Recruit 'em young I say....
It's not like the amusement arcades of the 80s and 90s did us any har... oh wait, it caused a generation of gamblers and addicts didn't it...

It's a step in the right direction of course, if they can't target the adverts properly then they need to pull them. Although telling that the football clubs themselves should be taking a lead here and shirked their responsibility - not only promoting unregulated sites that are illegal in their home jurisdiction, but stalling out and then waiting a further 4 seasons (2026) to enact it!

Ah yes the 80's. Amusement arcades, Snooker and Darts on the tv, with players downing pints and smoking fags. Bill Werbeniuk splitting the back of his trousers at The Crucible when going to take a shot on the green baize after having consumed half a dozen pints. Those were the days :D
World Snooker presents the holy trinity of unhealthy adverts - Tobacco companies (almost every year of 1969-2005), Gambling companies (2006-2022) and... er, online car retailers (Cazoo, 2023 onwards) 🤣

That would mean he'd only just got started and was in the first frame. Renowned for having 20+ during a day's session.

Are you old enough to remember this hilarious darts sketch from Not The 9 o'Clock News?

'Big' Bill was certainly a character, but back then in Snooker and Darts they all were. How times have changed, 40 years ago, so called sportsmen lol could get pissed up on booze and smoke packets of fags live on tv in front of an audience of millions whilst 'competing' :D

Now we are moaning about whether A N Y Bookie can be displayed on a football shirt.

Did he have a bottle attached to his ballbag to piss in or something? In my day I could usually play well if getting near the double figure mark, but jeez, what an absolute mad man :)
It was also not unknown for Big Bill to let out the occasional rasping fart when bending over the table.

No wonder he died of heart failure at the relatively young age of 56.

But back to the original point of this thread. The gambling industry has not done itself any favours and no wonder perceived over regulation is happening as a result.

The flip-side is that those players which enjoy playing online and do so in a responsible and controlled measure, do not want to be subjected to intrusive sow checks and the such like. Hence either stopping playing online altogether, or taking their chances with the shark infested pool of ‘offshore’ operators

I'm surprised the guy didn't spontaneously combust.
