a strong stayer at 2m and sees out his races out really well. Is trained by still-in-form Dan Skelton.
3.05 Today Abacadabras 9/1
3.40 Today My Sister Sarah 50/1.

Tomorrow, win double on Sir Gerhard in the numer (15/8) and Bob Olinger (15/8) in the 1.20.

I'm looking at the fields for tomorrows meeting Col and I can not see your reasoning for backing Saint Sonnet in the 230? Was it a tip?

He has no entry in the next.

You have realistically to hope the two favs win 3.05 and 3.40 and then you have a 40/1 and 5/1 chances in the following race and a 9/1 left in the last race I think.

Not impossible but you really need these two favs win. Good luck!

No, just he fits all the trends for the race and I was looking at something for a big price :)

Top 8 in the weights...✔
Rated 140/149✔
6 or 7 yr old ✔
Less than 10 runs over hurdles ✔
French bred ✔
Didnt win last time ✔
Not run for over 32days ✔
Ran 4 times this season or less ✔

Thats what I was looking at :)

I was looking at Craigeniche in the 230 but I noticed that its usual jockey has chosen another Henderson horse in Birchdale. With 26 runners and 7 places the race does seem wide open

Tom Cannon rode him when he won last time out at Ascot - not sure if he might have a retainer with the owner, but I definitely wouldnt let the jockey booking put you off.
I have heard that Elliott would be shocked if Grand Roi doesnt win that race, though he's getting very skinny now at around 6-1.

I hate changing my mind in case my first choice wins so I will be sticking with Craigeniche. I've just noticed that money seems to be coming in for Blue Sari for that race from 16/1 into 9/1

Well wished I had been backing the short priced favourites today, which I always avoid as one always lets me down.
Just before the first race I took 15/1 (£10) for there to be 13+ winning SP favourites, so at least that bet's still going haha.
3 so far today, be surprised if there isn't 3/4 tomorrow, 2/3 Thursday and 3 Friday. If a couple of the not so short ones come in too then it's got a fair chance of winning.

Nice comp man. My 2 picks above can be used for your comp too sir!

@cncas2123 good to have you back, I hope you got on goshen at the fancier prices!
Wow Ken! at the last I was loading up the calculator to see who's nags did the best! I hope the £30 winnings is just a supplement to a much bigger win?
Last of 7 last time out.
Brilliant tipping. Please send me your bank details via PM :)

I was only on here a couple of days ago saying I shouldn't give tips  Yup backed it. Something just wasnt sitting right with me that there was a stone turn around with Saint Sam. Who finished second. Some of my friends are very happy boys.

Ironically 35mins before the fav had left them down for the 14.5/1 accum I tipped.

I honestly only had a couple of quid each way on it because 50/1 out to 80/1 put me off! Not complaining and I wish to return the generosity @geordiecolin showed so I'll probably run a comp for Gold Cup on Friday or something similar :)

Received! Faster than most casinos

Thanks again and look out guys. Comp will be posted in next couple of days for Fridays racing.

Now I have to try find a winner for the whatsapp group tomorrow. they are never happy lol.
I could do with a few outsiders! Got £1 free bet with ladbrokes, so I'll do an e/w for the day on big outsiders to make it interesting
