According to an article on the Guardian website today, the UK government is considering banning credit card payments to online gambling as part of a major crackdown.

"A ban on using credit cards for online gambling and a mandatory levy on gambling firms to fund addiction treatment are among last-minute recommendations submitted as part of a government review of gambling regulation."

They already take 15% (?) tax - why don't they use some of THAT for the problem gamblers?
Just yet another excuse for the government to grab more cash off gamblers if you ask me...

"But we'll still let credit card holders rush to the ATM outside the bookies to withdraw cash advances to shovel into 100-quid a pop FOBTs"

On positive side effect will be to prevent UK players depositing with them at scam Alpha Interactive/Affpower/Yucatan casinos.

It's going to be interesting Friday to see what decision has been made by the DCMS on the max stake on FOBT's. We will truly get a sense of the power 'lobbyists' have in Westminster. Suggestions that it will be a £2 max stake are very welcome, but until an official announcement is made I would be cautious to speculate.

At the current rate of NWO nannying I expect to have to register at my local council office to get 'permission' to gamble on that day.

Of course I'm being silly. I meant to say they'll send round 'morality squads' to cease my assets and interrogate me in a cell as to why I had the idea of having a flutter on Pixies of the Forest

Banning credit cards is a fair RG measure. It may irritate regular gamblers, but just imagine someone on tilt trying to win back a loss. They exhaust their bank account, and the only thing allowing them to chase further is their credit cards. in the end, instead of being forced to stop when broke, they end up maxing out all their cards and are worse than just broke, they are deep in debt.
I have noticed that credit card issuers have changed their terms so that they can treat gambling deposits as cash advances and charge high fees plus high interest from day 1. Although it will be possible to use ATMs to get at the cash, this is often throttled to a daily max, possibly £200 to £500. When depositing online however, there is no such limit and it's possible to get through the entire credit allowance sat in front of the screen.

It would still be possible to gamble on credit, but it will be harder, and involve steps like getting out of the house to visit an ATM, and then have to do this every day for several days before being able to access all the cash. This throttling of the tilt behaviour will offer opportunities for the player to come down and have a think about what they are doing, with a good chance they will stop before they have maxed everything out.

Absolutely this! They have to be seen as though they are taking steps to combat problem gambling etc, but at the end of the day too much money is made from all forms of gambling and as such there will always be some way to do so.

Ill wait till it says it somewhere that is a good read... Your reading it from a site thats put the world in a new ice age 5 years running and at least 20 lots of bull every week
