But if it was not for normal flu vaccinations that elderly receive then the same statistics would apply to a bad flu outbreak.

Most really elderly people are frail or have underlying conditions. Sooner a vaccination for this virus is found the better.

There are reports of visitors to hospitals pinching equipment and supplies to the point that they are locking anything away that is not in immediate use

Think the hundreds of experts questioning the governments approach do have point, when you look
at the UK compared to almost all other countries we have actually done sod all to prevent the spread.
The decision to stop the sporting events was forced by the organisors, which must have been difficult
bearing in mind the financial costs involved.
I hear nothing about testing kits,the main advice cannot be carried out by the majority of the population
as hand gel is impossible to source in the high st (believe me I have tried),plenty on Amazon

There are no restrictions on shop opening hours or types of shops allowed to open, as far as I know
no travel restrictions either within this country or to abroad except those imposed by other countries
banning outsiders.
The critical care bed situation is dire, look at how many beds France and Germany have compared to us,
we are even having to resort to asking other countries if they have any spare ventilators they are not using.

Was at a small chapel funeral yesterday as everyone stayed home cuz they did not want to gather and spread germs....someone in the back coughed, we all turned around and gave them a dirty look.

Supermarket here seem to be fine. I have go-op, Tesco and Sainsbury around the corner and noone here seems to be hoarding.

Also a parent from a school around the corner is tested positive, so I’m sure the amount of cases here will rise soon.

I know I panic bought water a couple of week ago but I’ve seen the error in my ways and realised how bloody stupid I was! I’ve got an elderly dad who’s got dementia and extremely stressed out because he’s seeing he’s gonna be in lock down also we normally do an online shop
For him but that’s a no go as you said tesco no slots so we went onto Asda and the same no slots till next week Morrison’s ditto Sainsbury’s ditto also in shops there are no medicines like basics paracetamol ibuprofen no toilet roll at all it’s scary and I feel horrible

Not as stupid as it sounds, if all those who are not at risk are put together in a secure area to catch the virus, then released when they are no longer infectious,it would help boost herd immunity and would provide helpers
for the more vulnerable and man essential services.

I can honestly say I dont know anybody who has died from normal flu in my circle of family and friends yet this is killing the elderly at an alarming rate it's a selfish comment purely down to you feeling aggrieved by upset of a routine

Ok How old are you ??. I am 65, heart disease, diabetes and stress, rather more at risk
than you I think.For myself If I catch it and it turns nasty so be it, but I also have a wife who is 100% certain to die if she contracts it and its my responsibilitiy to do everything
that she doesnt so yes I am worried sick, not a bloody snowflake.

This is the problem I feel which is an additional but also totally unnecessary problem.

There will sadly be so many individuals, companies, operators etc etc in general who wrongly take advantage of this awful Covid situation and instead of helping where possible, taking what they can for their own benefits/gains.

So the UK's idea is herd mentality as has been mentioned.

Does anybody know if we are the only nation to do this? In a way its kind of hedging your bets for the benefit of the human race - if you consider the population as a whole somebody had to be the guniea pigs.

One way of tackling it has to be better than another. Selfishly i hope its our way. I hear rumours of second strains and that this could be a better solution.

One thing for sure is this is different. Never in my life have i experienced something like this. Having kids it worries me a little and i am not a natural worrier.

I also heard a whisper of some antibiotics which were recommended but the supply is too short so it was not considered. Anybody know of any natural tips for combating the virus or general immune system wellbeing? Vit A etc

Edit: Thinking on....my understanding is that its currently killing the elderly or people with underlying health issues. f there is, god forbid, a second strain that is much worse then the herd tactic may be the best option as already the immunity would have been built, hopefully.

You see, viruses mutate much faster than we humans. It was very clear when SARS happened, that there will be more coming, it was just not clear when and how. We had MERS in 2012, so about 9 years from SARS, no COVID-19 about 8 years later. Similar periods to make the successful transmission between animals and humans.

Coronaviruses are zoonotic viruses and there are virtually hundreds of strands. We simply will not know when the next will mutate sufficiently to make the jump from bats/other animals to humans.

The "funny" or maybe better said scary part is that each of three from the last two decades, SARS, MERS and COVID-19, is using a slightly different protein to lock onto human cells. And it took them only a few years to adapt.

Nature as its best and most cruel. Well, nature was never kind as the strongest and fittest are chosen to survive other species.

Worth noting that no matter how 'advanced' a country is, one wouldn't want to catch Corona in any sort of concentrated areas, because mortality rates will just spike.

Say like 5.8% in Wuhan compared to 0.7% elsewhere. Lombardy in Italy's also clearly afflicted and not where one would ever want to contract it either.

So if things get bad all at once in London I wouldn't much fancy my chances. Probably why Government's hoping we all contract it simultaneously and magically immunize ourselves to not be a burden
