Corona virus - Covid 19 discussion

Knackered today, turned up on site in manchester..

was meant to be in Wigan (lad driving was a head the ball)

got back to my digs about 6, (been up since half 4)

spoke to my daughter who requested a Shetland pony, then a takeaway for tomoz night..

so after my shower I cooked dynamite (stagg chilli) and rice..

also have some Pitta’s out of sight..

just relaxing now watching bloodsport, the classic van Damme version..

They still make that stuff ?? That's brought back some awesome memories. One can of that and a teaspoon of Blair's "Jersey Death".

Certainly knocks the spots off some of the on-the-road-food you've been taking pictures of recently. :)

Thanks Ben - it's on the list

An extremely sobering account of long-Covid, written by a previously healthy man in his mid 40s who was big into his fitness and weight-training before he caught Covid in March 2020.

When he wrote this blog entry last month, he'd been ill for nine months.

---------------------

I thought I was getting better in October, but like many long covid sufferers I’m hit by ‘relapses’ that seem to follow any period of apparent recovery in an interminable cycle. None of these relapses have been as bad as when it was at its worst in September, but each one is a demoralising and crushing blow mentally. It’s like glimpsing light at the end of the tunnel and then realising each time it’s yet another truck hurtling toward you to knock you flat for a week or two.

At the moment, 9 months or so from first contracting the infection, I have pretty bad fatigue and concentration problems (I can’t read more than 5 pages for teaching purposes without my mind shutting down), tightness and pains in my ribs and chest – I think it’s my lungs – I have a little bit of arthritic stiffness in my joints and any form of even mild physical exercise leaves me with ‘heavy legs’, cramping pains in my calves and clicking joints in my ankles, knees and hips. I know from a couple of previous attempts at (very cautious) resistance bands workouts that even light strength training leaves me with post-exertional malaise and precipitates a relapse for at least a fortnight afterwards.

In fact this inability to exercise is what’s getting me down the most. I really enjoy weight training and indeed it became a very important part of my routine over the past 10 years or so. It provides me with crucial psychological benefits (anxiety-reduction, self-confidence) as much as physical ones and it really is a source of anguish to me that I haven’t been able to do it for 5 months or so now with no end in sight. I’m sure I’ve degenerated physically over the past few months and lost a lot of muscle bulk which is just heartbreaking. I know it’s not the biggest tragedy in the world but it’s really shit for me.

----------------------

A few days ago, he died. Most recently he'd been in and out of hospital for lung function tests and suchlike.

Here are some of his final Tweets, from getting ill with Covid, he never got his health back, and now he's died from its complications. It took months of miserable ill health and suffering to kill him.

This is not a rare or isolated case.

There are tens of thousands of people suffering from Long-Covid in the UK.

Honestly folks, you don't want to roll the dice on this thing. When you get the chance to get vaccinated. Take it.

Well it was a hard long day today and I couldn’t be bothered to cook.

ordered a ‘king kebab’ and this is just idiotic, had 3 plates and this is what’s left...

Chips and salad, 3 dips and a chicken dhansak, wankers forgot my bottle of Pepsi..

Never thought I would be done this week, but with 15 Million already done its nothing but spectacular what can happen when you leave it to the NHS to carry it out.

My father who has cancer 400 miles away still not heard nothing. Its terrible for them people in areas where they are behind

We couldn't be more different views if we tried.

I just lean differently politics wise is all.

your clearly a better person than your father mate, sorry to say...

Also your big enough and adult enough to move away from his idiotic stance and not let his sickening diatribe bother you, as it shouldn’t mate.

keep doing what your doing pal, joking aside it’s easy me saying this as ‘a stunning straight white male with a body like a geek god’

but I’ve gay pals and some had a really shitty time , so I’m not blind to how difficult it can be... even in 2021 mate.

You are a brave man telling a Finnish person the Sauna (which is a finnish word) originated in Sweden.
If this post reaches you before Ternurs hitman does, i strongly urge you to edit it

Im sorry I thought this was the 'Sweden - Discussion' thread where we link all facts and figures to Sweden.

Besides, generally speaking in the UK, Sauna is used as a loose term for swedish baths etc etc. How dare you correct me on the language my country gifted you with.

End of discussion until you have mastered my language - how rude!

(I may be........

to hide my own failings).

Damn Suede's......

To be fair, we are pretty rude here in Switzerland.

From what ive seen, it seems fairly common for Americans to confuse Switzerland and Sweden, is that a thing in the UK aswell?

Oh dear (dark) Lord! It took a day to someone to f**k up this thread by spouting platitudes and trying to spread misinformation.

Let's be clear Bambi.

There's nothing loose about the term Sauna. And it has nothing to do with Swedish baths etc etc (I have no idea what that even means). Sauna is a holy place. Misuse of the word will not be tolerated.

Reported for for blatant cultural appropriation and sheer ignorance.

Other ramifications will follow. Sleep one eye open Bambi!

Every time we go somewhere, e.g. railway station, school, bus, shop, pub, office etc.. out must come our mobile to scan to gain entry; purely on a practical level, what happens if the phone battery runs down during the day, you can't enter the supermarket to pick up your evening meal?

66 million people required to prove covid status daily, multiple times a day, I just can't see it happening as a future 'fact of life', hopefully just another pipe dream from toxic Tony.

What about those that don't have mobile phones? Pipedream indeed in my opinion

Your right and I am sorry.

Just because my ancestors colonised and cultivated your peoples I do not have any superiority.

My earlier post did not display just how diverse and unique the cultures of Switzerland and Sweden really are, let me correct:

Swtzterland also do watches and really, really, good knives.

The Swede's are not just beautiful they also have really, really, good football fans......

And wonderfully talented Actresses

with long standing links to the fatherland (UK).

Oh and more great football fans......

Just seen his executive director chris Yiu has created a thread on twitter, posing similar questions and giving his replies:

"A health pass is unfair to people without smartphones." No. A health pass should accommodate people without a smartphone, e.g. with a printable option as a fall-back (though for most of us, carrying a digital pass on our phone will be much more convenient).

---------

If he strictly means a health passport in order to travel abroad then that might not be unreasonable, required once or a few times a year, but reading his thread I don't get that impression, and if it's about minimising 'health risk' from covid, then the Govt will also probably want to apply it to domestic locations and places.

It is a further slipping to big brother style govt, with the population under constant surveillance of one kind or another, computers and wifi have made it a possible reality/fact of life. [sorry that is a bit of a depressing conclusion, hopefully there will be parlimentary resistance and scrutiny]

Just had it done, Went very smoothly in and out in 20 minute's "15 of which was waiting after it is done"

Out of 25 people in there all of them I would say was under 60 a lot of people in 30s 40s.

Its fantastic how we are already at this stage after vaccinating 15 million+ before hand.

I don't take this lightly I know I am lucky and blessed to of had it done now.

Pfizer now say that their vaccine is stable at fridge temps.

Next they will be telling everyone who will listen that their vaccine stored under the armpit of a sweaty Arab for 72 hours will improve its efficiency for the task it was invented for.
"Following the science" sure is fluid

Yes that's what science is, it changes over time as we learn new things. If science knew everything already, it'd just stop.

However, just because science doesn't have all the information about something right now, doesn't mean folks can make shit up to fill in the gaps.

Also, you're misrepresenting what's actually happened.

I have no doubt that real science should be taken note of. Real science is what most specialists rely on over decades of consistent proof right? The most imminent of scientists are listened too and followed. Right?

And this is where "Science" is today.
