Corona virus - Covid 19 discussion

Nobody wants to close the schools but as they are a major source of mixing and disease transmission we really
dont have a choice.I understand its going to cause problems for the parents who go to work but are not classed
as key workers but we are now at such a crucial stage we have to buy the time needed to get the vaccinations
out to everyone, there is no other way out of this.
I can see us having some horrendous daily infection and death figures in a couple of weeks time, this mutation
has come at the worse possible time, things were looking up before it developed but we were warned it might happen.

Grim reading.

If it weren't for the vaccines, we'd be absolutely and completely fucked, as it is, they may be too late to avert the collapse of our health service.

'We are not even slowing this thing down'

This is a virus that is genuinely out of control.

We really do need a full lock down.

If the shit really hits the fan and the NHS does collapse, it will be to late for twats like dealer wins and anyone associated with him to start believing reality.
Ohh 110% a full lockdown is coming... but what about us with mouths to feed?
bills to pay?..

Also the nhs hasn’t been so much as close to collapse mate. We ain’t even used the nightingales, the staffing issues are due to the comical testing and folks being off with Covid when in reality where as healthy as a dozen racing snakes.

FWIW I reckon will probably be in full lock down in the next ten days. As in no movement anywhere elderly cocooning 2km max distance allowed from home unless essential.

Genuinely worrying numbers here and people still telling me it's all bollocks. It's getting harder to bite my tongue.

Similar to Boris. The Irish government are adamant schools should reopen on Jan 11th. So basically they are waiting for the National Task Force(NPHET) to tell them to keep schools closed.

what is the usual rate? Link please?

As far as I'm aware it has been zero Covid-19 admissions in early January since records began.
Obviously he knows so much about the health service and this virus he must be a very high up consultant or maybe even a member of the SAGE committee, or at the very least he’s a knowledgeable scientist who has better knowledge of this than us mere mortals...

That's the real issue. It's hard to enough to earn a living as it stands right now. Children out of school becomes very difficult. That's why a clear supportive plan is needed from the government.

or he's just talking absolute shite as he has throughout the thread :)

NHS is fine, this lady is clearly wrong, and what would she know about it?

Just to pick one of those groups of letters after her name, MRCP stands for Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom.

However, I am sure that some of the regular faces on this thread are better informed, and better qualified, than she is.

I said a few pages ago, in the event of a full lockdown, furlough should be extended to 100% of wages. They won't though as they will say it's saving travel expenses, childcare etc.

Not at all, I’ve only mentioned the professionals I know and have spoke to regarding my local hospital.

ive zero knowledge on others and what they are doing, hence I’d not make such a sweeping statement. How’s the island dealing with this?.. all tickety boo I guess mate?

I looked into the numbers when we spoke about this last time. James Cook does have a very low amount of C-19 patients, North Tees has high numbers though. I wonder if it's similar to here where a lot of C-19 cases are being sent to Sunderland from surrounding areas, to try to keep other hospitals 'clean'?

Possibly mate, but as I’ve said a million times the docs, nurses I know personally are at James cook.

I can’t possibly comment on north tees (better hospital btw)

I’m only repeated what they told me about my local, I’m not about to go positing links or nonsense I can’t back up as my peers would look at me like ‘why the hell we tell this clown in the first place’

People who are not key workers should be at home looking after their own kids.

The lock down before xmas had next door on my landing( only 2 floors) have the carpet fitters round, opened the door to see what was going on, said wtf are you doing, they said fitting a carpet, i said we are on lock down, Key workers they said mate (all cheery like they know me). You can fuck right off i said. Went a bit quiet. so i said no fucking carpet is coming up the stairs today mate (said the mate with sarcasm, just because, i,m not there mate). They went downstairs and i could here them talking at the back of their van outside one was arguing with the other, so i opened the window and asked why are you still here?.

Now i had no idea the size of this carpet, but it was not mega as was inside the van, but they had checked and knew the route to get into next doors, which is up 1 full flight of stairs turn 90 degrees 3 steps and turn 90 degrees again then go past my front door straight into my neighbours front door 6 feet away.

Being a gambling man nearest police 45 mins, and not overly keen on a punch up at 10am. I felt, i wanted to increase the odds in my favour.

From the fact that they were arguing, i thought Ok this issue might not be going away, so put my thinking head on, and put my fold out reclining chair where the stairs do the the 90 degrees 3 steps down before the other 90 and put the kettle on. (i didn't need the chair n coffee in the end, but thought would pass on on a massive passive aggressive tactic. I was quote chuffed at the time, and slightly gutted i never got to test it.

Anyway went back to the window and noticed the van was sign written. quite a big company round here. I said does your boss know your here?.

Got, WTF has it got to do with you. now that i,m upstairs talking.

Two phone numbers on the van, one a landline, presume the office and a mobile.

I asked them which number would they like me to call first?. Plus if i get no joy i,ll take a picture of your van and you two kitted up in knee pads and tool belt.(phone in hand) And the police will deal with you, only 2 lanes in and out of here in the same direction (west) for 30 mins. The other is a dead to the sea wall.

Oh Btw my neighbours thought it was all funny as feck, even down to after the carpet fitters left and drink my coffee on the stairs in my chair.

Your probably all wondering why i,.m posting this on this thread, But felt i needed a bit of escapism for the real world and it;s probably taken me 30 plus mins to write as lost me glasses yesterday. New pair in the morning. But got a bit carried away in my last post.

I,m so lucky compared to most people. Retired at 50. Most of my family live in New Zealand, lived there myself for two 7 tear stints.

Only have my Dad (not spoken in 15 years) and Son who live here, Son in 22 so not overly concerned about the virus regarding him,

I own a recovery truck which is 90% used for my sons racing, in fact his race car has sat on the back of the truck since last year, he only got 2 race meetings our of 15 and the engine went bang on the last lap. Shit happens, and thats by far from a moan.

I also own a decent car and a motor home with 3 double beds, bathroom blah

You will never see me bitch about my life. Financially i,m quite poor, i rent my place, it lovely and does me fine.

I like a gamble as much as anyone, prefer now the football and darts, returned £243 in last 2 days.

Unless i had £100 plus normally £200 as a starting stake on the slots, i would not bother, that could be at 20p stakes, but normally 20 buy features.

I cant do the grinds now to get a 10x after 3 hours, so play blackjack,

I guess thats it for this post. I,m not angry now (apart from the member dealer wins) If he posts on this thread again in denial, he is getting both barrels and i will speak to you all after my ban. LOL

Ben stop listening to twat talk.

We dont have staff to run nightingales, not even close, I was blinkered myself thinking the forces could run it

You have a lovely healthy daughter, she has survived your cooking.

If the food is starting to run short, shout me on pm.

He and the panel have been responsible for over 2000 peer reviewed papers I believe. The drug is also known as Stromectol. If I lived in America I would buy some as a precaution.

Is that in case you have some worms in your ball bag?

A little knowledge is dangerous, From one post (shared god knows how many times around the world)

You have managed to get someone from a gambling forum to try to buy untested alien drugs to the condition

Anybody know if repurposed drugs are being considered in the UK or other countries? Anybody know more about this panel and their advice?

I,m not sure if you are taking the piss or not?

Drug companies invest a lot of money trying to cure what ever. I will use your word repurposed, which would actually be repurpasing i think need me glasses.

If the drug failed in the first place.

Do you not think they will be first in the queue hoping it will cure the next disease? Spread on social media that they have the cure.

Think or your family plz

Dont take medical advice on a gambling forum

Yes i saw that was one of its uses but a quick search shows more.

Given the choice of taking something like this after watching that video or being on deaths door id probably pop a pill or two as a last ditch attempt.

Hardly the same as injecting bleach. Ill leave that one for you to try thanks :p
But still it has sweet FA to with the virus and your happy to pop pills

I read the first post as absolute professer.

My Doctor, Who is Dr Philips in the village has twice the letters after his name on the front door. And the practice doctor two sentances

Dont particularly like the way she uses social media.

Thanks for posting that.

Whats interesting for me is where he says nobody has been tasked with looking at 'repurposed' drugs. So my layman interpretation is that nothing already developed, or on the market, is being considered for a vaccine in the States.

And.....the only development is for newly manufactured drugs to be considered?

His body language looked awkward to me near the beginning but he was also uncomfortable defending himself, as most people are. Aside from that he seemed very convincing.

I looked at the drug he mentions (I think i have it right).....

Ivermectin

Ivermectin is a medication used to treat many types of parasite infestations. This includes head lice, scabies, river blindness, strongyloidiasis, trichuriasis, ascariasis, and lymphatic filariasis. It can be taken by mouth or applied to the skin for external infestations. Use in the eyes should be avoided.

Yes, when Mack mentioned Japan's handling of the covid19 a while back I came across that drug and was wondering if Japan was using it.

He’s cool is chop, he lives in a castle on a island, away from brexit or this nasty bug.

he just makes entertaining videos on RTP rants and the like mate, he’s actually a decent fellow.
Pretty much like me.

Not on an island, but takes a lot of fuel to get here, unless you fill up from where you leave and are intending to visit the Chapel, You will be doing the return trip on my truck to the nearest petrol station, or on a trailer which we use as per my other post

Well this virus really is not stopping.

So it is the rush to get everyone vaccinated.

Tho experts recommend second jag within 3 weeks as first jag is only 70% effective. Yet we are waiting 12 weeks for 2nd one so more people can get first.

Seems like a recipe for disaster. More worrying must be the fact that there are so many new strains of the virus developing. Will the vaccines even work against them. To be truthful the experts are not sure and the fact weeks from now the strains could have changed more is a major cause for concern.

Take this Article. Value it all you wish it is from Daily Mail so could be total crap.

But main point is everyone is clinging to a hope that vaccines will work. In reality we have a virus that keeps changing so fast that who knows a few weeks from now whether we will have any vaccine to beat it.

Regardless of what anyone says, if a treatment for coronavirus was to be found in an existing medicine it would be a silver bullet and it would make the company that markets that treatment a lot of money .
So far, to my knowledge, no treatment has proved to be the silver bullet, so I think what @Gaz237 is saying is that it’s pretty reckless to risk your health by taking medication that hasn’t been prescribed by a recognised professional. With the greatest respect to all the fine internet doctors we seem to have garnered over the past several months, I personally will still take the lead from proven science and the professional’s who should know what they are taking about.

I found that really interesting. I couldnt see much use for treating lung related illnesses but there were some big words and diseases i have never heard of lol.

Seems a wonder drug though that has helped millions worldwide. Mentions it was hoping to eradicate river blindness by 2020 and has helped millions with elephantitas and other diseases.

Thanks for sharing.

Yes a sliver bullet to that particular company. Lets say it was Japanese. Would the worlds economies put their orders in to cure immediately? Too many game players in the way for that to happen i think. Assuming most 'off the shelf' drugs are patented who would be the lucky company? Just cannot see that kind of collaboration at the expense of others portfolios.

More money being made from subsidising new research and developing a new vaccine. Sell millions of doses and then millions more when they dont work against the new strains - sounds ridiculous but is it not currently happening?

Completely agree its pretty reckless to risk your health by taking medication that hasn't been prescribed.

This must be the first ever respiratory virus where doctors are forbidden by govts from using/trying medications, and the uk govt should be giving out free vit d to everybody, not just the vulnerable, if they're so concerned at transmission, there isn't any sunlight currently which is the main source for everyone. This is just my opinion - I hope Chopley doesn't object to that, could be disguised anti-vax sentiment to promote natural vitamins ;)

Any medication that can combat coronavirus, whether its a vaccine or a therapeutic, will be snapped up by all governments because every government needs to get their economies moving. At the moment there are 4 or 5 vaccines on the go, but there are at least another dozen in the pipeline, and its the hope of getting vaccines rolled out that is keeping markets alive at the moment.
In short, i dont think if anyone had any kind of cure it would be withheld, because the world is crying out for something to get us back to normal and the scientific worlds focus is on getting vaccines/therapeutics to help us towards that normality.
But the unfortunate thing is now we have so many conspiracy theories on the go, so many fraudsters on the net peddling their miracle cures, that it can become harder to see the reality of the times we live in.

Yeah and it is becoming more expensive too I noticed! :eek2:

Just searched vit d and t-cells and seems to be a connection [known well before 2020]

[sciencedaily.com]

Scientists at the University of Copenhagen have discovered that Vitamin D is crucial to activating our immune defenses and that without sufficient intake of the vitamin, the killer cells of the immune system -- T cells -- will not be able to react to and fight off serious infections in the body.

For T cells to detect and kill foreign pathogens such as clumps of bacteria or viruses, the cells must first be 'triggered' into action and 'transform' from inactive and harmless immune cells into killer cells that are primed to seek out and destroy all traces of a foreign pathogen.

The researchers found that the T cells rely on vitamin D in order to activate and they would remain dormant, 'naïve' to the possibility of threat if vitamin D is lacking in the blood.

Professor Carsten Geisler from the Department of International Health, Immunology and Microbiology
explains that "when a T cell is exposed to a foreign pathogen, it extends a signaling device or 'antenna' known as a vitamin D receptor, with which it searches for vitamin D. This means that the T cell must have vitamin D or activation of the cell will cease. If the T cells cannot find enough vitamin D in the blood, they won't even begin to mobilize.

-----------

Surely If somebody is able to fight the virus off more effectively [from the t-cell activity] then they're less likely to pass it on to others? And yet from the uk govt and lockdown docs & academics silence, it's never been mentioned.

Some of us said this months ago but we are just conspiracy theorists, some of us tried to give advice, it is a waste of time bothering, for those with their head in the sand, by all means please stay locked in your homes away from vitamin d, don't take vitamins or any suppliments either, just keep smoking, drinking and eating junk food like normal and deal with the health consquences.

Had to take missus to hospital last night (emergency). Was fearing the worse what with the overstretched NHS. Seen within 5 minutes, out of hospital within 20 minutess. It was deserted as this waiting room shows:

If the NHS is as overstretched as is being claimed, the place surely would have been heaving?

Got a link to those UN figures you quoted or were you just being a conspiracy theorist?

Presumably most Covid patients don't go through A&E?

The whole place was like a ghost town, not just the urgent care centre we went to. Hardly any cars parked, no people to be seen etc.
