Corona virus - Covid 19 discussion

The French version of the FDA has released a statement on hydroxychloroquine and an antiviral drug for its very serious side effects.
People infected with COVID-19 who died might've actually died because of the side effects of the drugs rather than the virus itself, it's still under investigation.

Well he can't log on, so I guess he's in CM limbo

Or in CM Purgatory. I wonder what that would look like?

If you're referring to the message being relayed on (anti-)social media about it being airborne, the WHO has already factchecked that 2 days ago.

Not sure about the mutation, from what I read earlier today it isn't a fast mutating virus. Do you have any links? I don't feel like going through pages of Google results.

No its from today.

I loved Mr. Dressup and Casey & Finnegan! So much so, that these two are named after them. Can you guess which one is Casey?

They are loving the pandemic-stay-at-home directive with everybody home all the time. Frankly, I think they're turning into attention whores. But that's just me.

Let's be cautious about the airborne thing.

"IMPORTANT context about this information: Our findings DO NOT confirm that this virus spreads in an airborne fashion. The identification of genetic material from the virus that causes COVID-19 in air samples found in this study provides limited evidence that some potential for airborne transmission exists. More study is underway to determine if live culturable virus was captured in this study and additional evidence is needed to determine the risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission via the airborne route. PLEASE EMPHASIZE THIS in all stories generated from this release."

Scientists from the Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University and the Wuhan Institute of Virology of the Chinese Academy of Science recently discovered virus genetic material in stool samples and rectal swabs from some patients, Chinese state media reported in February."

Yeah it's the potential that's a concern. Not saying it is airborne currently of course!

But then again according to Wikipedia, common cold and influenza can be airborne... Is it that much of a game changer?

Air polution and badly ventilated rooms might help with virus particles being airborne, if one is ill it's important to ventilate the rooms they're in.

Two channels you can waste some time on while being isolated.
Old timey recipes and old timey technology. :D
Turn on subtitles for the primitive technology videos.
He does not speak in his videos, but there is information about what he is doing in the subtitles.

my pc crashed
the coronavirus is still not in my area
we are currently in lockdown, no one is allowed to go outside after 9 pm
im guessing Qc? Cuz everywhere else we're still free to come and go

I won't lie, I haven't physically left the house in 2 weeks. How's that for civic responsibility.

Not been gym either due to a 'lockdown'. Can't even leave my signature window-lick to mark my disapproval. Also hindered by the aforementioned not leaving the house.

Sadly got spanked by DOA tonight to the tune of £80, which hasn't helped matters. Truth be told, I'm not even sure if I've worn these pants 3 or 4 days now. It matters not.

why must I be a teen-ager in love doo doo doo.webp

He looks rather pained to put it mildly, poor bastard :eek2:

It's the 'waves' of it I'd dread most, apart from the crippling symptoms. Gives the body a right beating

Yeah...I start to feel weak and lazy without physical exercises and yesterday even had a thought to start lifting a simple stone which is in my garden. :eek2:

But luckily realized that Sainsbury's is open and they have Argos in there which sales dumbbells. Gonna go now and jump in the queue with the hope to get in. :D

He keeps adding things, so its always exciting to see what the latest addition is.
Latest machine was one of these.

Its pretty neat.

We didn't have a mascot either. But I did go to a school which name was Pallivaha (in English: Ballwax).

So using the name of the school instead of a (missing) mascot, my name would be Congee Ballwax :eek2:

Not sure if true but apparrently 96% of the dead are over 65. If thats true then government a disgrace for this lockdown.

I notice how everyone ignored colins link too how its aload of bollocks in italy too.

Ok so people over 65 don’t deserve to live ? I’m pretty sure that there’s deaths in every age group and that there’s a lot of under 50’s in ICU’s so I suppose then it’s ok to let the virus run riot and destroy the health service?

And its not only about the deaths, its about the health service not being able to cope, its about people young and old who wont be able to have operations, its about people in accidents not being able to be given hospital beds because they are all taken up.
Is it so hard to look at the big picture and see this is a bit more than a few deaths of old people?

Besides you already told us you ignore everything you are asked not to do and you are still working anyway . You care not one jot about the doctors and nurses and all the other people trying to save lives. So just go about your business and stop trolling on here.

Hey @Jono777 where have you been? we always miss each other on here, hope you been well :)

I forgot this is the corona virus thread :eek2:

Nothing to report.

I've been about on and off :)

Work is hectic on the evenings so pretty much knackered once I get in so not reading/posting much, just for now :)

I will not be responded to Borgie he/she is rude and worse than that downright ignorant to facts and no doubt sits at home preaching on social media whilst doing nothing themselves.

As to the other guy, yes old peoples lives matter, but most would have died anyway and most had pre existing conditions.

You can not tell me given the deaths, pre conditions and the ages that this lockdown is justified.

Facter in the job losses, the debts, tue mental health issues this has caused which way out weigh the damage the virus has done.

Former NHS pathologist has written an article, it's free of vitriol, ad hominem etc etc the usual traits of the same handful of posters on here, you can read the full article he wrote here, it's a well thought and concise article, you will be please to know you can comment on his article at the bottom, where you can accuse Dr Lee of wanting old people to die and you can tell him hes probably posting from his mums basement, with Elvis and Tupac the same non sensical ad hominem stuff you post on here.

I’m a recently-retired Professor of Pathology and NHS consultant pathologist, and have spent most of my adult life in healthcare and science – fields which, all too often, are characterised by doubt rather than certainty. There is room for different interpretations of the current data. If some of these other interpretations are correct, or at least nearer to the truth, then conclusions about the actions required will change correspondingly

The simplest way to judge whether we have an exceptionally lethal disease is to look at the death rates. Are more people dying than we would expect to die anyway in a given week or month? Statistically, we would expect about 51,000 to die in Britain this month. At the time of writing, 422 deaths are linked to Covid-19 — so 0.8 per cent of that expected total. On a global basis, we’d expect 14 million to die over the first three months of the year. The world’s 18,944 coronavirus deaths represent 0.14 per cent of that total. These figures might shoot up but they are, right now, lower than other infectious diseases that we live with (such as flu). Not figures that would, in and of themselves, cause drastic global reactions.

Initial reported figures from China and Italy suggested a death rate of 5 per cent to 15 per cent, similar to Spanish flu. Given that cases were increasing exponentially, this raised the prospect of death rates that no healthcare system in the world would be able to cope with. The need to avoid this scenario is the justification for measures being implemented: the Spanish flu is believed to have infected about one in four of the world’s population between 1918 and 1920, or roughly 500 million people with 50 million deaths. We developed pandemic emergency plans, ready to snap into action in case this happened again.

At the time of writing, the UK’s 422 deaths and 8,077 known cases give an apparent death rate of 5 per cent. This is often cited as a cause for concern, contrasted with the mortality rate of seasonal flu, which is estimated at about 0.1 per cent. But we ought to look very carefully at the data. Are these figures really comparable?

Most of the UK testing has been in hospitals, where there is a high concentration of patients susceptible to the effects of any infection. As anyone who has worked with sick people will know, any testing regime that is based only in hospitals will over-estimate the virulence of an infection. Also, we’re only dealing with those Covid-19 cases that have made people sick enough or worried enough to get tested. There will be many more unaware that they have the virus, with either no symptoms, or mild ones.
