CURACAO BANK UNDER PRESSURE

Corresponding US bank pulls the rug on Internet gambling transactions

Yet another manifestation of the far-reaching implications of the US Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act came to notice this week with the news that Curacao-based Giro Bank, which has hitherto been prepared to handle online gambling transactions, has been threatened.

Letter from Giro to its clients advised that its (unnamed) corresponding US bank had threatened to sever relationships unless the online gambling aspect of Giro's business was abandoned.

It is unknown if other banks in the region have been similarly threatened.

LOL... Sorry, Jetset...

The long arm of the USA DoJ storm troopers continues to amaze and stupify me...

No problem

And I agree with you - the US enforcement folks seem to have intimidation and *suggestion* down to a fine art, scaring companies out of their wits yet hardly ever having to take them into court.

In this case I guess Giro's corresponding bank in the US was simply anticipating the UIGEA regs and playing it safe anyway.
