Corona virus - Covid 19 discussion

How to contradict yourself in two paragraphs:

China has warned the ability of the deadly coronavirus to spread is getting stronger as the number infected globally rose to more than 2,000.

The authorities said little is known about the new virus and are unclear on the risks posed by it mutating.

People on another forum are speculating that China created this virus to control it's population, surely if they had done that they would have started it in Hong Kong.

It's the start of depopulation, the elites have started to thin out the herd. I be damn

The big danger is mutation, think that is what made Spanish flu so deadly. The number of infections is more important than the number of deaths from the current strain but a bad mutation could change everything.
The more infections that occur will increase the chances of the the little gits turning into monsters.

So people aren't concerned about developments in the Middle East and possible escalation & war, but a Mickey Mouse virus imported by Chinese peasant farmers that's going to affect precisely......no one

I think there should be some concern about both but no point getting too riled up about things we personally cannot control. As the virus has killed people, although the true numbers are not known we can't say it's affected no one but panicking wont help stop it.

I too have a severely weakened immune system but I'm not worrying about it simply no point. Nor am i worrying about war. It's not helpful to be a worry wart.

It's precautionary as with probably dozens of these strains across poorer parts of China annually, but of course trust our news outlets to hail it the end of civilization as we know it

Last I saw there were 50 deaths from it in China, out of a population of 1.3B. More people are likely to have succumbed to flu or Mahjong-related injuries in all honesty.

There's very little chance of aunt Ethel down the road contracting it, given that the virus is likely to be self-contained within small clusters of the Chinese community

The only problem with this virus is it is contagious before symptoms show which makes it difficult to contain and eradicate. How can you eradicate a disease which spreads before you are ill?

So do you not believe government agencies have taken precautions already to contain it?

Only as far as they can I have heard nothing so far from work even mentioning Coronavirus, there is nothing on the nhs website except a bizarre article dated 22 January telling people to keep using sunscreen.

There is nothing on Doncaster nhs site either:

Try to live your every day life. You cannot influence it in any way. In addition, think about why and how it all works: first a virus is created, then a vaccine against it. And when the climax begins, the vaccine appears in the arena. This is a terrible business based on human lives unfortunately.

Yes we should be very concerned about this virus.

It has just recently bridged the gap between being a solely animal orientated disease to one which can spread between humans. This is not good because the virus won't have mutated enough to find the right balance of mortality. A successful virus will not want to kill its host...

This appears extremely contagious and from what we know, 1 in 4 people will need medical intervention to survive this. Yes, 25% of cases. The NHS would fold with this figure.

The reaction from China tells us this is serious. Locking down cities, hurriedly building hospitals, leaked videos of people collapsing in the street. The official mortality figures are likely to be A LOT higher than they are telling us. When the Chinese president says it's a grave situation, you know things are bad.

Things could get very bad over the next few months.

The fatality numbers are extremely low 3% so at the moment it is not a big killer virus.

The problem is that the chinese government seem to be telling huge lies about the number of ill and dead. The videos getting leaked contradict what the government are saying. Also why build hospitals so quickly if there is no problem. I'm still not worrying but its not straightforward with a country used to manipulating its audience to keep secrets.

You are dead right about the NHS,they would have no chance of coping with mass infections,
So you have possible symptoms (no one has mentiond what these are yet), what do you do ?
book a doctors appointment , 7 days here if you are lucky or go to A and E and wait 4 hours.
while possibly infecting others.

There are varying strains of the virus, and it's spread before in different regions starting as far back as 2003 and as recently as 2012

Fatality rates vary between 10-35%, so it's not something someone would ideally like to contract, let's just say

Firstly there are no symptoms when you are infectious secondly it will be general flu symptoms but as it is only affecting people who have been in China so far if you haven't been there chances are if you get flu symptoms it will be normal flu.

If you have any type of flu symptoms you stay at home NEVER go to a&e or a GP surgery as it will spread the symptoms, talk to a gp over the phone or nhs111 and only go to a&e if you have other issues which could cause complications.
