On the 30th October I will be taking part in a sponsored Fire Walk to raise money for Dorothy House who provide Hospice Care for the terminally ill in my local area.

This will involve me walking through 1000 degree Fahrenheit coals, with all monies raised being used to support Dorothy House in my local area of Wiltshire, Somerset and Bath.

Should anyone wish to support me I have set up a Just Giving page where you can do so.

If you would like to take pity on my feet and sponsor me, my Just Giving page is here

- All monies donated goes direct to Dorothy House.

Photographs of the event will be posted on 31st October.

Many Thanks

Hi All,

Just a last minute appeal. Tomorrow night at 7:30pm I am taking part in the Firewalk. So far I have raised £750 for our local hospice Dorothy House which is superb. But it would be great if any of the forum members here could sponsor me. Every pound raised helps and goes to a very worthy cause.

I will upload photographs of the event late tomorrow evening and hopefully of my feet which don't get burnt!

To sponsor me, you can donate via my Just Giving page here:

Many many thanks to everyone that sponsored me for this evening's firewalk. It was great fun and I also managed to raise a superb £1108 for Dorothy House who perform a great service to my local area.

Below is video footage of my walk.

Did you see what those coals did to your eyes

I only heard about this thread today through Bryan's pm, can people still donate mate?

HA HA. Yes I believe people can still donate after the event, the Just Giving Page is owned by Dorothy House and is open ended. Total raised now is £1158.47.

Really pleased with all the support, many thanks to the several members of Casinomeister Forum who sponsored me, it is really appreciated. 44 people did the walk in all last night and over £5,300 was raised in total.

woohoo! Webzcas, you raised a full 1/5 of the total donations. WTG

I have always wondered about these firewalks.

What happens if someone suddenly stops in the middle of it...or just stumble and fall :eek2:

Well done Webzcas and a great reason for donating:thumbsup:

I had a look at the page, but found it hard to figure out how it worked.

When I did finally figure it out, it seemed to lead me down an endless series of new screens completely devoid of the information I wanted BEFORE giving out my personal details.

I really want a proper explanation of the whole procedure BEFORE I enter a single piece of personal information. 3 screens in, it still hadn't told me anything about HOW the donation would take place, such as cards accepted etc.

As this is a generic service for many charity events, the opaque process could be putting many people off at various stages of the process, with the actual donation not materialising.

Me and a lot of my colleagues did raise funds for them last year.

They use the same way to process donations from people and it is all safe and secure as you send your info through an encrypted connection.
Also they do not store your personal info or share it with others as far as I know.

So I bet you are fine Vinyl. :p:thumbsup:

That's all very well, but the button says "donate now", and so I don't expect to have to go through a dozen screens before I am even told what methods can be accepted. The methods accepted should be the FIRST piece of information given, as this is key to whether there is any point in proceeding any further.

To me, this is an unknown web service, so I take any promises that it is "safe and secure" with a pinch of salt. It's what phishing relies upon - people blindly trusting that what the site claims is true.

We have already had a scam "please donate to me" thread this year, and it was people asking questions and digging deeper that showed that it should not be taken at face value.

Trust you to find a problem with it!
Yes, 2 or 3 quick pages to go through, they only asked my CM ID dunover, an e-mail addy for the receipt, another box to tick 'gift aid' so the donation increased by 25% over what I gave and boxes to decide who I wanted to contact me if anyone. Then it was a simple paypal button which is secure, as it would be if I had wanted to pay by card.
The only stage at which you could possibly give sensitive info (if you didn't use paypal which is 'sealed') is the third party payment processor. The charity has no access to that info. Check the terms.

I don't remember having to go thru more than 2-3 pages. I used my reg. debit card and got a receipt almost immediately.

If I don't have a problem giving my info to a faceless casino in BFE, certainly not going to have a problem giving my info to a charity endorsed by a fellow CM member.

I donate all the time thru various websites like this. Never had a problem.
