Okay we all get those annoying texts/cold calling etc, regarding PPI, I normally ignore them, however, the latest SMS has a specific amount they have stated, in my name - £2308.34 that they are waiting to pay me, how do I stand legally with this?, as they have mentioned an amount. an amount in my name, then surely they have to honour this don`t they?.

It's just a different kind of bullshit. They pluck an exact figure out of their arse to make you think this is actually legit. They can have no idea until you have given them your banking an loan details. All they have now is your name and number.

You should try and find out the name of the company and report them. Because they have used this exact figure, this moves into the realms of fraud, as in "obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception". The deception is giving you the impression that they have already investigated and determined an exact figure you can get, and the "pecuniary advantage" is their fee, which they would not get if they had simply told you they could help you reclaim any PPI due to you.

The most annoying thing is that it is UK companies, and solicitors too in some cases, that have stooped this low. Further, they have resorted to lies and fraud in order to get business, as well as make them hard to trace.

The authorities have resorted to merely collecting data, but they may eventually get enough to come down hard on some companies, although it may be too late for those who got scammed.

One way to scare the scammers is to ask for their license number, as by law they must have one, and it must be available to anyone for checking. I did this to one of them, and after faltering a while (off script panic) he just hung up. Not before I tricked him into revealing his company's name, which went straight to trading standards.

ppi texts

i have had same texts but with varying amounts,on one i sent text back interested,when they phoned back they asked for my address i siad you must have these details surely to which the response was for security so i said i will give first line you give second line etc the line went dead i wonder why.i have never had ppi because i have been self employed for over 30 years and it does not cover self employed.

thats the one rocky thankyou , there are some different ones but pretty much do along the same things although ive got a few myself & being self employed theyre not worth the paper theyre written on )
