Couple more casualties of the recent UKGC changes...

maxxxcasino.com - One of the first licensed sites, unknown to most! New registrations disabled, existing players can log in and cash out

reelwinscasino.com - Barely started trading, now closed to new players and gameplay. Existing players must log in before 17th May to withdraw ( CM Grey Zone site - @Casinomeister )

whalegaming.com - Members only casino and sportsbook - whole site (and sister sites) completely vanished without a trace

theritzclublondon.com - You needed big bucks to play here, but closed with immediate effect!

Why is it the UKGC's fault? If a business can't survive being taxed and regulated when it's selling a highly addictive product that provides no societal benefit whatsoever, maybe it shouldn't be in business at all.

Just a thought.

adictive, granted
societally speaking, the benefit is a release and entertainment (arguably)
you might as well say CM and bars provide 0 benefit

think books - I might read up on on temporal mechanics and quantum string theory, but I read dystopian fan-fiction and watch trash tv...the benefit is to me to unwind and for social cues for interacting

Oh for sure I'm not saying 'BAN THIS SICK FILTH' or anything like that, I enjoy a bit of slotting as much as anyone! However, we have to be cognisant of the fact that gambling can and does cause massive issues for many people, with fallout that impacts on their family and friends as well.

Regulating it properly is essential IMO. For sure the UKGC aren't getting everything right, but they're essentially trying to tame the wild west here, so it'll take a while to get there.

For example they're now looking at reversible withdrawals, dunover suggested that the figure on reversals can be anything up to 35%, which is shocking. I'd be delighted to see reversible withdrawals made illegal, they are the worst kind of scummy, predatory practice IMO, and it's quite clear that casinos won't jump on this one, they'll need to be pushed.

that's a hard one, that
imagine being in a B and M, hit cashout ticket from a machine, security escorts you to the door, says 'ty, sir, have a nice night' :eek2:

illegal no. but I think every casino should have a flush and lock-out feature

Oh not the old some people get addicted so everyone should suffer argument, if we all stuck to this rule we wouldn't do anything,we wouldn't have relationships as some people get addicted and stalk people, we wouldn't eat as some people get addicted to foods etc.

There are procedures in place for people who get addicted you cannot ban everything because some people cannot control themselves you can regulate but saying it is because of the few should not mean the majority cannot enjoy themselves.

ah yes regulate regulate and regulate age old solution that has proven time and time again to work .

(you cant regulate stupidity "Ricky gervais")

But it's not the few though is it. The UKGC and government know they fucked up by basically deregulating in 2010. It meant a flood of online operators appeared overnight and they didn't give a shit about responsible gambling. This was down to Labour at the time. Now it's being recognised that by removing a lot of red tape they have a complete crisis on their hands. Even the lowest estimates put the number of problem gamblers in the UK at 600k with a further 2m plus "at risk". They had to do something, it's not everyone paying for 10 people who can't handle it. To be fair to the UKGC they have implemented what should have been in place for years. Casinos should have been verifying players from day 1 before anything was deposited. The bigger and better operators will survive, the shit will be cut away.

And what defines a problem gambler? Someone who places one bet on the Grand National a year and nothing else will be classed as a problem gambler to some people, you only have to mention to people you play on a casino site and suddenly some faces drop and the eyebrow rises and it's "oh you like to gamble do you?"

I wonder how many of the 600k are actually addicted problem gamblers and not just people who like the occassional bet but the snowflakes have told them they are addicts.

Yes of course the rogues need sorting out no one should be robbed or swindled or forced into gambling more but once again we have the snowflake generation finding something to ban.

Australia is a prime example of this.

I would imagine the packed GA meetings in almost every town in the UK might be a good indicator! The estimated 200k that have signed up to Gamstop. The government's own estimates, the exclusion numbers, the high number of criminal cases. It's not snow flake stuff, gambling addiction is destructive. The whole thing was opened up and there were huge incentives to gamble. The games now are more addictive than they ever have been. These changes had to happen.

I think they handed out way too many licenses. Especially with all those white labels. I would go for quality over quantity.
