At the moment, we are updating some of the bells and whistles here, and one construction zone is the "reputation" section.

Instead of being able to add and/or subtract rep points from members, everyone (except the mods and me) can only add to people's reps. I think this adds a more positive vibe to the forum - if you feel members are out of line, just report the post and we'll look into it.

We will be implementing an awards and achievements program within the forum which I hope will be up and running soon. This will not only incorporate the rep system, but many other things as well.

CM why is your power so low at 15?

Wow I'm nearly twice as powerful as you! Well in my dreams at least.

BTW I give good rep.
My rep power, as well as the other mods, is set a 15. This way we won't be accused of abusing our power. If it was figured with the standard calculation it would be +infinity :D

Luckily my deviation is non standard so I am not feeling your power right now :D

BTW I was not comfortable with your waterboard reference yesterday. Hard to explain why. I know it was meant in jest but at the same time I felt uneasy about it.

Really?

I'm pretty sure Bryan didn't actually mean fraudsters are waterboarded.

If you can't explain your objection to the word "waterboarding", then it can't seriously offend you, so why mention it? Sorry, but I think you are being a bit precious here about one word (waterboarding).

Nifty - the reference was to trollers not fraudsters. You seem somewhat obsessed with fraud!

Re waterboarding - it's just unpleastant and not a cool thing to say I think. Do we really need this in 2011?

OK Nifty I get it but not funny IMO. Actually quite sick.

Trolls - I stand corrected.

Obsessed with fraud? Possibly. It bothers me that there is so much of it, and that there are websites/forums that actually encourage it (or at least tacitly condone it)....I think you know what I mean don't you?

Waterboarding is just a word. What is unpleasant and uncool about it? What has 2011 got to do with it? I'm struggling to see what offends you. What next? We can't say "murder" or "kill" or "death" or "banana split" in case someone equates it with something negative in their lives? Honestly DG, just move on...there was nothing in it.

What do you "get"? What is "quite sick"? I would have thought calling someone "quite sick" is far more offensive than someone typing "waterboarding"....quite hypocritical in fact.

Anyway, apologies to everyone for the derail.

Nifty if you mean BeatingBonuses then you are quite wrong. The guy that runs it Aka is not into condoning fraud atall. However it's fair to say there are a number of multiple accounters on there I'm sure. Believe me it bothers me as much as you.

The waterboarding thing is interesting. A couple of weeks ago a football team over here Arsenal suffered a huge defeat 8-2 to Man United and a pundit described it as a 'holocaust'. A ton of complaints came in and he had to issue a very public apology. At the time I found it almost funny but now this waterboarding thing has come up I am finding it a lot less funny.

Re the waterboarding - there has been quite a lot in the news these last few days in the UK about our role in extroadinary rendition and torture. Just don't think it's something to joke about really.

Re the fraud remark - I thought you were accusing me of being involved in fraud. Guess I jumped to the wrong conclusion over that for which I apologise.

@ Nifty - please lighten up a little. DG was merely making a comment about how he feels about a word. Nothing to beat someone up about.

Waterboading was used in jest on my part. I'll make a change to foster a more peaceful, caring forum. :D

Here:

1.14 - No Trolls. From Wikipedia: "A Troll is someone who posts controversial and usually irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion." Trolls will be slapped upside the head, and their accounts will be permanently disabled.

I can see where DG is coming from on this, if we use those words as if they mean nothing then the acts themselves become less serious in our minds, joking matters. But they aren't joking matters.

Someone said you can judge a society by how it treats its children and its prisoners. If waterboarding is a joke then the society that thinks so has entered a very troubling moral grey zone.

Ahhhh, jeez - aren't we getting a little too sensitive about words - it's perhaps a reflection of a more caring and politically correct society, I know but some of it can get very wearing imo.

Civility, yes...but let's be reasonable about this stuff.

... some of it can get very wearing imo.

Also very true. As with so many other things in life I think it probably wise to look for a reasonable balance. In this case that might be a matter of being sensitive to the issue but not getting one's knickers in a twist over the occasional reference here and there.

While I'm quite okay with no rep points being deducted when someone is neg repped, I hope the ability to express dissatisfaction with a post and make a comment will remain.

It's something I've seldom used, but there have been a few posts in my time here that I have.

Reasonable - that's a good word but like 'common sense', has become rather unpopular these days.;) I was at another forum the other day and used 'kickass' in my post. Didn't even make it to the page; came out "kick***" and I wasn't using it in a negative way at all. I never had that happen before. Next time I will use only one s and I bet it wont catch it. lol I do feel however there's only one use for Holocaust. That was just cold relating it to a football game.

REPUTATION

A wise old man told me once that reputation is the fastest and easiest way to make other people happy that they met you, and make yourself proud from their happiness.Sweet little reputation lie that others gave you, will make you believe that they are really happy...

Well Nifty I promise to never do that again.:D

Anywhoozle. I think that reputation is a great thing, but it doesn't make a huge difference on how I feel about a poster. I am looking forward to the upgrades and what they have to offer.
