Corona virus - Covid 19 discussion

And so it begins.

Deserved the sack in my book, just for being an award prick.

He was asked to follow site rules and guidelines and he refused to do so and he was rightly sacked for gross misconduct, but you can bet your bottom dollar there will be the usual crowd shouting " its an invasion of our liberty" " big brother taking over" " human rights being eroded" etc.
If I travel to another site while on work, i respect the other sites rules and regulations, dont see why this clown couldnt.

No doubt dealer will be along soon to tell everyone it's a human rights breach, but fail to point it which part it breaches as he has done numerous times in the thread already.

Personally I agree, if a site has rules, then you need to follow them, or risk getting sacked, it's as simple as that. If I go on a building site, and get told site rules are I have to wear a hard hat, then if I refuse, I would expect to be told to leave. If being on that site was part of my job, and 90% of my employers businesses involved being on that site, then I would think I was likely to get sacked. I also wouldn't expect to win at a tribunal.

Looks like BoJo has leaked some of his roadmap for Monday's breifing.

I think i may have posted this video once before in this thread, but its a pretty neat video, so another watch wont hurt. :)
The channel overall is pretty interesting and dives into a bunch of different topics.

Reason they had the beaks on the masks were so they could stuff them full of herbs, sometimes even have the herbs smouldering, to counter the smell, and to prevent themselves getting sick.

Also seems to be coinciding with Biden taking over and making surer the focus is on getting the vaccine into peoples arms???
I did not want to politicize it but its around 41.x million vaccines administered for population of 332 million. So somewhere around 13% of the population of the first dose anyway. Is that enough to cause a 69% drop in cases?

Perhaps this is more likely the reason?

Nice to see the Uk Government seem to have learned from past mistakes and are trying to lift the restrictions in a structured
and logical manner, ensuring each stage is applied only if the critiria is met.Think the success of the vaccines has given everyone
real hope and allowed this roadmap out the epidemic to go foward.Just hope Boris keeps following the science and doesnt
revert to insisting certain things happen just because he or his ministers think they ought to.
Amazed at how well vaccination program is going and we should all be very grateful for the hard work by the staff and volunteers,
I was struck by the way people were treated when attending the vaccination centre, they treated everyone with respect and
were so helpful and greeted you with a smile.

How are the 'lockdowns don't work' nuts going to explain this one away then. Despite claiming that a high percentage of deaths being recorded earlier in the year were actually flu, and the numbers were being change to make it seem like they were all C-19, it actually turns out there hasn't been a SINGLE flu death this year. Not one. Right in the middle of flu season. Maybe dealer and the other one can explain why the flu cases have gone, usually there would be thousands dead by now. Anyone would think it's because of lockdown, who didn't know any better...

We can all throw about numbers pal to suit whether agenda we want.

right or wrong.

i was open enough to admit my failings regarding this, I’m also open enough to state i think personally now the ends don’t justify the means.

don’t be calling people trolls or nuts pal, ok you have a different view, but your not the all seeing intellect or word on corona..

No disrespect at all intended col, as I hope and know you won’t take it that way mate.

I can see both sides of the coin to be honest but given the unknown regarding “LONG COVID” then absolutely see why the side of caution is the best policy.

The things I find hard to equate are, if I remember correctly (don’t think I am miles out), the UK went into lockdown when we were recording about 3,000 cases per day and it was deemed necessary for around 3-4 months and I think we came out of it recording around 300 cases per day.

Move the clock forward nearly a year and we are coming out of lockdown, recording around 10,000 cases per day. Try figuring the logic there.

I know there is more testing and some people have been vaccinated but not enough to justify coming out of lockdown Imo.

The other thing I have to question is whether face masks make much difference. I know hospital workers who have been wearing PPE up to the eyeballs and still got it. Since Xmas when we recorded between 10,000 and 60,000 cases per day, were all those people really not wearing masks? I doubt it very much.

I only look at things from a logical point of view and looking at the rapid drop in cases worldwide, I think there are signs the virus is weakening rapidly. If you look back to just after Xmas, the worldwide daily cases peaked at around 800,000. Given that the virus is obviously exponential, that put it in the strongest position it had ever been in, in terms of being able to spread.

I get that some countries made stricter lockdown rules and vaccines have been started but those factors alone would not be enough to reduce daily cases as rapidly as they are falling (for the majority).

I could be totally wrong but I hope not as it would be great to get back to normal sometime soon. Perhaps when it happens we will cherish it more and not take it so much for granted.

I don't understand, Dealer has said on here many times, it's seasonal, just like the flu and thats why the numbers increased, He also states lockdowns/restrictions don't work to prevent the spread viruses, in fact they increase it, so how have there been ZERO cases of flu this year. He's also stated (without any evidence as usual) that death numbers are no higher than average than that of a normal year so 'proving' Covid isn't as bad as the media make out. Yet now theres clear evidence none of that is true, so yeah I'll pull him on it.

I'll also call him a troll when he tries to make out I've said something I didn't. Notice he hasn't replied to that either.

I didn't say anything about lockdowns and masks not working, and certainly didn't post a link saying masks don't work.
So yeah, he's a troll.
Move the clock forward nearly a year and we are coming out of lockdown, recording around 10,000 cases per day. Try figuring the logic there.

I think the theory is that we are still 5 weeks away from any of the main restrictions being lifted. By then, there will be another 10-12 million people vaccinated, and as the numbers are falling daily, they are expecting the numbers to be much lower than they are today, and even then the restrictions that are being lifted are ones that only allow very limited contact outside. 2 weeks after that, it will be shops and a few indoor things like hairdressers, but by then there will have been something close to an extra 17/18 million vaccines done. That will be 34/35 million in total. He's also said the dates are the earliest things will change (apart from schools going back) and if numbers aren't dropping, then the dates will be put back.

I do think he's stuck between a rock and a hard place though, half the country are screaming for the restrictions being lifted quicker, the other half saying he's doing it too quick. Personally the quicker they are lifted, the better for me, but not if the outcome is that a few months later we end up back in lockdown. I would rather spend an extra couple of months like this and never have to have another one, than lift them too soon and be in and out of lockdown for the next year.

Something just crossed my mind regarding people who refuse to be vaccinated.

If the vaccine is proved to kill the virus and leave that person immune from further infection from this strain.

I'm wondering where the people who refused the vaccine would stand in regards to their life insurance policies if they died from Covid?.

Insurance do not pay out in suicide cases, and if by refusing the vaccine you have contributed to your own death, i wonder if they would pay out, or only pay a much reduced amount.

I can see it being one of the questions "have you had a vaccine jab" on future policies and sky high premiums if you haven't.

Interesting, it could well be seen as own death caused by negligence, there could be wider implications if you cause someone elses
death working unvaccinated in a caring occupation
Insurance companies dont need much of an excuse to avoid paying out, sure they will be looking at it very closely

Was thinking what happens if you have to place an elderly relative into a care home, will the first question be " have all your staff been vaccinated?". What if the answer is no, will you still use that facility?
I do think there will be a lot of implications if people decide not to have a vaccine, but I dont think it should ever be compulsory it has to be a choice whether you have it or not.
I had my first dose a few weeks ago, and I have absolutely no regrets.

Pretty sure insurance companies will not be able to refuse a payout because someone refused to get vaccinated.

By saying if you refuse vaccination and die from the virus is like committing suicide is way wrong. So anyone that drinks, smokes eats too much and eventually dies through an illness caused by it will not get insurance either as it was self inflicted.

Once the country is mostly vaccinated people will still die from the disease. But will probably be numbers like the annual flu deaths. And hardly see insurance companies going oh they died from flu. Better check they had a flu jag before we pay out.

It will almost certainly increase premiums if you dont have it though, same way as telling them you smoke does.
