Gamblers from Afghanistan

Since i have registered at quite a few casinos (mainly MG) these past 2-3 months the following annoys me a little: When asking in what country i reside, i have to scroll all the way down to the United States. And better be careful that i don't inadvertently hit US Outlying Minor Islands (or whatever they are called). Because that mistake would really mess things up when i want to withdraw to Neteller. And who's on top of the list? Yep, Afghanistan. Now, i ask you how many gamblers from Afghanistan do the casinos get? One? Five? Any at all?

I understand these lists are in alphabetical order but still . . . why not put your biggest markets on top: United States and U.K. (whose residents also currently have to scroll to the lower strata of the country list). Seems so bureaucratic to persist in a rigorous alphabetical order when catering to your biggest markets would make more sense. There are quite a few pokerrooms that put the US first on the list (if i recall correctly) but i haven't seen this at any of the casinos i registered.

This is not a major thing by no means, but it just would be a nice little touch to make things just a tad easier.

I am not too sure but for about a third of the many casinos that I have registered in,they either have the USA at the very top or they are defaulted at USA for the place of residence. The scrolling at MG casinos is relatively quick (takes only a couple of seconds to reach USA). Wait till you try playtech. Scrolling down or up gives you bumps all the way.

I get around the long scroll to the US by first typing a U in the country field - this takes you down to Uganda -- then it's just a little scroll to United States.

You have to concede that other countries don't hold the US in the high esteem that we Americans do. Probably exactly how Americans feel about Afghanistan, et al.

Ha! This prompted me to check the geographics of this site. I've been running stats here since November 1998, and here are the visitor stats for some of the more obscure countries:

Pakistan 44
Syrian Arab Republic 15
Kazakhstan 15
Kyrgyzstan 5
Uzbekistan 4
Turkmenistan 2
Iran, Islamic Republic of 2
Uganda 1

No Afghanistan. Boo hoo :(

Hey Bryan,

Are these stats related to the number of visitors or only the number of visits which will be entirely different. I know it would be very tiresome but is it possible to have the stats for all the countires. Would make for quite interesting reading.

Yeah, a fair amount. They're inbetween Norway and South Africa.

These are unique visitors - but on the main site, this does not include the forum which gets sometimes differing traffic. :D

I totally hate having to wait those extra seconds before I can start relaxing ;)

Thanks for the tip.

I don't see why everything has to be viewed in political terms. Twice i mentioned that players from the US are probably the biggest market for most sites, with the exception perhaps of some UK sites.

Interesting stats, CM. Thanks for posting these. Just curious, how many visitors from China have you gotten? China is a nation of gamblers, so presume quite a few if their Gov't isn't restricting their surfing.

LOL! The number of times I have almost become Ugandan ! :D

However, one thing that really, really irritates me with MG is that when putting in the country as UK, it then wants to know what state you live in. State? STATE?

I live in England - a small, but perfectly formed country! :p Not a state in sight.

Poodle Blair may be doing his damndest, but he hasn't signed the UK up to be the 52nd state of anywhere just yet...

And I don't like when US or UK is at the top. Because I also use "U key typing" method to scroll down to my country - Ukraine. And this doesn't work with the USA at the top ;)
