This one always makes me laugh, I saw a documentary on TV recently where the UK-US Pig War of 1859 is still celebrated by the islanders, a carnival with a pig led through the streets wearing both a Union Jack and Stars & Stripes. Eventually the US/UK soldiers sent there decided a good piss-up with beer and bourbon was better than fighting over a pig, especially when the sides had shared the island in a friendly way before hand. Oh yeah, the US won the Pig War too as an international tribunal decided San Juan belonged to the US not the UK/Canada. Not a shot was fired (aside from the one that killed the pig) and I don't know if it was eaten or not.

I used to fish up there as a kid - the San Juan islands in Washington. I was there a couple of years ago visiting my Aunt and Cousin. Here is a shot from the west coast of Decatur island looking towards Lopez island.
