Corona virus - Covid 19 discussion

228 pages in and it's become Philosophy Rona Corner

Yeah, seems like the walls are getting closer.

But just wanted to point out, that as an optimist, I do hope next February things are better and CM meet will take place. Besides Knotfest Japan is a couple weeks before that and I refuse to miss that one.

That's a live event with great music Paul. You should try it sometimes. Brings a smile to your face as well.

So you're definitely attending the next MM

You know what i would probably enjoy it.

Feel free to pay for the trip for this poor Scotsman and i will join you :D

Sad but i have never really been to any concerts. Well 2 about 30 years ago not that i particularly wanted to go. But was just a day out to get stoned then pissed:laugh:.

And those 2 were Prince and Australian Doors.

Oh man, you've missed out on a lot of fun. Nothing beats live music. Well, getting stoned and or pissed isn't that bad either. :p Now combine those two fun activities and world's your oyster

Just to add, seeing Prince live is good and grants Paul 50 Respect Points

Is it. Can't mind much. Just mind being up all night stoned out my head. Drinking then visiting that slum of a stadium(parkhead) and sitting getting more stoned before concert started. Actual concert was a bit of a blur:laugh:

You're more expert in this than you realize

That is a good concert. You're only supposed to remember bits

Yeah i have had a sad life.

Maybe i will make an effort to see a real concert before i die.

Believe it or not between you and me i would probably enjoy some of the ones you post. Just the atmosphere would be a buzz.

But that's the one and only compliment your music gets today:laugh:

You should. Never too old to have fun. Even bad or mediocre live music is good for you (just need to adjust the level of drinking to the quality of the music offering).

Or he was just misunderstood. Every story needs a scapegoat.
I was a Jehovah's Witness once, you can't drag me down to your level of depravity

I have the Shield of God protecting me. Or at least I did, I think he forsook me years ago

You and me both brother.

The bolded part on the earlier post was not done by me intentionally. I learned my lesson some time ago, when the capital 'G' went missing from my keyboard after an ill-advised attempt at humour. To this day, the reason for that remains a mystery. And quite frankly, it's scaring me a bit.

Call it a friendly QWERTY warning

Haha just googled similar!
but do you remember ‘pitfall’ from the super old atari?.. jumping over the snakes and the crocs.. most harrowing gameplay
Pitfall's an all-time classic. The lead character certainly didn't practice social distancing

Just had a blast of nostalgia there - still remember how a guy at school (Alan Hayes - if you're reading this, you're an arse), nicked mine, never gave it back and my dad went mental

Plus point - led to me playing, and completing, all the Dizzy series on the C64.

Ah the C64 - typing the cheats on the blue screen like you were some sort of master coder.

If your openly accusing me of being a racist then by all means tell the community how infact I’m this racist monster you are describing.
a difference of opinion, being straight in how I talk is not racism.
and it’s deplorable your actually accusing me of this.
I get banned for calling out a streamer... you many times call me a racist with absolutely zero founding and all is peachy.
not for a second id want you banned harry, I’m all for freedom of speech.
but let’s hear how exactly I’m racist as that’s a pretty bold accusation.
Furthermore I’ve not had one single issue concerning me being a racist.
So please let’s see this harry.
I don't have the time right now to go through 100s of posts but rest assured I will Ben after I ease my workload.

Here's though just one reminder of you telling us a teary story a week or two ago how you suddenly discovered that Muslims are in fact decent people just like anyone else. Really? I assume you are in your 30s and it took someone letting you jump a queue to find that out? It actually shows you were never interested to inform yourself.

And if you insist, I can pinpoint to plenty of posts where you expressed your deep hatred and in fact racism against 1.8 billion people on this planet.

This for starters Ben.

It’s a Chinese holiday. They are entitled to a break to.

I still don't have the time to go through 100s of pages but I will make it simple for you Ben.

Did you ever call the 2009 H1N1 flu the American flu, the American mess, the American cover-up, "It's an American holiday - they deserve are entitled to break too"? Let me guess, until now you never even thought about calling it anything American.

FYI, it infected an estimated 700 million to 1.4 billion people and killed some 250,000 people. And that with transmission happening by symptomatic people only.

A simple YES or NO answer will suffice. No explanations needed.

Further, I sent you these links on 15th April 2020 as to why exactly it has been decided between all 194 or thereabouts members of the WHO (of which the UK is one) not to call a virus or a disease after the country of origin. You either did not bother to read the documents or decided to simply ignore them as you kept calling COVID-19 the same names.

Third and BTW, my wife is of Chinese decent and white people like you who insist that "certain values and cultures are better than others" don't have a clue whatsoever who is Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese or Korean, nor the suffering people like you cause to all Asians around the world simply because people like you have never been at the receiving end of racists comments/attacks but feel SO F*CKING entitled to call it the China Virus.

The only conclusion remaining is that you are simply racist.

I’d like harry to tell the community how I’m a racist. He also called my best friend a ‘token’ as he’s black.
I’m sorry this isn’t acceptable. I’ll share the pm should you need it.
Iam not a fucking racist.
And no I don’t want anyone banned. I just don’t take kindly to being accused of racism and the powers that be turning a blind eye to it Dino.

That is a plain lie, Ben. And you know it. I can copy the text of my message into this thread if you want.

EDITED to correct typo and quote.

Sorry Harry but I think you're bang out of order here. Best laugh is, your comment 'and white people like you', could come across as seriously racist in itself. 'people like you cause to all Asians around the world simply because people like you have never been at the receiving end of racists comments/attacks' How the hell do you know what he or any other white person has been through? There is plenty of racism throughout the world directed towards white people, from other white people and non white. China aren't exactly a country with no racism are they?

The 2 sources you quote, well the WHO haven't exactly covered themselves in glory, but they state

DO - talk about “people who have COVID-19”, “people who are being treated for COVID-19”, “people who are recovering from COVID-19” or “people who died after contracting COVID19” Don’t - refer to people with the disease as “COVID-19 cases” or “victims”

Every single news item in the UK today, including statements from the government mention cases and victims, so no one is taking a blind bit of notice of that.

When you have world leaders using the term 'Chinese Virus' & 'Wuhan Virus', then people are going to copy, as rightly or wrongly, they will believe it is a correct term. Can you link us to your tweets to Trump calling him a racist? Or is it just Ben you decided to have a go at?

You should probably read North Korea thread and whatever thread was before that. We've bashed Trump from day 1 and before he was elected too. He got elected by attacking muslims and immigrants etc. Trump has a long history of racism and white people seemed to have liked that. Like he was going to defend our culture etc.

Similar things have happened in many european countries...using the same talking points (during the Brexit debate too). So yeah racism is really a white thing. It does happen elsewhere too but the vast majority of racism is caused by white people.

It doesn't help when Ben is so vocal supporter of Trump and whenever there's some kind of terrorist attack...he's very quick to jump on it and say something like..."religion of peace does it again". Though he's absolutely not the only one who does that...many other people do it too here. When finding out that the attacker was actually a white guy, then that thread suddenly becomes completely silent.

I don't know what's your point in this. Just sounds ridiculous...I guess you could use that as a definition of hypocrisy.

Sorry Colin, your answer is pathetic and laughable at best. You are trying to defend the only race that had the audacity to call itself "supreme" with some bogus "plenty of racism against white people". Please check your country's history to see how much racism was directed at "white people" and then compare that with all the other races. Maybe read about the UK's role in the Opioid Wars for starters.

I studied my country's history very carefully to make me fully aware of that. And remember maybe that I am a "white people" too.

Selectively quoting a single part from the WHO guide is rather smart.

You can very well check the North Korea thread to find my posts about Mr T and my opinion of him. Do you truly think he reads answers to his tweets? Especially when they are negative? Get a grip, Colin.

The reason why Ben is because it wasn't just me pointing out that his remarks are inappropriate/offensive and even after being made aware he still continues. Now, normally people will change/adapt their wording/approach etc when they are part of a public community that comprises all types of people in order to avoid coming across as offensive/racist. Ben instead doubled and tripled down. That to me indicates that he is wearing his racist badge with pride. I might be wrong but that is how I interpret his behaviour. It might be limited towards Asian/Chinese and Muslim people, I don't know but that does not make it any better.

I'm done with this as I have said my piece. If you think it is fine to stigmatize over 2 billion fellow people who share this planet than that is your choice, I will never accept it.

Be nice to eachother folks. Who knows what is going on behind closed doors whilst COVID19 is impacting on probably all of our daily lives and making some people irritable.

Are we not here to support eachother as a community not fight tut?

As to the thread, 14% of people, in China, who were originally diagnosed with the virus and given the all clear have tested positive again and no-one knows if these people could be 'silent carriers' and if there are many more out there and appears they are closing their borders again.

In my opinion, racist slurs and disagreements have always been around, regardless of the COVID-19 crisis.

And yes, it's very worrying that the virus raises its ugly head again in China without knowing why these people continue to be silent carriers and what the causes are. Let's hope scientists will soon find out and discover a vaccine.

Something I read the other day was along the lines of people who have recovered from COVID-19 only have generated about 30% of antibodies required to prevent re-infection, which could explain why they are silent carriers. Apologies but I can no longer find the exact reference.

However a quick google search has brought up many articles all relating to the antibodies conundrum, e.g.

But in the case of the new coronavirus, according to Zhan, doctors don’t think the antibodies patients develop are strong or long-lasting enough to keep them from contracting the disease again.

“Once you have the infection, it could remain dormant and with minimal symptoms, and then you can get an exacerbation if it finds its way into the lungs,” Philip Tierno, a professor at the NYU School of Medicine, told

Oh please, that is not what I said at all. I am not trying to defend a race at all, but saying this is a Chinese virus doesn't mean the person saying it is racist. It came from China, therefore it is a Chinese virus. I am English because I come from England. I had Spanish strawberries last week, I say Spanish because they came from Spain.

I haven't read the North Korea thread for ages, and if this is over-spill from that then it should be taken back there. I can't stand Trump myself, I think he's a fucking idiot who has no clue what he's doing or talking about most the time, but I still say, when people hear world leaders calling it 'the Chinese virus' then some will say the same, right or wrong.

I have seen plenty of racism in the country, much more so in the mid-late 80's than now though.

Back on track, see it was said yesterday social distancing will continue until the end of the year at least in the UK. I am certain they are releasing bits of info now and then to soften the blow, as I know a lot of people were thinking, once the lockdown was over, things would go back to normal, which was clearly not going to be the case. Strange world we are living in at the moment, not something I thought I would ever see in my lifetime :(

Re: antibodies

If the information about insufficient antibodies to prevent infection is true, this will effectively mean that talking about herd immunity without a vaccine is futile and any country choosing this path will pay a horrible price for that mistake.

#STAYHOME
#STAYMETAL

Seems apt in this situation.

Seemingly the body can only produce 30% of the needed anti bodies, therefore everyone is at risk again but not everyone will have the symptoms but'could be' carriers - no-one knows for sure as we are fighting an unknown phenomenon. Vaccine is probably the only way forward!

Ryan and Hugh are having another truce to promote the;

Seems to be mostly targeted towards US folks tho, but it looks pretty neat.

Hopefully it will go better than their first truce. ;)

Hugh's looking a bit scrawnier than usual?

Reckon i could take him: in a fight, not in the other way.

Though, in these dark days, who's to say.

Yeah, i was never really convinced he was all that great in the X-men movies either.
