I have a €50 charity bet to use today and I landed on Firewater in the 3.25 at Catterick. €25 ew at 7/1.

While i do think Buriram is a solid fav at 4/1. The ground getting heavier wont hurt Firewater at all. I narrowed it down to the two of these in this race. So naturally took the one at almost double the price and carrying 17lbs less. At the back end of last season Firewater was 3rd of 19 in a very decent handicap at Doncaster on heavy ground, also was second last time over C&D.


Note the charity bet is something I do with a friend of mine whenever one of us has a nice touch we provide the other with a bet for their nominated charity.

Hope for a a decent run at least as I told the staff at my selected charity to watch out for it. Would be nice if they get a run for their money.

It's some small few quid for them anyway!

Looking through the rest of the results. I don't see anything crazy obvious I missed that I should have been backing. Its amazing all the meetings aplenty yesterday and today and nothing at all I fancied

probably not having a bet today, as again, the racing isn't great.

I'm not sure how soft the ground is at Goodwood, but if its closer to heavy, then Firenze Rosa has a good chance of being placed. Pettochside is the other I like, loves it here, likes slow ground, if I do have a bet it will be a RFC on these two.

In the big race over at Ireland, Trading Point (3.40) is interesting. Stayed on well to get 5th last time out on heavy ground. However, when I was looking at it, it was around 40/1, now only 16's in most places, and while 16/1 is a good price if it wins/get placed, its not 40's and I think the value has gone now. On the other hand, it could be viewed as a positive money has came for it, although not sure if it's just a market correction as there hasn't been much on Betfair.

I may do a small EW double on them just in case

Not only has this weeks racing been a bit poor but I'm hacked off with the amount of non runners even though it can be expected given the changing weather. 2 of my 4 bets at Newmarket and one in the irish put. Still I'm not doing too badly so far

With the ground being heavy, or at best, soft, everywhere, I think today is one for small stakes.

2.05N Ventura Rebel, half the price it was yesterday, however, that could be down to the non runners, regardless though, as long as there are 8 runners, think its worth sticking in EW multiples. Likes soft, placed in a better race than this recently. I don't think the favourite will like the ground and think Ventura Rebel will beat that one at least :) 9/2.

2.25G Milltown Star, ended last year with good runs over 7f on soft and heavy. Alemaratalyoum has had a lot of money for it due to it liking heavy ground, so not sure why the selection isn't being backed when it's form looks better to me. Happy to be on this one at 11/1 rather than Alemaratalyoum at 5/1.

12.55N Lexi The One shouldn't mind the ground, and think it should get placed. 8/1 4 places

1.05W Love Powerful, has won similar races to this, including one on soft. Top trainer and jockey. 15/2.

I'm not going to back them until a little later and will take any out if there are less than 8 runners. My back up selection in case I have to change one is Sommer Katze in the 4.05R

I really was taken with run two runs back and had excuses last time,still got third.
I cannot see it outside the first three and ladbrokes in shop go 4 places so at 7/2 it's good enough for an ew double.

Sweet Sting 3.05 Wex
Doesn't need to improve a great deal and will be bang there in the finish if the jumping holds up.
Again 4 places with ladbrokes in shop so at 4/1 a perfect candidate for the ew double.

The win part pays a little over 22/1
and the place part(both races extra place) will pay a little over 5/2.
I will feel hard done by if both don't place at least. Especially since I drove to the closest ladbrokes and had to pass a paddy power and boylesports to get there lol.

For a Saturday racing is pretty poor.

Was going to put a lucky 15 on but didn't bother.

Just did what Colinsunderland does and backed a single as the price was better than it should be.

So one bet of day was the max £10 allowed on Regal Reality at 9/2 flash odds in the 3.35 race.
 
2.25G Impressor was a good 2yo, finihsing 3rd in a heavy ground better race than this at Newbury in November. Last time can be ignored as he chased a pacemaker on the far side, that went far too fast. They were the only two over there and they finished next to each other, but well behind the other side. Should be fitter today, in a worse ran than he has been running in, where nothing really stands out, apart from Chairmanoftheboard. Currently 20/1 and think its well worth an EW bet.

2.05P Return Ticket. Currently 11/1, I think this has an outstanding chance to be placed, I would be happy to back it around 6/1, so almost double that means it certainly gets some money on it. The form of his Novice Chases at Catterick and Kempton are both good, both times beaten by good horses. Changed stables since then, and it's quite possible the last race (5th) was a warm up for this. 2 miles, on a flat track, on good to soft seems to be exactly what he wants, so will be surprised if he isn't in the first 3 today. Pobably the strongest bet of the day for me.

3.15P I'm torn here between More Bucks and Red Giant. Red Giant was 33/1 two days ago, 25/1 yesterday now as low as 10/1 (although 11's and 12's most places). Had heavy defeats the last couple of runs, and has the form to win this, but I do think the better the ground, the better his chances, certainly if its more soft than good, I think his chance will decrease significantly. More Bucks doesn't owe me a penny, and I've backed it most times it's ran. On it's best form it would beat these without breaking sweat, 3m seems to be the trip he prefers. Sean Bowen seems to ride better on soft/heavy ground, and is at least, getting a few winners again. However, it's last race was terrible, and its taking on trust if that was just a blip, as his two runs before that were ok. Currently 10/1 which, in a few hours, will either look extremely big, or extremely short.
I'll probably go with More Bucks in the lucky 15, but will probably do a reverse exacta too on the pair.

Really struggled to find a 4th for the Lucky 15, but settled on Sammy Sunshine in the 12.45G. Clearly thought to be ok starting at 2/1 in a 5 runner race, was very green, running all over the place, and would certainly have finished closer if it wasn't for that. Both the trainer and jockey are in decent enough form, and if he has trained on, should be a lot closer today. Opened up yesterday around 14/1, now best priced 17/2 suggests there is some confidence behind him. Don't like maidens, as you can never be sure how the horse is at home, or what others have been doing, but seems to be about the best option of the race to me.

Not one for the Lucky 15 due to it's price, but think Wanaway will beat the favourite in the 1.00 at Deauville, likes very soft ground and think his form is better. Only around 2/1 though, but I would have had him favourite so think it's the value bet.

1.00P Chosen Flame, can't see this getting beaten today, but is only around 6/4. Can't see anything in the race getting close to it though.

In the 2.40P I can't see Imperial Elysian being beaten, and seems to be the horse Paddy Brennan is there for.

Doing a treble on those three.

Thought that was quite funny and unusual the first tv race at Perth.

Favourite falls at 1st fence and unusually the horse jumped every fence in the race and got back up in the run in to win the race.

Think they should pay out as after all you back the horse not the jockey:laugh:

You used to be able to remount, but the rules were changed after some of the traders lost a lot of money on Betfair, when McCoy fell, started walking his horse back, noticed all the other horses fell, took the horse back to where he fell, remounted and won the race. All the thieves laying 1000 on Betfair for a horse that fell were slightly sick that day :D. I got £2.50 matched on it when I saw what it looked like he was going to do, nice £2500 :D

Hollie has a few decent chances again today but nothing seems nailed on. She is getting the pick of spare rides for other yards now so I've taken a small each way Canadian on these to go along with my fancies at Southwell. I intended to take Light Lilly in the 12.35 but hit Equidea instead :(

Gone are the days of 25+ bank holiday meetings, and we are left with poor racing yet again.

2.40S Red Stripes has ran here 24 times, winning 6 and placed in another 12. This is a bit better than the races he usually runs in, but think he should get placed. 22/1 4 places with most bookies.

3.50S Final Legacy, course and distance form is 48221231, this is a slightly worse race than he has won previously, but is also worth noting that when he doesn't get placed, it's usually when there are over 10 runners, today there are 14, so certainly not a banker.

Thats it for me today, small EW double on them, good luck everyone today

Ahh but we are now blessed with the likes of Rice and Peas and Fried Breakfast running in all of those virtual races :p Bank holidays used to mean spending forever working out which meetings/races to bet on.

Calvinist at 7/2 and Court Baloo at 5/1 both at Hexham and Ivy Avenue 7/2 at Gowran.
No screenshot because I did it in a bricks and mortar bookies yesterday afternoon.

Anyway I am not here to aftertime but rather run a little comp to spread the love.

I have picked three races saturday. All decent sized fields.

The three races are:
Saturday 5/9/20

2:50 Haydock
3:05 Ascot
4.05 Gowran

There is a prize for best tipster of €25 (or currency equivalant) winner take all.
The idea is the person has a free punt with the money but it is up to you feel free to just take the cash via EFT/Paypal or I will place a bet for you on Bet365/PaddyPower/Ladbrokes or Boylesports.


Heres how it works.
1. You each have 25quid virtual bank.
2. You can bet singles or cross multiples, whatever you like win or each way.
3. Your limit is 25quid virtual money total.
4. You must bet in every race, be it a single or as part of a multiple.
5. You must use all 25 virtual quid.
6. All place terms are 1/4 odds and under usual BHA place terms (3 places 15 or less runners, 2 places 7 or less runners etc)
7. This is open to anyone who Has posted previous to this post on this thread as its supposed to be a fun gimmick for people who get involved here.
8 Entries must be in by 2:45 Saturrday 5/9/20. DO NOT EDIT YOUR POST AFTER THIS TIME.
9.The winner will be announced at the latest Sunday lunchtime.

7.50C Nature Lover 11/4. Be surprised if this doesn't start at under 2/1, and think it should improve enough to win this race quite easily.

3.00N Rhoscolyn should win this, won his second last race easily making all the running and winning by almost 3l. Ran in a group 2 last time and was soundly beaten, but this is a massive drop in grade. Better race than he won, but they wouldn't have ran him in a G2 if they didn't think he had potential. Only 5 runners, nothing else in the field that looks any better than him, so happy to take a chance at 3/1. Grantley is the obvious danger, but he is up in grade too, so no guarantees he will get better.

3.40S Bit of a wildcard this one. Spring of Love. Trainer (35% win rate in last 14 days) and Jockey (21%) are both in excellent form, and it's the trainer's only runner of the day. The horse won a good Newmarket maiden on it's debut, was going to go for a Guineas trial this season, which didn't go ahead due to Covid-19. She ran in a Haydock listed race at the end of June, was the stable second string, clipped heels early, and didn't really recover. Good draw today and I will be surprised if it doesn't get at least a place here, currently 8/1

I once took part in one of these comps, well similar. I tipped 7 winners from 12 races with the virtual money similar to what we are doing here and made a ridiculous profit.

Not a single one did I back with real money lol
 
Okay decided to try and pick 3 horses Kenji85 thanks.

Then saw i had same first and same Irish horse as Colin so changed the Irish one.

So 3 horses are now.

Couple of longshots

4.35H Glassvegas 33/1 5 Places. Has ran in 3 class 4 races, with form figures of 211. His recent form figures were all in C1 and C2 races, much better than this. Also likes soft. Trainer and Jockey getting plenty of places, worth an EW bet. The main doubt for me is the distance, but think he shoudl handle it ok.

3.45K Arctic Sound 25/1. Another that 'might' get placed or might come last. Last spring was 9/2 for a good handicap (didn't run well but was fancied), much better than this, and finished 2nd in the German Guineas (only beaten a neck). He doesn't usually run very well, but clearly has ability. Has been gelded since his last run, so if that has got his mind back on the racing, he could run well. Very risky bet though. Obviously the price reflects that, but he has won better races than this a couple of years ago.

No write ups on these, just ones I think have a decent chance to make up the Lucky 15 :)

2.50H Calling The Wind 14/1 5 places

4.15A Accidental Agent 20/1 5 places

Dream Of Dreams in the 3.25H has to have a good chance of winning this, I expected around 2/1, so the 100/30 currently on offer seems a good price to me. Going to double him up with Khaloosy in the 1.45 at Haydock, currently 15/8.
