Our new premier who fancies himself as a mobster, came out with our new budget today, and this was part of it.

Booze and gambling
The government wants to open online casino-style gaming — currently only available through the OLG — to private companies. In the long-term, the government wants single-sport betting to become legal, but that requires changes to the federal Criminal Code.

I mean who doesn't enjoy a peaceful, scenic stroll through a park to admire natural beauty, to suddenly have a bunch of drunk louts enrich the landscape. I'm all for it!
Great budget if you have addictions, right? I'm not sure what the purpose is when it comes to promoting drinking so early. On the online gaming part, I will "bet" that we see Netent make it's way back here. Btw, our premier is an idiot! :)

didn't Ford have a brother, also a high ranking politician, who went off the rails and was filmed smoking a crack pipe or something?

if he did you might think he'd be cautious re addiction issues rather than the opposite

a T.O. mayor, yeah..rob

there must be something about the ford brothers that makes them so popular to win elections, I realise now the one I was thinking of, rob ford, passed away.
Yes, him and Doug did not get along. They were both into drugs. Doug was a dealer for years, that is why I say " dealer mode", and Rob used. It's a shame, because Rob made cuts, but he also used those cuts too. Laid things out on the line.

I think things have been working behind the scenes way before the budget came out today :)

He's a bit of a maverick this Doug Ford, just watched a few clips and he seems to be a straight talker. I find it fascinating that quebec and montreal are french speaking areas so close to new york state, new hampshire etc.. Are the french areas of Canada better run, better off than the english speaking areas or in general just the same?

The only area of Canada that isn't french speaking is Alberta, and BC. The rest is, and has different dialogues. No area is better run due to languages, but I can say Quebec has their own way of dealing with government policies, and at one time wanted to be separated from Canada. I've always been a huge fan of Quebec for it's beauty, traditions and their ability to fight for what is right. As far as Doug Ford goes, he is not a good person, and people will say that all the cuts had to be done, and to that I agree...BUT! I have been doing politics in Canada for years, and I have never seen such idiotic ideology come from one person that has zero education or even a formed thought of his own. Do some more reading about him, but stay away from the Toronto Sun, very biased, trash media outlet.

Here is an example. Ford has been " anti carbon tax" from day one, and is butting heads with the Prime Minister over this. Ford has now gone to this extent. Fining gas stations 10k a day if they don't display anti carbon stickers!
