I can't believe this guy has gone this far in politics. Listen how he tells a kid he doesn't know how old the Earth is - that nobody knows - he even tells the kid "here in Texas we teach Creationism alongside Evolution :eek2:

This is 2011 not 1911.

Sure he gets heckled at the end of the video about something else, but his views on science are astounding - and pretty damn scary.

Francisco ayala-Spanish-American biologist and philosopher at the University of California, Irvine, says,

1st aspect- "Evolution-Descent with modification, that living organisms are descended w/changes from earlier organisms. It is in this sense that biologist say evolution is a incontrovertible fact. Virtually everyone agrees with this

2nd- Evolutionary History- traces lineage of organisms back in time to construct a universal tree of life that goes back to a primordial ancestor. This assumes the thesis of common ancestry-that all living life forms are descended from a common ancestor. This is controversial.

3rd- Mechanisms of Evolution- that which explains evolution- genetic mutation and natural selection. This could be called "Darwinism". - Darwins Discovery

Point 1- beyond dispute

Point 2 @ 3 - these are matters of open scientific investigation. W/regard to point 3 in particular. Although some things are known, many things are unknown and merely conjecture, and some things are absolutely unknown".

Philosopher and theologian William Lane Craig responds.-Craig says, "If I could be shown the evidence, that genetic mutation, coupled w/natural selection, was more convincing, he would embrace it. " I have no theological axe to grind"

That being said, I believe that Creationism could and should be taught in school as a philosophy, and that there is not necessarily a diametrical opposition between the age of the earth and the existence of the biblical God.

Just my thoughts on it and thanks Casinomeister for the interesting post:)

Yep, dumber than a box of rocks.

As a Texan, I just cringe every time he opens his mouth. I cannot, for the life of me, imagine why anyone would vote for him for President. He and his good old boy network have just about done the state of Texas in.

As for the creationism/evolution battle, to each his own. Since Mr. Perry is somewhere around my age, he was taught evolution in school, just like I was. However, that chapter in biology was very lightly touched on, as it is now. There are some topics in a Texas school that won't be addressed at any length. Evolution and birth control are two of them. Just not going to happen.

There is an old saying around here which goes like this. "Everytime he opens his mouth, stupid falls out." 'Nuff said about Rick Perry.

Well hell Annie, he'd fit right in with the rest of them then.

I really don't care how old any of them think the earth is, I'm concerned with how they're gonna run our lives and bank accounts this century. :) oh and I don't care how they feel about abortion either cause it's none of their damn business. I have more but by request only. :p

Look. There's no question Rick Perry has the brains of a goddamn halibut. And the fact that they teach creationism in Texas schools should be something to be ashamed of, not proud of. It's right about on par with teaching that Kim Jong Il is a living god, or that line Ahmadinejad delivered last year at the United Nations, when he said there's "no gays in Iran" and the whole General Assembly started laughing. He's probably right, because when guys like him get in control they pretty much kill whoever they want to, and silence the rest. At least they have what you'd call an ethos. Rick Perry doesn't even have that. The guy doesn't believe in anything; he just puts out a constant stream of bullshit where every ten seconds there's a "media friendly" quote that sounds kinda-like what real conservatives or real religious people think. Whatever, buddy. One more reason to home school your kids and throw Texas off the federal tit, hell maybe give the whole state back to Mexico. Jesse Ventura's doing it, I heard. At least if they were Mexican they'd be learning some basic math skills like how to convert metric kilos of dope into ounces, and they'd allowed to gamble online :)

But for all that, I think it's wrong and disgusting for a mother to stand there and tell her kid "ask him about evolution" over and over, in something that's an obviously staged event where she's just using her kid. If I were that kid, I'd feel pretty rotten about my mom if I saw that video ten years later. The mom might be right, but she's a bitch. She should've either taught her son well enough to speak up for himself, or she shoulda got out from behind the boy and asked Perry what she wanted to ask him. It was a cowardly way to go. I don't like it, because when they banned outdoor smoking in my town in California, and we all came out and tried to fight it in the city council, of course there were these people that brought their kids and prompted them to talk about how grampa died of lung cancer and so we had no right to have a smoke on the sidewalk. But the parents were just a bunch of nosy busybodies who were too cowardly to talk for themselves. And I see all that as a symptom of the present American disease of blaming everybody but yourself for your problems. What the hell's the point of free speech if you have to abuse your kid to get a point across to a stupid politician who already knows you're right, but can't admit it because his even-dumber constituency needs to hear something idiotic, while the news media looks on and broadcasts his point of view instead of telling people the goddamn truth?

Not to derail but they're not done with us yet in California where I just paid 8 bucks for my 1 pk. I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up going to prison for smoking cigarettes or going ballistic on those 'busybodies' you speak of. :machinegu :D

He shouldn't have run for President but I moved to Texas in 1982 and have been very satisfied with Republican Governors including Perry. No State income tax even given the economy, home prices in the majority of Cities weren't inflated so we have faired better through the foreclosure crisis, more new jobs created and a better economy then most of the nation. Plus we have some of the best Hospitals in the Country.
I agree he wasn't up to speaking on the public stage, never has been. I would rather he remain Governor anyway.

Disagree that he is dumb. He has different views on certain issues then I do but that doesn't make him dumb. He may appear that way because he doesn't think well "on his feet" and clearly is a poor debater. He could never debate effectively against Obama. Obama good debater but hasn't made the "changes" he ran on. He had nearly two years with no interferance from Republican minority and chose to pass an ill written Health Reform Act instead of using that time and effort on creating jobs and improving the economy. Too much of the money he did spend attempting to improve the economy, create jobs and help homeowners under-water was a waste of the money because the Programs were poorly conceived and implemented.

please. carry on. :)

Unfortunately Obama and the Dems while they held both House and Senate have already ruined our lives financially. Obama has spent more and we have benefited less from every dollar spent then any other President in the last decade. On top of that more and more people are dependant on the Government for their livelyhood. I was glad when the Republicans took the House, not because I thought they would be able to change anything(given a Dem President and Senate) but because atleast the wasteful spending would stop in addition to not raising my taxes in the near future. Unfortunately, the Health Reform Act is already costing our small business with 5 employees more in health premiums(higher then ever seen in 12 month period in last 35 years) and the hidden taxes and regulations are also already raising our operating expenses. Enough said. My Brother and Mother voted for him and now wish they had not. He has appointed the "fat cats" from Wall Street to his Administration and taken the highest dollar amount from Wall Street in his past and present Campaign. I think that is hypocrisy at its finest.

I hope Republicans put all their money behind candidates running for Congress as it will be very effective if we can atleast control the House and Senate. But then again, if Obama is re-elected he will just bypass the Legislative process and Congress as he is already doing. So much for the Constitution, Congress and Legislative process that has been in place for ions.

IMHO

I don't think that Perry will get the nomination. However, just about any one of the Republican candidates would make better economic decisions for this country than what we have now.

Personally I would find it highly entertaining to see Newt tear the "great unifier and orator" from the white house to shreds in a debate if he can do it without a teleprompter that is.

Gotta agree with that. I don't like either of 'em, but Newt's a damn smart guy (and Obama isn't stupid)... I think it'd be good for the country to see some serious debates that didn't look and sound like a cross between "Who wants to be a millionaire" and the run-up to some kind of pro wrestling smackdown. Just for that I hope Newt gets the nomination. Hell, I'd pay good money to see that Lincoln-Douglas debate he's itching for.

Do I like it? Not really.
