Oh gosh...

I just received an email from Global Player which is kinda weird. The email goes like this:

Am I seeing things or is this really from Global Player? Are they really closing down? They just changed their software provider and now they are closing? What's up with that? Hope someone (jetset or meister) could shed some light as to what is happening and etc.

Well, what a shame. These are old-timers, they've been around for quite some time and were a really good non-problematic casino.

Now why can't Crystal Palace or the Virtual Group start sending out the same email

It's true - this press release went up earlier this afternoon:

ST. JOHNS, ANTIGUA (November 28th, 2007) Universal Gaming Concepts Inc, a leading Online Gaming Company for more than eight years, today announced that they will cease operation of their Global Player brands, Global Player Casino and GPCPokerRoom.com on November 30th 2007.

Following a recent evaluation of the current business, the management of Universal Gaming Concepts Inc. decided that it is no longer feasible to continue to operate the Global Player brands.

The current changes in the legal and economic landscape of the gaming industry has made it increasingly difficult for us to compete and retain our market share said Giancarlo Bettini, CEO of UGC Inc. The strategic decision to cease operations while we are still in the position to satisfy our obligations to players, vendors, affiliates and staff reinforces our integrity and commitment to good business practices."

All customers account balances are available for immediate payout. Customers, who have not requested their funds prior to our closing date, should contact Support@global-player.com to have their requests processed manually. Payout requests will continue to be processed until December 30th 2007.

The Global Player brand has enjoyed eight successful years in the online gambling space starting with its launch in September 1999 using its own proprietary casino software and has continued with its re-launch on Boss Medias casino and poker platform in May of this year.

About Universal Gaming Concepts Inc.

Universal Gaming Concepts Inc. (UGC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Universal Gaming Concepts Billing and Customer Support Ltd., Ireland. The company, which is licensed and bonded by the Government of Antigua & Barbuda, has been operating Online since 1999.

Disbelieving what I saw, I emailed them right away asking for an explanation. This is what I got as a response (within 30 minutes as usual). Seems that this email is as real as it gets.

So sorry to see them go. I do totally respect this group of people tho. Even till the last day, they will still pay everything out and not leave anyone stranded.

Hats off to you guys, Global Player!

Hi XXX,

Unfortunately the email you received is correct.

Following a recent evaluation of our current business, the management of Universal Gaming Concepts Inc. has decided that it is no longer feasible to continue to operate the Global Player brands, which include Global Player Casino, GPC Pokerroom, and the Global Player Affiliate Program.

The current changes in the legal and economic landscape of the gaming industry have made it increasingly difficult for us to compete and retain our market share. The strategic decision to cease operations while we are still in the position to satisfy our obligations to players, vendors, affiliates and staff reinforces our integrity and commitment to good business practices.

Until then, we would like to thank you for your time with us and wish you the best of luck.

Best regards,

Elisa

I am so, so broken hearted. I was sad when they shut out US players, but at least I had hope that if things changed for us, that someday, someway, I might be able to play there again.

I never, ever had a single problem playing, winning, withdrawing there. CS was always on top of things, and any queries answered promptly.

To the folks at Global Player, I am truly sad to see this happen and wish you all the very best.

^^^^^^^^^^

Mousey's post could have come straight from my keyboard. I feel the same way. I really missed Global when they shut out the US players. A class act closing their doors what a shame.

It doesn't affect me one way or the other, but that's very short notice. What happens to people who had money in their account but are on vacation for the next 1.5 days?
They'll be able to contact the casino via email or phone, and the casino will manually make the withdrawal. I've spoken to them over the phone, and yeah - it's a bummer.

I am sorry to hear about Global Player closing. It is a quality casino, and one of only two casinos that offers Boss Media single-deck BJ. Several of the other ones that used to also offer single-deck BJ also have a poor history. For example, Pharoah's and Player's Club became Microgaming white labels a few months ago.

Global Player!

Maybe the Virtual Group will send a similar e-mail to all players soon but will extend their closing date for 3 months so that you can make a last-ditch effort to win from them. You know what to expect, wouldnt you?

This just in from the casino:

Hi Everyone:

It is sad but true. Global Player will cease to operate its casino, poker, and affiliate program as of Friday, 30 November, 2007 11:59PM.
Players need not worry about receiving their monies, however, because they will have full access to their accounts up to closing time.
Thereafter, they will need to contact the Boss Media Support Dept (support@global-player.com) to have their withdrawals processed
manually.

Affiliates can expect to have their settlement reports run on Monday, December 3, 2007. Payments will be approved on that day, and they
can then login to their WebDollar account, as customary, to make their final withdrawal. All Affiliate accounts will be enabled up to December
31st to make the process smoother.

One thing you can bank on is that all accounts (whether Player or Affiliate) will be paid in full.

We really did have a great run for the last eight (8) years, an industry milestone by any standards. We learned and grew as a Team. We
solidified some great relationships. And, we are confident that, although the show has come to an end, we will all take the best experiences
out of this situation and turn it into something positive.

Take Care Everyone and ALL our best wishes for the holiday season!

The Team at Global Player

Sad to see them go. They've always been a pretty class act and standard by which others were measured. I remember once I had forgotten some money in my account and a year later they contacted me about it and kept reminding me. It was a small thing, but nice of them too.

It's good to see that they're committed to paying the players out ... and hopefully that funky deadline of theirs doesn't complicate things.

I just got the same e-mail - then saw this thread.

I agree it is sad as they were a very good little outfit. :(
The loss of the US market was obviously the key to their downfall, but I was a little surprised at this announcement just a few months after they switched to Boss Media (not a good move in my opinion).
I have to say though that their website after the switch was extremely poor & unprofessional and maybe this even contributed to their fate...?

Oh well, what can you do. I wish all their helpful staff the very best!
KK
