Corona virus - Covid 19 discussion

They are asking medical staff to resuse single use PPE supplies now, really time they got their act together,
they had 3 months to organise the manufacture of the items the NHS so desperately needs, what the hell
were they doing during that time. The UK has more than enough companies capable and willing to make the items. Its not as though the items are super high tech, the gowns are probably the hardest to make, masks
and gloves can be churned out by the millions.I did hear , dont know whether on here or somewhere else
that they would only deal with the makers of well known brands.
Pisses me off when you hear that staff are having to buy their own gear,if they can buy it why cant the
government get it from the same sources?
Come on Boris get well soon,I know you can sort it out, we badly need leadership.

cheers for the nice thoughts

obv im not well...though well hammered here at home lol

That makes me think back of a Youtube vid I saw from a critical German doctor, I forgot his name  , who basically said: why do we think it only started end of 2019? It could've easily been around last winter but nobody added the new virus to the database until it hit hard in Wuhan.

Might it have mutated after it first emerged to spread easier and is that why we are currently having a pandemic?

Oh yes, I am sure it has been around earlier than Dec 2019 just that this particular mutation is what made it capable for the zoonotic jump to humans and so deadly for some.

E.g. the MERS virus from 2012 was traced back and they estimated the range for its first appearance from 2007-2011.

Brings me back to the one conspiracy theory. In Sep 2019, the US closed a military lab for not complying with safety procedures. Shortly after you had all those vaping incidents, and a few weeks later US soldiers travelled to some military games in Wuhan. Sounds strange?? :D

Also just caught up with this, my deepest condolences Dion

Dino, my good man.....

I am very saddened to read the news of the loss of your father.
My sincerest and most heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family at this extremely difficult time.

Fingers crossed that your brother can somehow pull through and make a full and quick recovery.

Take care buddy.

Although it's is (not yet) peer reviewed, it does offer some hope.

"The population prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in Santa Clara County implies that the infection is much more widespread than indicated by the number of confirmed cases."

This would mean the virus is not as deadly as thought. Still, no vaccine and unclear if antibodies to covid-19 immunise you or not.

Glad we agree valuable time was lost in February. Those 6 days probably would not have made a difference because our approach was so lax.

My point however stands that the Taiwanese input was ignored and that shouldn't happen in an organisation that is called the WORLD Health Organisation. Health is more important than politics even tho some seem to disagree.

Sorry, coming back to your post because Mr T escalated his attacks/smear campaign against the WHO.

If you read this part of an article I just came across, you will see that the US CDC officials were in the midst of the WHO response from the very start. It becomes clear that Mr T was fully informed at all times and his latest campaign against the WHO is only to feed his base some "red meat" and proof that he is desperately searching for a scapegoat to deflect from his own mistakes.

As he said: "I take no responsibility!" - probably the first time he didn't lie.

As we enter the next 3 weeks of lockdown here is a summary of the advice:

1. You MUST NOT leave the house for any reason, but if you have a reason, you can leave the house

2. Masks are useless at protecting you against the virus, but you may have to wear one because it can save lives, but they may not work, but they may be mandatory, but maybe not

3. Shops are closed, except those shops that are open

4. You must not go to work but you can get another job and go to work

5. You should not go to the Drs or to the hospital unless you have to go there, unless you are too poorly to go there

6. This virus can kill people, but don’t be scared of it. It can only kill those people who are vulnerable or those people who are not vulnerable people. It’s possible to contain and control it, sometimes, except that sometimes it actually leads to a global disaster

7. Gloves won't help, but they can still help so wear them sometimes or not

8. STAY HOME, but it's important to go out

9. There is no shortage of groceries in the supermarkets, but there are many things missing. Sometimes you won’t need loo rolls but you should buy some just in case you need some

10. The virus has no effect on children except those children it affects

11. Animals are not affected, but there is still a cat that tested positive in Belgium in February when no one had been tested, plus a few tigers here and there…

12. Stay 2 metres away from tigers (see point 11)

13. You will have many symptoms if your get the virus, but you can also get symptoms without getting the virus, get the virus without having any symptoms or be contagious without having symptoms, or be non contagious with symptoms...

14. To help protect yourself you should eat well and exercise, but eat whatever you have on hand as it's better not to go out shopping

15. It's important to get fresh air but don't go to parks but go for a walk. But don’t sit down, except if you are old, but not for too long or if you are pregnant or if you’re not old or pregnant but need to sit down. If you do sit down don’t eat your picnic

16. Don’t visit old people but you have to take care of the old people and bring them food and medication

17. If you are sick, you can go out when you are better but anyone else in your household can’t go out when you are better unless they need to go out

18. You can get restaurant food delivered to the house. These deliveries are safe. But groceries you bring back to your house have to be decontaminated outside for 3 hours including Pizza...

19. You can't see your older mother or grandmother, but they can take a taxi and meet an older taxi driver

20. You are safe if you maintain the safe social distance when out but you can’t go out with friends or strangers at the safe social distance

21. The virus remains active on different surfaces for two hours ... or four hours... six hours... I mean days, not hours... But it needs a damp environment. Or a cold environment that is warm and dry... in the air, as long as the air is not plastic

22. Schools are closed so you need to home educate your children, unless you can send them to school because you’re not at home. If you are at home you can home educate your children using various portals and virtual class rooms, unless you have poor internet, or more than one child and only one computer, or you are working from home. Baking cakes can be considered maths, science or art. If you are home educating you can include household chores to be education. If you are home educating you can start drinking at 10am

23. If you are not home educating children you can also start drinking at 10am

24. The number of corona related deaths will be announced daily but we don't know how many people are infected as they are only testing those who are almost dead to find out if that's what they will die of… the people who die of corona who aren’t counted won’t be counted

25. You should stay in locked down until the virus stops infecting people but it will only stop infecting people if we all get infected so it’s important we get infected and some don’t get infected

26. You can join your neighbours for a street party and turn your music up for an outside disco and your neighbours won’t call the police. People in another street are allowed to call the police about your music.

27. No business will go under due to Coronavirus except those businesses that will have already gone under and those who go under once the fog has lifted

Simple...?

Not forgetting the classic 'Practice Social Distancing but not really, so long as you're roughly 6ft apart, but not really'

To go with my all-time favourite of this debacle. No more than two people when out & about, and having lots of groups of 2 in a crowd setting gives one auto- herd immunity. So I'm told :eek2:

Haven't have shower since COVID came that not getting virus from water, started to realize that it somehow helps to keep social distances more and more everyday, can recommend to all

This doesn’t need a explanation.
Hope your all well guys, just opening a beer.
Took a pizza and dirty fries out the freezer for a late night snack just incase.
And no, didn’t eat all that.
About 70% success rate, other 30% is attributed to sox.
We both have the meat sweats!

I had a typewriter(and that was a luxury), pen/pencil and paper in school. Why do kids need laptops today? Saying that I think that's great that they are giving kids the tools to continue education but I shake my head at some things these days.

A typewriter indeed if the school bullies had seen me anywhere near a typewriter they would have kicked my Shite in and flushed my head down the bog whilst shoving lite bog roll down the back of my trousers.lol

I agree. But it’s how education and the curriculum in England are right now.
As long as I play my part as a father and provide her the tools needed as required and I home school her in life and via so called curriculum then All is good.
Don’t agree with the biased left leaning educators and system we have, but at the moment it’s the best we have.

And theres the reason why we in the UK can expect another extension. Must say though, the photos on that page have all been taken from certain angles to give the impression everyone is an inch from each other, the one from above shows that most people are actually a couple of meters away from each other (obviously some exceptions)

It’s the way the world works nowadays. Everything revolves around being computer literate. I don’t particularly like it but that’s because I am old school. The reality is if you want to progress in life it’s a necessity.

Ahh we are quite alike snorky. :) I am old school/fasioned as well. I thought the folklore was the school's were super strict over there? Like you got the cane and everything, lol.

The Florida beaches aren't packed. Busy but hardly packed.

Look at the hours, closed during peak times:

Beaches in the area, which had been closed since 20 March, will be open from 6am to 11am every morning and from 5pm to 8pm in the evening, but will be closed all other times.

Obviously not bothered whether they catch it or are all ready carrying at passing on to others are they?

Unless the whole world has the same plan this will not go away. Questionable if it will anyway but all we can do as supposedly the most educated form of life is ask ourselves are we doing everything possible to hopefully eradicate it and the answer is obviously no.

I could be wrong it’s only my opinion but I think a fortnight from now we will be looking at 10 million worldwide cases and a lot of those will not be resolved.

Where are we going to go from there?

After my heathen and frankly sloth like meal earlier I’m ashamed to post this visual treat..
Chicken and pepper pizza.. dirty fries with Mountains of cheese and Jalapeño sauce, peppers also.
And a glass of real coke and Lemon with ice.
Also added bbq sauce to the pizza.
Never mind the old pandemic, this meal may well see me off!.,
Edit: forgot to mention the salad green stuff, I’m a massive salad racist, call the cops.

Economy vs Health.

That appears to be the dichotomy facing many Americans at the moment, as evinced by the protests that are currently taking place in New Hampshire, Maryland, Virginia and New Jersey.

Many of these people were simply unprepared for a catastrophe of this magnitude, living day by day without the ability or even the means to save "for a rainy day".

So for "Health", you can substitute survival. And that is an observation, NOT a criticism.

There are probably some who believe the lockdown/social distancing measures in place are overkill, but I actually believe the majority are quite simply desperate as America can be a very harsh place without the necessary backup to survive until the pandemic is declared over. Or at least until many of the restrictions are lifted, and back-to-work is allowed.

Even those stimulus checks come with a proverbial sting in the tail for those who have been out of work for weeks, and consequently have become overdrawn at the bank, as when the check did arrive, the banks simply used it to clear the overdraft.

Leaving these desperate people even more desperate.

And if this situation is replicated in even more States, what will be the final outcome?

Will 'herd immunity' triumph?

Or will COVID-19 continue to spread unchecked.

I presume your answering @slotplayer. Looks like social distancing to me on the beech.

Don't wanna start an online fight with you, but when this shite is over.

Would like to teach you how to cook.

What you do is warming up.

I live in a wonderful village and we get fresh meat delivered every 3 days, because of the situation we are in, That's to my door step.

Would normally take the dog for a walk and pick up dinner/meat for a couple of days.

Ben, lets start a new thread just for cooking, Something to pass the time

All the best,

All the best,
there's an entire social group dedicated to food
Foodies Forever

you can even create a Ben's Cookng Corner or some such

I have a 12 litre slow cooker, Local Chinese, charge £6.80 for 4 ribs.

I can get 32 ribs in my slow cooker, cost Just under £20

Slow Cookers are amazing.....just thought i would mention that, as they are.

In the foodies group i have placed a recipe for red hot beef (not red hot actually) one of my favourite recipes. Try it, your slow cooker deserves it.

Edit: Your wonderful village - somewhere near Dunmow?

2nd Edit: Stock? Fantastic place.

So if that’s acceptable now why did they close it in the first place? The 2 metres rule frankly makes me smile. Where has this been tested long term and found to absolutely proven.

If you knew someone that had it would you be prepared to risk being 2 metres away from them and feel 100% safe? I know I wouldn’t.
