Corona virus - Covid 19 discussion

39,237 cases in the UK. +14,076
744 deaths in the UK. +132
2,004 patients admitted to hospital in the UK. +234
20,917 patients in hospital in the UK. +2,879
1,529 patients on ventilation in the UK. +203

453,903 tests conducted.

8.6% of tests are currently coming back positive. The numbers are terrible, around the levels we had at the peak in April I believe.

Numbers will drop over Christmas as some nations won't be submitting the data

A virus has no conscience, its only purpose is to propagate itself. It doesn't care whether you live, die or survivors all grow a second asshole. Chopley is right, they usually get milder, a good example being the flu of 1918, started on a Kentucky poultry farm. It was so bad, many American troopships had 25% dead before they even got to the UK and it carried on like this throughout the world for a relatively short time, but enough time to kill tens of millions. People would die in 48-72 hours and therefore were to ill to go and spread it when infectious, aside from family members or workmates for a brief period. It became less deadly quite quickly. This is why lockdowns are so important, as when the virus mutates it does so on the basis it's not spreading itself quickly enough because it's too deadly, so tends to become less so.
The bubonic plague of the 1665-66 outbreak also has evidence of this and it was realised even then that isolating households with it present would limit the spread, hence the red x on the doors, houses locked. Unwittingly, they also found lime smoke or some similar concoction would sterilize infected houses and objects. Recent research has now debunked the idea it was spread by rats and their fleas, but via blood by bed bugs and body lice which were prevalent in highly cramped and poor households where washing and bathing were limited, and this is why it was known as the disease of the poor as diarist Samuel Pepys noted when the rich seldom caught it. Kind of like today where the habits and circumstances of inner cities bear the brunt of the infections and in rural or semi-rural areas like where I live, positive tests are rare.

Makes you wonder why viruses exist and what their purpose is other than to propagate, they will never evolve into any
kind of higher life form, just cause misery and death, suppose they have been around longer than we have and will exist
for millions of years after we have gone so maybe they will be the winners in the long run.
Clever how the little bastards produce mutations that are more infectious but less likely to kill the victims, ensures
there there are more people around to spread the virus.

Forgive my Lockdown ramblings :)

Anyone taking this utter BS seriously wants there heads looking at haha!

this parody is bang on, sadly many are adhering to this shite!

not see my friends and family over Xmas incase we get a cold haha! Piss right off!..

Its not about losing anyone, 1600 people die every day in the UK. Its about the wanton destruction of jobs, livelihoods, businesses, which all used to contribute to paying for public services like the NHS etc.

Rishi has pi$$ed 350 billion up the wall this year, totally unnecessary , if he tries that again next year, we will be walking a very dangerous path to economic collapse, and if he tries that in Q3 2021, we will be paying £100 for a loaf of bread.

Maybe them the furloughed and the holier than thou will realise what the hell we have done to society.

You forgot to answer my question after your last post?
The spending was unnecessary? So you think he shouldn't have gave any financial support to businesses or workers? I'm sure that wouldn't have caused a massive rise in unemployment, something you seem to keep complaining about.

You understand Rishi hasn't 'borrowed' the money from a bank or anything like that? It's literally UK Plc lending money to UK Plc. I've linked an explanation of how it works in this thread before.

Why am I even bothering, you can't debate nonsense rhetoric with evidence and facts if one party completely refuses to listen to them.

I'll do a Brasseye graphic again.

You do realise you could literally kill some of them with that attitude? Friends and family mingling over Christmas is exactly the way this new variant will spread even more quickly than it already is doing, and people will die as a result.

Or, perhaps, unwittingly giving them an invisible means to go and kill by proxy. The sooner that the respect for the sheer simplicity of the existence of this virus is gained by all, then we can get the better of it and survive. We give it what it needs then it will win - sadly.

But what you don’t realise @ChopleyIOM is that there is a core of people who know better than all the scientists in the world , they know more than the doctors and they are completely immune to this clearly fake virus....
I mean it’s obvious that the millions who have caught it and the 1.73 million who have died have all only had a flu and were all misdiagnosed.... they were old and were going to die anyway , weren’t they .
I am so glad that I haven’t got an internet MD so I do listen to what the scientists tell me and I will try and stay save, I’m pretty happy to be a sheep.

Situation in London continuing to deteriorate as expected. Many doctors are worried that other parts of the UK will follow. A lot of misinformation around, so some fairly blunt observations here, for which I apologise. But we all need to understand the equation.

As with the first wave, the sharp rise in people testing positive for SARS-CoV-2, will be followed by a sharp rise in hospital admissions for COVID-19, and then a similar rise in excess deaths in January....

….but like all disasters, for every death we can expect many more people to be injured and survive. And so it is with COVID-19. Most hospitalised patients will survive but they will take a long time to recover. Many will experience so-called ‘Long COVID’.

It's a false dichotomy to suggest we are choosing between the health impacts of COVID and the economic impacts of lockdowns. Poor health causes poor wealth. When an economically active person is too ill to work, their dependents are affected, all become poorer.

Like all diseases, COVID-19 affects the poor more than the wealthy. The blue columns in this graph show the number of patients admitted to intensive care by levels of deprivation (or IMD). The yellow line shows where the columns would be if we were all affected equally.

COVID is not a disease of older people. Half the patients admitted to intensive care are less than 60 years of age while four out of five are independent (needing no assistance in daily activities: washing, dressing, cooking, etc). Data:

For society, death is quick, simple and relatively inexpensive. But survival with serious complications is the much more likely outcome from COVID, and for many people a worse one. Also worse for the economy. Ill people need care from their family and the state.

So if (as some suggest) we lock up the old and sick, then let the virus rip, we would see many young people die of COVID, but many more survive with long-term disability, with the greatest impact on the poorest in society. The economy would get much worse, not better.

We must accept that the virus SARS-CoV-2 will be with us for years. When we finally manage to control the pandemic, we will still see a long period where the virus is endemic (widespread) in both UK and global society. Ignoring the pandemic won’t make it go away.

Thank you for your hard work and commitment to

. Please engage those who need convincing and exclude those who spread denial. Many lives depend on our collective responsibility. Freedom to ignore the pandemic is the freedom to put the lives of others at risk.

One thing this pandemic has taught me is to never judge a book by it's cover.
I always looked at people on Facebook, who had stuff like 'Education : School of Life' 'Education : University of Hard Knocks' as being people who probably left school without many qualifications, so made something up to try to look funny (it didn't work), rather than thick.
How wrong could I have been, turns out these must be top schools/uni's as loads of them are either expert virologists, experts in genetic epidemiology, or in a lot of cases, both.

Just a couple of recent examples

(ok then :) )

We should actually start a facebook fun thread for all the nutty comments we see on there (not just C-19 related)

I think Louse Hind definitely knows more about it all than the Intensive Care Doctor I quoted above.

I bet he only did an advanced degree and years in medical school, then all of a sudden he thinks he's qualified to talk about medical matters. Shameful.

What are you talking about now exactly ? Facebook reference please ....
Been a while since i seen a good oxymoron in use

Last time i had my FB was 2013; back then it was the old food pics and 'hilarious' Lad Bible postings: seems it's gotten a bit more high brow then? :p

Wish people would not keep on about how many folks die of normal diseases and old age every day, thats natural
but those figures should not be used to minimise the covid deaths, they are extra deaths many of which could be prevented.
Sick of anti lockdown and anti vaccine attitudes, how can they be helping the situation.
Just wait until you have arrange to the funeral of a loved one and sort out all their possessions, its heart-breaking.
Life is precious, sick of flippant remarks from people who seem to think otherwise.

This means the UK overpaid by the better part of one billion pounds.

Turns out being part of a massive trade bloc has its advantages. Headline news I know.

Is that why the UK has a vaccine being delivered already whilst Holland hasn't as yet?

Why does everything have to be political with you?

Felt i had to post this, as shows the lo IQ of your average anti vaccine brigade.

Was listening to LBC and a lady came on talking about those lorry drivers who now have to turn round and go back to Mansfield (i think). for a covid test.

She actually said It's so unfair of Boris to make them have to turn their trucks around, it must be so hard for them to turn around with trucks parked either side. The presenter went silent.

You forgot to answer my question after your last post?

Cant argue with this.
without financial help this shit shower would of been tenfold

This is part of the problem with the 'just let it do its thing' crowd, the more it spreads, the more infection there is, the more transmission there is, the more mutations there are.

Yes it is true that viruses usually mutate to be less lethal because that helps them spread, but there's nothing to say that Covid won't mutate into a strain that is more lethal and/or the vaccines won't work on.

We've already got a version that's SIGNIFICANTLY more transmissible, ratchet up the death rate on a further mutation, that the vaccines don't work on (which is entirely possible), and we really would be a dreadful situation.
Ahh man the Who are recruiting for covid experts but unfortunately for them your the resident brexit expert you really are wasted on u tube...

my best pal is so far left he would make @ChopleyIOM a nazi.

political persuasions are irrelevant should you have true mates pal.

Bet its edging closer to a million deaths by now with these further insane lockdowns. This murderous madness needs to stop!!!
well he's a fucking plank isn't he, as what he said at the start of all this was

“From a Covid-19 point of view, the best thing would be to go into lockdown for as long as it takes to develop a vaccine and inoculate 60 per cent of the population,” he said.

View attachment 147761Deadly pandemic, I dont think so. Deadly government, condemning people with cancer and other serious illness to death, condemning people jobs, livelihoods, mental health and sanity to death. Disgusting scaremongering.
Whats that big blue dotted line thats massively higher than the others, in mid April this year?
Why is there not a massive spike for all the deaths you claim the lockdown has caused?

My neighbour was refused a scan 3 times as she wasn’t tested for Covid whilst in hospital.

her funeral was Tuesday just gone.. how Covid affected her cancer we won’t ever know..

3 good lads I knew ended it due to depression, lack of work etc... left behind wife and kids etc..

I get this can be bad for ‘some tiny minority of people’

but seriously it isn’t the plague, how many members has CM got? How many hospitalised?.. I bet it’s zero..

just like the students a few months back having a party, thousands...

How many hospitalised?? How many dead..
ZERO
The news won’t mention this...

fine for the likes of those whom don’t leave the house anyhow to work, doesn’t affect them regardless...

but truth be told it hardly affects anyone, flu alone does this as does most illness if your actually ill...

Yeah call me what you like, you really think I care?

I’m allowed a opinion just like @ChopleyIOM just like @vorcirion and the rest, yet no matter how much they slate the ones whom have a different opinion they are fine...

Yet you have a different view like @dealer wins or myself (a million times over) we are the bad guys?..

no wonder this place is getting quieter, this isn’t a dig nor a gripe before I’m lambasted.

But it’s just becoming a echo chamber...

sorry for the Xmas eve negativity but it’s how I see it.

no disrespect to any at all whom have different views as this ‘pandemic’ has affected us all in varying ways.

I do wish us all a good Xmas and a better new year however, corona cooking to follow within the hour also as a special treat to the members here.

im like a gift that keeps giving ;-)

The difference between you and dealer is that you post your opinion and say why you think that. No one has a problem with that as everyone has different opinions.
He just posts absolute shite, then refuses to ever back up what he says. He said not long ago the peak was before lockdown started, then he posts a graph showing deaths spiked massively a month after it started. How could it peak more than a month before the highest death rate?
The Daily Fail article he posted just now, took me around 30 seconds to see what the same 'expert' had said at the start of it all, which is the complete opposite of what that article says.
Has constantly said we should have done what Sweden have. Never answers when people point out how poorly they have done.
Posted a video to a house party being broken up and claimed it was a BLM protest. I could go through the thread and find dozens more examples like them.

FWIW, I know 3 people who have died, not very well, but I've met all three. All three were fit and healthy and under 50.
My best friend and her BF had it a couple of months back. Neither could get out of bed for a week. Both fit and well. He went back to work for a week and had to go back on the sick as he struggles to get his breath now. Before this started he was at the gym twice a day and has weights and stuff at home he used to use. He can't lift them now at all.

It might not affect many people under 80, who are fit and well, but it certainly does affect some.

My sister bought a dinner from this place. I'm doing a xmas reheat of everything but the ham.
Never had Yorkshire pudding though.

I made a dish for my buddy who is still at work so he can have it tomorrow.
