Fifa World Cup 2014 Brazil - Here we go!

Still a bit dissapointed for the Dutch not reaching the final, but so proud to be a dutchman after the 3-0 win against Brazil.
Also so proud as a Feyenoord fan at Martins Indi, de Vrij, JanMaat, Clasie, and all ex-Feyenoord players van Persie, de Guzman, Vlaar, Kuyt and Wijnaldum
I will be cheering for Germany tonight, I am positive they will beat Argentina.

As an Englishman I will be supporting Germany, who have now reached more finals (8) than any other nation but have a poor winning rate (only 3 of the previous 7.)
I remember the 2 consecutive finals of 1986/1990 where the same two sides played. 1986 a classic where Germany recovered from 2-0 down to level at 2-2 before a late Argy winner and one of the Argies was Hose Luis BROWN a player of British heritage who scored....:)
1990 was the final of disappointment where Italy the hosts and England were beaten in the semi-finals much to the dismay of the football world where the romantics wanted the hosts Italy to play an exciting England side with the young star Gascoigne in the final.
Instead we had the worst final ever, a dull tedious game where Argentina had 2 players sent off and Germany scraped past them with a 1-0 win coming from a penalty.
So, will Germany become the first European side to win in S.America? I hope so.

Military defeat by Britain key to World Cup success!

BEING beaten by Britain in a military conflict is the secret to winning the World Cup, it has been claimed.
Finalists Germany and Argentina have both been defeated by Britain in wars, a blow which may have spurred them on to sporting success.
Military historian Tom Logan said: “In 1945, Germany waved the white flag. Nine years later, they’ve won the World Cup.
“Similarly, in 1982, Britain’s forces ejected Argentina from the Falkland Islands. Four years later, in 1986, Argentina lift the trophy. With Germany as finalists, wouldn’t you know.
“Humiliation on the battlefield at the hands of Tommy Atkins seems to act as a great motivator to these nations.
“Italy, there’s another one.
“Because Britain is directly responsible for these nations’ sporting triumphs, it is entirely fair and legitimate to say that whenever they ‘win’ we are the real winners.”
Logan believes that perpetual World Cup bridesmaids such as the Netherlands could take a leaf out of Germany and Argentina’s book.
He continued: “Fabricate a pretext, stage a seaborne invasion of the Yorkshire coast only to be briskly annihilated by our troops, and you watch within the decade they’d be World Cup winners if Afghanistan or Iraq haven’t pipped them to it.
“It’s just a shame we haven’t had a civil war in a while. Otherwise we might score some goals too.”

Only a few Houres ... i am very nervously. :o

Yes I can see why you are nervous. Such a special event and then a final.
When Germany wins you will remember it for the rest of your life.
When they lose you will remember it too, I still remember Robben missed chance against Spain in the final of 2010 :(
But I am positive Germany will beat Argentina easy. Good luck!

I'm actually rooting for Argentina to win this one so hopefully Messi will step up and show us why he is one of the best in the world. Not a fan but I have a few small punts on Argentina + to see some goals in this match. Most of the world seems to be on Germany and low scoring so atleast the odds are juicy :p

Either way I hope we'll see an exciting match and not a brutally defensive one like the Netherlands-Argentina encounter was. Also keeping my fingers crossed for a good performance by the referee Rizzoli

Now it's done, thank you Benedikt :D

Was rooting for Germany, because they were the best team in the tournament (and I had a Holland, Toronto FC and Germany treble on - lost the bet because the final went to ET). Wasn't a classic final but wasn't the worst match I've ever seen either.

Would love to know how Messi won the golden ball/player of the tournament award, personally thought Muller or Rodriguez were more worthy of the accolade.

Congratulations Germany, worthy winners.

Rodriguez should have got the Golden Ball to go with his Golden Boot. I'd have had Muller a close second because even when he has been quiet, he has still been dangerous.

Personally, I think Messi got the Golden Ball for two reasons 1. Because Rodriguez and Muller had already won some "hardware" and 2. A rather transparently and laughably obvious marketing move by FIFA. Even Maradona has come out and said that Messi did not deserve to win the award. And Maradona likes and rates Messi highly.

I have to say Germany rode their luck a little bit in the final during normal time. Argentina did have some really good chances, even without Di Maria in the line up .But Argentina committed the same sins as the Dutch four years ago by not putting them away when they came. And you just kind of knew, Germany is gonna get a chance and bury it. Which they did. And it was a superbly taken goal that won the trophy.

Congrats to the Germans on a well-deserved victory. Now the question is...can they emulate France and Spain by winning the Euros two years after winning a World Cup? Hard to bet against it.
