I played at a casino this week and my debit card needing updating I deposited and withdrew £100 I was fully expecting the casino to ask me for up to date ID with debit card photos etc but no they just gave me the money back after the reverse withdraw period.

I thought casinos operating in the UK now were obliged to ask for up to date details?

Depends on the casino.

But there has never been a law where you had to send photos of debit cards that is just something the casinos ask for. The bookies sites you can just remove old cards and add new ones or update details and they never ask for copies of your bank card.

When my debit card expired at VS I was asked for copies of the front and the back before I could even request a withdraw so assumed most casinos were going down the up to date ID route.

VS has always done that. Several of these foreign based casinos do all that. It is the reason i only ever use Neteller for these casinos and only use debit card in likes of Coral WH etc. as could not be arsed with the hassle of verifying cards and bank statements etc.

It's not just new customers. Anyone they have has to be verified but most of these checks can be done electronically so a lot of players may not even know it's been done. They would only need ID and Address docs if they couldn't verify you identity electronically for whatever reason.

Unsure but I thought this new rule was pre verification with regards to brand new casino accounts at registration stage (before ANY deposits/bets are made)

No, anyone who they hadn't previously fully verified. May have been cases where players have opened accounts and deposited very little if anything at all. So if they hadn't done KYC they had to do it in whatever method they had.

Casinos can identify you from your card details. It's something that's done electronically with many UK casinos. The card is linked directly to your bank account.

It's just it seems many overseas casinos don't want to implement the infrastructure to be able to do this and so would rather you send in pictures.

I remember having some issues at BetAt a few months back. Got an email to say I needed to upload copies of my new card. Fine, all uploaded. Even sent an email to say this had been done. Then lo and behold the next day I get the same email requesting me to send in copies of my card. I was getting quite pissed off by this point as, shock horror, I had a withdraw pending.

Eventually it got approved and they blamed it on an error...

Couple of days later try to withdraw again and the same thing happened, unable to withdraw. Sent an email and it did get sorted swiftly but was again blamed on an error.

None of that would have happened with electronic verification.
