Criticisms on moderation and administration of the forum

I see Chipmonkz has suddenly re-activated his CM account now that Ben is safely out of the way
When the cats away, the mice will play.

We have the same saying here in Sweden, but here its "when the cats away, the rats dance on the table", which might be a more fitting description.

Yeah and not just any rat, a rat who made not very subtly veiled threats towards another member of this forum.

And yet....while the person on the receiving end of said threats has been permanently banned, the "person" who issued the thread has his account re-activated.

Unbelieveable. No wonder this forum is becoming a fucking joke.
The mods can't even enforce their own rules without letting their clear and obvious bias in favour of (or against) certain members get in the way.

I think you need to clarify in order to make your thoughts known :p

Just to respond here about Chipmonkz, he was never banned but he quit the forum. A few weeks ago he was trying to contact me via PM through his disabled account, so I reopened it for him. It had nothing to do with Ben being banned for his toxic behavior (how many chances was I supposed to give that guy anyway?). Chipmonkz making threats? Where? Here? Show me.

As for your whinging about this forum going to pot because of a lack of moderation, you know as well as any senior member here that I have been pretty much gone this past year. Max can't do it alone - he's focused on PABs for christsakes, Dunover is a volunteer and helps when he can. That's pretty much it. Dionysus offered his help for a while, but now has some health issues and he can't. I am pretty sick and tired of hearing these bullshit comments when folks like you should be stepping up to plate and volunteering to assist - like Dunover and Dionysus did - two people out of hundreds.

Ask yourself what are you doing to make this a better place? And that goes for anyone critical about the way this forum is run. If you don't like it, step up and try to make a change.

Never knew you were looking for volunteers to help moderate the forum.

@mcgameboy theres a challenge for you. I am sure you would make a great unbiased Mod that everyone would love and respect.

Could actually think of a few that would make good moderators and quite a few that wouldn't lol.

I'm not. But if a person is complaining that the moderation sucks, and this person is in a senior membership category, you'd think that person would offer to assist. Wouldn't you?

Or at least have the courtesy or decorum to inquire privately on what is going on. RE: "Hey, your decision on XYZ - what's up with that?"

First mod duty;

Beat it, ur banned; for crimes against healthy eating.

I think @colinsunderland would be a great mod to CM, given the time, passion and knowledge. He pretty much is always on hand to offer up advice and just tells you exactly how it is.

Rob :)
thanks for the kind words :)
I was actually a mod for a while in the racing section, but as everyone in there is nice and well behaved, didn't have to moderate anything :D. Think when I got an infraction it was either automatically removed or I was kicked off cos I don't have the moderator link at the top of my screen anymore :)

I need to check on that. Will do this week.

@Casinomeister

Bryan,

As you know, I have already apologised to you via PM, yesterday.

However, given that my criticisms were done publicly on the forum, I think it is only right and fair that I man up and apologise publicly as well.
So to that end.....

I am sincerely sorry for some of my recent behaviour on this forum. And also for some of the criticisms directed at you.
Could I have gone about voicing these criticisms in a better way? In hindsight, yes I definitely could (AND should) have.
But I have (after some reflection) allowed my recent frustrations to get the better of me to such an extent that I didn't see the wood that was the better approach for the trees. That's on me and I hold my hands up, guilty as charged.

As for the other subject matters in your post, such as Ben v Chipmonkz, forum moderation and offering assistance, I will try to revisit these later today.

But for now, I just wanted to get the apology done. And help to put out the fire that I myself started.

Once again, my sincerest apologies, Mr. Casinomeister bossman.
I will learn from this and hopefully in future, I will go about things in a better way, through the proper channels.
I would much rather be a help to you than a hindrance.

Peace out.

FTR guys, we thoroughly investigated the allegations concerning Chipz/Ben plus some some posts on Rocknrolla's forum made by people purporting to be members on here, using similar monikers. We weren't able to prove conclusively that anyone had done this, alas.

Chipz was never banned, as Bryan said, simply asked for his a/c to be suspended.

Playford had more strikes than Joe Di Maggio so a ban was inevitable, given the repeated complaints and infractions. Personally, I quite like the bloke which gets me on to the subject of moderation. I actually had complaints against myself for replying to some of his posts with laughing emojis, which to some suggested I wasn't fit to moderate because I found him amusing sometimes. And there's the crunch, about moderation. You have to take each report/complaint on merit and even if you have sympathy with one party or the other, or know them personally, you must be as neutral as you can. A bit like if you were a Road Cop and you pulled a car over which had someone known to you driving it - they would still be checked and breathalyzed just like the next person.

Most reports (aside from shills/spammers/96 withdrawals etc) get no action as they are deemed trivial or in line with the rules, even if someone disagrees strongly. Then there are some which are as a result of personal agendas or vendettas which you take with a pinch of salt. The rest do get looked into, not just by me or @maxd or @Casinomeister alone but by at least two of us. This is an effective system of checks and balances that prevents one individual calling all the shots. Many reports are discussed extensively before action is taken, or not. Yes, there are some rare instances where the content is so vile that no discussion is necessary and the first mod will swing the ban hammer, knowing that the action will be 100% endorsed when the others read it.

Then you've got the daily list of new members waiting for approval, which need checking for dodgy spammy monikers, attempting first posts not in line with the rules etc. After that, their first 10 or so posts will be pre-moderated before approval and you need to keep on top of this as delaying a person's postings could put them off when they may have turned out to be a potentially useful member here.

So if anyone is thinking of asking to join the mods, I would ask of you to consider if you have the time to allocate on a daily basis. It would suit somebody working from home permanently like myself or other self-employed desk jockeys. This means you can access the forum admin regularly during your daily work online and keep on top of things. This is essentially what me and Max do. Or you may be semi-retired, retired?

It does take a bit of learning to understand the back end tools etc. and a little while to build up confidence in yourself, plus it can sting a bit when you try hard and members express their disapproval of you in public posts on the forum!

What I do know for sure is that there a several persons around here that could do the job if asked, so if there's a shortfall it'd be good to see someone step forward!

I think Snorky should be banned for crimes against running normally.

I mean who puts screen shots up of their 15 bonuses in one night without one being under 50x on bonanza?

If anyone deserves a ban it’s the Snorkmeister!!!
LOL... to think once or twice in the past I've had 15+ bonuses in one session from a modest deposit. Those were the days....:(

Thanks. guy. Much appreciated. And I have looked at the info you were referring to in the PM and yeah - monitoring conflicts within the forum is a complex task. I did however, notice a number of toxic comments being made or agreed to elsewhere, and that's a no-go in my book as well as violating the forum rules. So yeah, Chipmonkz account is banned here for flaming, and for his toxicity elsewhere.

It's puzzling to me since I have never attacked his business nor disparaged his person. Here is the thread he had issue with when he PMd me:
https://www.casinomeister.com/forums/threads/another-closed-streamer-thread.94335/

As you can see, I removed the mentioning of his name/business and more or less stood up for the guy. I am really growing tired of this unneeded timesuck. But there ya go - it comes with the territory. :p

It was nice knowing all of you. Irish Coffee is the ultimate food, with essential Fat, Sugar, Caffeine and Alcohol.

Melted cheese improves life.
Emotional rollercoaster for Ternur when he reads this.

He is of course wrong about cheese, and i hope that one day he will see the error in his ways. 554.gif
