I just received an email from AllJackpots casino

Dear ****,

We haven’t seen you here at All Jackpots in nearly a year and would love to have you back.

In accordance with our terms and conditions, if you do not log in with your username, ****, and play within the next seven days, a €5 maintenance fee will be deducted from your casino balance on July 6, 2014.

Please note that you will be charged an additional €5 maintenance fee, to be deducted from your casino balance, for every 30 days that your account remains dormant.

If you have another active All Jackpots account, please contact us to ensure this fee is waived. Otherwise, play or make a deposit and no fee will be incurred.

Sincerely,

*** ****

Is this a common practise amongst casinos? As far as I am aware I requested the account closed a year ago and have zero balance. Would they have the authority to take this money directly from a card I have registered there?

To be honest I find it pretty disgraceful that they can get away with doing things like this, particularly as they are an accredited casino here. Is this how things work across the board??

It is normal. Almost all casinos have that in their T&C's.

If your balance is zero then they can't and won't take anything.
If your account is closed then I don't see why they have sent an email at all.

Yes,many casinos do this. But since i am did not have any money left in such cases, they can take even 1.0000000 fees, i do not care :p

No worries, they can't take what isn't there..
I have seen these type of rules before, they are in place for certain uncommon instances.
There is supposed to be a paragraph stating that this only goes for active real money and/or bonus funds (probably bonus funds expires much sooner) and in no way would they be allowed to charge your card or bank.

And even if they would, if you really requested an account closure, then you could always fall back to that:) but i don't think that will be a likely scenario. However, it might be annoying to receive such mails or promos at all, so you could reengage with management to have them close your account promptly, and this time definitely.

I don't know off the top of my head if they are accredited and/or have a rep here, but if so i 'ld contact them here too.

Edit: see, better give short and concise answers like the above posters or you will always find someone has said what you were typing (slowly) in the meantime :p

Yes, They are allowed. But if you do not have any money in the account they cant take any. And it wont turn into a negitive balance either.

The first time I came across this was at Party Poker many years ago. It appears to be quite a common thing though. Many casinos do this these days.

If you have nothing in the account though then they will not deduct anything. They will not and cannot deduct anything from your bank card or any other registered deposit method. They do not have the authority to do that and I have never read of any terms and conditions that state they can. So I am pretty sure you can relax on that one.

My concern lies with the second point. "If you have any other accounts with us". Seeing as it is forbidden to have multiple accounts with the same casino at pretty much any casino out there (excluding certain groups of companies of course), then that sounds a bit trappy to me. It is perfectly possible that someone could have opened an account, forgot all about it and opened another one. What if they realise that it is that account and they inform them of this? Doesn't this put the players account balance at risk of confiscation? Seems a tad naughty to me. Sure it's a breach of terms and conditions etc, but I would hope that some discretion is shown in those circumstances? We're only human after all!

Yes, yes. it's the old 'dormant account maintenance fee' which most casinos apply. Pointless, as unless you've fled the country or gone to prison you'll have emptied your account anyway. The fee is removed from any positive balance, and CANNOT be deducted from your linked payment method, so don't worry. I presume zero-balance accounts don't incur any costs anyway which is why they can't make them negative under this term.

Yep alot of site with theses rules, Will not affect bank in any way, I think it was abit worded wrong, (play or deposit) should of said just log in,

Anyway I would not panic but just goes to show if you closed account there why still emails?

The dormant account fee will only come out of any balance, they can't just start charging your credit card a fee, don't worry about that. It's possible that the email was sent by error - but just out of curiousity I'd contact support or try logging in to that account just to make sure there's no balance in there, it seems strange that they would bother sending a mail if the account is empty. I've had casino accounts sit empty for years without ever getting a mail about it.

Notice that the message says for you to 'play' not 'deposit' so it seems like they're saying that there are funds available to be played. Wouldn't it be nice to log in and find a nice $500 that you forgot about? ;)

Yes it would have been nice - unfortunately it was only £0.18 instead!! Thanks anyway to everyone who has replied with useful info about this matter.
